Update: Day 40 (give or take a few days)

The tip of the nose still feels tingly yet for the most part, numb as Pinocchio's nose must have felt.
When scrunching my lips to either side of my face, the nose feels stiff and like it's detached from my facial skull.
All in all, I am a lot more at ease when looking in the mirror every morning, than I was the first 2 - 3 weeks after my surgery, during which I obsessively checked myself in the mirror every 5 minutes, expecting an instant change, like a lunatic.
So to all who just came out of surgery and are not satisfied with the initial results, TRUST ME, YOU HAVE TO BE PATIENT!
I'm still not 100% satisfied, but then I'm not even at my 2 month mark.
I won't fully accept my new nose until at least the 6th month mark, like is suggested.
The change is very gradual, it doesn't happen overnight, so just be patient with it.

P.S. I only have one regret, which is that I went to tan in the sun too soon. When I compare my pictures before and after sun exposure, I do notice that it got worse suddenly and it might have slowed down the healing process since then.
So I do recommend waiting at least 1 but preferably 2 months before going into the sun.

OH! I also want to comment on herbal substances such as arnica montana that supposedly accelerate the healing process.
They did absolutely nothing for me.
I used several brands of arnica montana ointments and pills, along with bromelain capsules, which did absolutely nothing for me.
You probably have to continue using them on a long-term basis for them to work, but my nose ironically started healing faster once I stopped.
So bottomline, these products may work for you, but they did nothing for me.
I personally just recommend eating healthy and avoid getting into any fist fights. :-)

Do you care to share any before pictures or is that the only one you want to show? I think that the nose looks fantastic! It doesn't even really look like you've had any work done.

Finally decided to cease the lazy attitude and create a profile here. :)
To healthnfitnessguy, thanks for the compliment.
Though it is still far from my desired result, I guess I can live with having a shrek-ish nose...FOR NOW!
The tip is my main concern.
I just passed my two month mark but seriously, my nose still feels detached from my face.
It's still pretty darn sensitive, I have some trouble putting on shirts with fitted collars.
So that at least let's me know there's still a lot of healing to do.
Now for those pictures you requested:
Before:

After (in different lighting, my camera's flash is busted):

Smile, Before and After (The After is on the left):

The 6 month mark pictures will really be really worth seeing, I can't wait for this tip to deflate already.
But in the meantime, I'll keep posting progress pictures.

Did you also have it narrowed down as well? The difference looks like night an day! I don't think that it looks all that shrek-y as all as you say. It looks great! when do you consult with the doctor?

In less than a month I will be 3 months post op.
He asked to see me around then, so I'll make an appointment around the end of Nov.
Thanks again, but no, besides not looking proportionate, the tip simply feels "not all there", which lets me know there's still healing to do and changes to see.
Yes, my nostril size was decreased, which actually wasn't part of the plan at all.
My surgeon simply recognized that the nostrils would look too wide compared to the size of my bridge, so he trimmed them down.
I'm thrilled that he did that, otherwise I would probably be bitching and moaning for a revision already.

With the outcome now, I suspect I should have been more careful those first few days.
The scars are pretty noticeable (but he said they would be and I expected that) but only if you look at my face from below.
The new spot where the nostril "flaps" were sown (outer edges are closer together), they don't seem to have accepted their new home too well, as you can tell the blood-flow isn't as good as it was before.
So if I smile too much now, I have to remember to sanitize the area and put antiseptic cream on it later on, as the pressure on the nostrils pulls on the parts that were stitched together and the scars can become more visible.

But it all sounds worse than it is, these are very minor problems, I hardly notice them.
I'm just mentioning it so people out there remember to really take it easy the first few days post op, and try not to watch any comedy movies or sad drama's for a while, until the external healing seems to have run it's course.
Then afterward the overall healing process is less of a chore for you and all you have to do is be patient with the internal healing (swelling), if you even need the latter.

*Discontinue reading if you've got a weak stomach*

Lastly, I still sometimes see some blood if I blow my nose.
No clue what's causing that but I heard it's not uncommon.

More pictures coming soon.

Hey all. I had open rhinoplasty last week and i have had the same concern with the tip of my nose. NO WAY do i want to see my friends just yet. The thought of them trying to be nice about it is dreadful. However, seem as we all have the same concern about the tips of our new noses, i think its even more reassuring that the swelling will eventually go down!!
Its heartbreaking to hear that so many of you are unhappy with how you look. But im optimistic that the results will improve. I havent heard of many people who have had open or closed rhinoplasty and been unhappy with the results once fully healed, thats just another bit of reassurance that things will get better.
Im just very frustrated that i have to wait atleast a few months before things will improve :[
I think anyone who is unhappy with their nose at present needs to just be as patient as possible. Surgeons have years of experience under their belts and when they would have seen the nose straight after surgery, they would have been happy with it, so its best to trust their judgement :)
Final results i've been told- like most of you- will take up to a year.
So, stay postive and after a month or two, slap on a bit of makeup and try to make yourself feel abit better. Just know theres so many other people going through the same thing you are an that things will get better with time :)

I had a septorhino on November 6th. I'm still quite swollen but it does look a lot better than when the cast came off.

