BTW, the above post was in response to this guy:
Oh my gosh, thank goodness for this site!
You guys are just angels for reaching out and being so honest about all your experiences.
Like others here have said, and now I as well, it feels fantastic to know you're not alone.

I had my nose done 1 week ago (on Aug. 18th) and I got my bandage removed 2 days ago (Aug. 24th).
The doctor lied me down on the chair with his apprentice standing by as he removed the package and wiped off my nose.
I couldn't see myself while he was doing it, but they both kept going "it looks perfect" so I became extremely anxious.
Finally he asked me to go look in the mirror.
Holy...mother...of God!
I almost had a heart attack, I literally looked like one of the munchkin people from "the wizard of oz"!
It still now looks like an elf's nose!
The overall size did decrease which was nice, but my tip still looks swollen and bulbous.
I nervously told him it looks great and left his office with a quick good bye.
I have another appointment on Friday to remove the rest of the stitches he couldn't remove on Monday.

The problems with my nose before were a very wide bridge and a drooping tip that slanted down when I smiled.
Well now I don't even know what it does when I smile because I can't smile all the way.
I still have stitches on the inside of my upper lip, so they're preventing me from smiling all the way to where you can see my upper teeth.
When I smile I look mentally challenged (no offense to anybody here with mentally impaired loved ones).
Also besides the fact that the tip looks like a gumball, it's mostly numb and doesn't move if I make a facial expression.

Anyhow, after reading all these comments, I realize I'm being impatient and ignoring certain facts like that swelling lasts longer on the tip of the nose.
So I will give it more time, but school starts on Monday (Aug. 31st) so you can imagine my frustration that my first impression will be that I probably help Santa Clause make toys in his factory every Christmas.

I'll keep you guys posted on the progress, I'm just terrified of being one of those cases that didn't see any decrease of the "swelling" after 2 months.
Damn it, I didn't expect perfection, I'm sure none of the other ones here complaining did either, but we did all expect something we could at least "live with" right?
Right now, when entering a store, everybody just keeps staring at my nose like "this guy's nose is as fake as Pam Anderson's boobs".
It looks like the nose of a ceramic garden gnome.

Here's a before and an after:

If anybody here dare's to utter the phrase "It looks fine, stop whining, you can totally live with it", I will seriously hunt you down and kill you.
Anyhow, I'll keep posting progress pictures as time goes by.
Hopefully it will improve and I'll be a reminder to all future readers here that the key is to be patient and just give it time.

OMG!!  Thank you all for posting!!  I had my procedure done last friday (12-30-2011)...  I know its not even a wk out but I have been so upset about my know I don't know what to do.  My nostrils are unven, tip is very pointy and swollen.  I was joking with coworkers a few days before getting my nose done and I said "with my luck, I will get a pig's nose"..  Guest what it looks like!!!  It looks like a pig's nose.. I too was thinking this was the worst mistake of my life.   I am so scared right now with the way my nose looks  Im praying it will go down.  Yes I had a very large nose before but I would give anything to get it back.

Agh, I just had mine done on 1/23/12. I got the splint and stitches out yesterday .... I was unable to sleep last night because I was so upset and frustrated about my results.
Mines not bad, but the bump/bridge that I paid to be removed seems to still be there. I know there will be swelling, but can swelling feel hard like cartilage? Will this go down?
Does anyone have any good news for me? I'm glad we can all be there for each other, but I need to know there's a light at the end of this tunnel, not that there's lots of people lost in here with me ... :)

Hello, would like to say first that this site, more so, this page is really lifting my mood. I am now 7 days post op, when i had my splint removed i was in shock. Although you prepare yourself to expect swelling it's still so suprising. Its not like i was expecting for the splint to be taken off and my nose to be perfectly straight and set into my face but right now the tip is so big and the bridge is so wide-kind of like a lion. I had a lot of work done as i was born with cleft lip and palate, so it was essentially revision work on my nose. This page has seriously let me breath as i now realise that this 'lion look' is extremely common and it does subside.  Well, hopefully. I will keeping updating as long as this is still open. Wish me luck !

Hi, I am 2 months post op and still really swollen. I mean, I just can't believe how swollen it still is! I had an open rhinoplasty; there was a big hump on my nose from an auto accident, and I had the tip refined as well. I'm happy to read these posts because it seems that everywhere else on the internet all I read is that people looked great after a few weeks! I've been taking photos of myself each week, and I'm glad that I did this, because I can see that the swelling is improving by looking at the pictures. Otherwise I would look in the mirror each day, and it would seem that there isn't much progress. Even though my surgeon warned that swelling can last 7 months, I guess I didn't really believe him. The healing process is going really slow, in my mind. I did not think it would still look this way after 2 months! I'm still hopeful though, but it's been hard around coworkers and family. I know they are judging my nose now, and wondering how in the world could I pay $6000 for this result? Coworkers ask questions like "So....is it still swollen?" or "Wow, how long will the swelling last?". It's been embarrassing. No one is raving "Wow, you look great!", nope, not hearing any of that. I really like my profile, but my bridge seems very wide and it also seems crooked. My surgeon says there is more swelling on one side than the other, which I am praying is the case! I've been told to massage/put pressure on my nose several times a day and I'm doing this every chance I get. It still hurts when I touch it/apply pressure, so I'm assuming it is swelling, which is a good sign, so there is still healing going on and maybe my nose will look smaller? I'm trying to stay positive and not look at my nose too critically for now because shedding tears will not help anything.

-Greetings from Austin

hi there this is my very first post on any forum. i had a rhinoplasty in dec i asked to have my bridge narrowed along with nostrils and balbous tip reduced, as soon as i woke from surgery i knew i would live to regret it. my nose was upturned nostrils un even and it just looked short on my face, i cried every single night and still do. a month after surgery i saw my surgeon but he had no interest in what my views were he kept telling me its too soon and things will drop and if i am patient i will get the results i want. nearly four months down the line every time i look at myself especially first thing all i see are two very visible very piggish nostrils, my nose before never show cased my nostrils in fact quite the opposite. i'm having such a hard time dealing with this, and i seem to have lost the bubbly happy go lucky attitude i once possessed. from this experience i've learnt that patients have no safety or support or help and i think plastic surgeons should have to adhere to some some of body, patients are not informed enough of the pitfalls linked to plastic surgery and neither do they have any one to turn too when the worst happens. i think that it should be a fundamental part of post operative care to have support and the correct medical attention especially with unsatified customers. however saying that it seems to me that surgeons have a hit or miss attitude these days and its not fair that they ae not taking responsibility for those misses. if they perform a bad surgery they too should have some sort of consequence and have to pay just like the customer has too (in my case for a complete year until i can have a revision). we as customers don even have an angle to recieve a refund of any sort basically we pay grands for some one to botch a procedure you have been thinking about for years.
om not happy with this industry at all, yes there are success stories but i'm sure each success has its equal in failure and this is such a shame because i know some one out there like me is feeling suicidal over a botched procedure performed by medical proffessional who surely we should be able to trust.
i think each surgeon should have a list of their failures and successes and it should be available for public to see.

OMG! I'm sorry, but you made me laugh a lot. I'm a post rhino patient and I know how hard it is, but please be patient. It does change a lot. Also, talk to your doctor about your concerns so he can ease you fears.

My doctor dismissed my unhappiness by making it seem that I was too obsessed with looking at myself. I'm still waiting for the finished nose after almost 10 months. I am giving it the year before insist upon a revision as it's not looking like the any of the computerized images he had made or what we discussed. I will wait it out, but already he's ignored some of my emails about what my options would be if after a year, it;s not whats expected. I have a feeling it's going to be a problem.

From what I keep reading and have experienced the nose will change a lot so try to be patient and best wishes.

Omg!!!!! This is exactly how I'm feeling right now as well! I just had a rhinoplasty a week ago and my nose is bigger now than before the surgery. How long before yours looked somewhat normal again? I have to be back to work in only 4 days. I'm nervous bc I feel like I look like a monster!

I stumbled across this thread I thought i should share my experience as well. I had my rhinoplasty 11 days ago i had a huge bump on the dorsum and a droopy tip plus a deviated septum. My surgeon explained to me that he would remove the bump and shorten my nose and elevate the tip without making it upturned.
When i woke up from surgery I swear, almost cried. I looked like a piggggg. EXTREMELY upturned i could see my brain through my nostrils.
i was depressed for days and i called my surgeon to ask him and he casually assured me that its the tape holding my tip from beneath thats giving this appearance and partly the swelling.
i was still so scared and i couldnt believe him. But trust me. IT DOES GO DOWN!. After 7 days he removed the tape under my tip bcz it was stained with blood (yuck) and the stitches but left the cast on for a few more days. I left the clinic still looking piggy although way less upturned. And its been dropping each day. Now it doesn't look piggy at all and its not my imagination trying to console myself; ive been taking pictures to keep track. If your tip is still rigid then your still swollen so relax.
If you trust your surgeon and seen his work before, then keep your trusting him because it will get better. I understand it can take more time with others depending on the extent of your surgery. If your conscious about the way you look just tape your nose until the swelling and the tip becomes acceptable.

I know its hard but you have to be patient and let the healing take its time.