This is my second revision. I originally had a rhinoplasty when I was 20, I hated the nose and decided to have a revision about
3 months later....BIG MISTAKE!!! If your doctor agrees to operate on you just a few months after your primary, then HE'S NO GOOD! You should at least wait 9 months to a year to have a revision. You can develop serious scar tissue and most likely, it won't come out they way you want it to. So I waited 14 years to have my second revision. This time I really did my research to find a good doctor. I believe I did. My doctor is very professional, kind, experienced and well known for rhino work. Anyways, I'm on day 9 and
the nose is quite swollen but I did notice a small dent on the right side of the nose, which is causing a shadow and making my nose
looked a bit crooked :S. I emailed my doctor to ask him about this and he said once the swelling subsides, the nose will balance find out. I guess I'll find out for sure in a few months if he's right.

I also have a bump between my eyeybrows one on each side of the nose, on the bone next to the bridge. My skin is quite thick
so it's not noticable. I asked my doctor about this as well and he said when the bone is shaved down, most people will develop
a bump. These usually go away in time. I've been taping my nose at night as well, he's suggested to avoid doing this just in case it
makes the dent worse.

My next app. is in December, I hope I don't have to discuss these issues when I see him again. I also have to learn to be more
patient, I know that the healing will take time. It does suck and wish there was a faster way around this but unfortunately there isn't.

Anyways, happy healing to all!

I just wanted to write because I recognize the panic that many of you are expressing that I went through during my first few weeks. I am at month 2 from a closed surgery to remove hump, narrow nose, shorten and slightly raise the tip... and looking back I can only see that I was completely insane and consumed with my nose during that time, and was sure I had made a huge mistake. I really thought I would kill myself when I got home and looked in the mirror - not prepared for the swelling of my nose (complete pig nose) or my entire face, not to mention two really black/pink/blue swollen eyes. My friend who had her surgery just a month before was fine right away from her surgery, and I met her for drinks at her day 6 and she looked great. she was happy right away, and went to her sisters wedding at the two week mark. That was what i expected for myself... and it could not have been further from my experience. I had a really hard time going back to work, and needed dermablend - I looked like a battered woman trying to cover-up my latest beating. I also did not get back my smile for quite some time and i think that made me more sad than my bulbus nose. I felt that because he was successful in making the top part more narrow, it made the bottom look really wide and horrible because of all of the swelling. Also, with the lip swelling/nose combo, it felt like I looked like I had a cold or was sick all the time. Well, now that 2 months have gone by, I can say I don't love it, but I'm starting to like it (esp. the profile). The swelling goes up and down still, so I hope that one day I don't have to worry about "a good nose day", but when I got my first good day around the one month mark it made the bad days more tollorable because I knew there was some hope. I have done enough reading on the internet to know that it takes 9month - 1year for the complete result and I have seen pictures where the nose had huge changes from month 9 to month 12, so give yourself time to heal!!!

I had my nose done on Sept 9th. I wanted the base and nostrils to be more narrow and make the tip smaller. After surgery my nose was soooo swollen. I was so scared. The Doctor said the swelling would go down, give it a few weeks. I kept looking in the mirror every 5 mins for a few weeks. I drove myself CRAZY! Before my surgery people I did get compliments on my looks but I always knew I had a big ethic wide nose and knew I would look 10 times better after a nose job. After my surgery no one gave me compliments, I felt like I made a mistake. Now the swelling is going down and I'm starting to get compliments again. Now its been 9 weeks and I do see an improvement in the tip. Please everyone you have to relax and be patient! The tip of the nose will take 9 months to 1 year to go down. Eat healthy, low-sodium foods and try not to obsess with the mirror. Try not to look in the mirror too much for 2 weeks. After 2 weeks you will see a difference. Its hard to notice anything when you keep looking.
Its kind of fun to know every month you will look better and better!

Hi- I had my 1st rhino 2 years ago. I had my surgery in May 2007 and I can honnestly say the swelling lasted at least 1 year.
The nose looked much better but I didn't think that it looked thin enough.

I had a revision 5 months ago (at no charge), I totally looked like a lion for the first 3 months but, amazingly, I looked so much better already. I used to get so mad when people said "you can't even notice the sweeling". WTF???!!!!! Do they seriously think that I look like this on a regular basis???? o.O
Anyway, it's the end of December, I am starting to like my nose a lot but I'll still need a few more months before the final results.
HEALING TAKES TIME, you should all relax and be PATIENT. Ashlee Simpson is like the rare exeption to the rule man, most of us mere mortals will look like professional boxers for at least 1 year.

Good luck!
PS: gentle use of saline spray helps my "morning swellling"
