hey everyone!
i'm actually the person who posted on 4/12 and i wanted to give an update on my progress to those people who are frantically looking up anything rhinoplasty related after their surgeries (i know i definitely was in my state of panic!). i'm about 5 weeks post surgery and feeling A LOT better about everything. in my last post, i was pretty depressed, but i'm happy to report that my spirits have definitely picked up. everytime i woke up, i would run to the mirror and stare at my nose to see if there were any changes. i've pretty much stopped that because there really is no use being so obsessed since the changes can be maddeningly gradual. it was strange because my nose was noticeably more swollen 3 weeks post surgery than 3 days after the splint came off. i was worried that i had somehow messed one of the internal sutures up by inhaling too hard to clear my nose up!
for the person who two posts up who talks about crusts- yes, my doctor completely forbid me from probing inside my nostrils. i was in so much discomfort from not being able to breathe properly i begged my surgeon to let me use saline nasal spray, which i had read about in a bunch of other blogs. he consented, and honestly, i don't know what i would have done without it because it really helped loosen the crusts. what also bothered me a lot were the strings hanging out in my nostrils from the dissolvable sutures. my surgeon told me they would fall out on their own after about 2-3 weeks after i got my splint off. they actually came out (with help from me and a q-tip) the day before my 1 month follow up visit.
my nose is still a little too round on the tip for my liking, but my surgeon said that it's the swelling and it should keep going gradually down. the hardest part is being patient and we all know that from our own experiences. good luck to you all!

oh and to the guy who posted on 4/27 and had the three operations...i totally feel for you man! i've only had my one procedure and am hoping to never go through this again, so i literally cringed when i read your story. i've read that revisions grow more and more challenging each time you have one and i hope that your nose swelling goes down soon! the majority of rhinoplasties that my surgeon does is revisions so if you're in the beverly hills area and need a referral, i'd be glad to give you my surgeon's name.
i'm curious. it's been a week now since you posted (i know a week isn't that long, but speaking from personal experience things can change in a matter of days)- any update as to how you feel about your nose

doctors would say that the swollen would go down in a week and that's what usually happens. but we are all different so it really depends. mine went down in about 15 days, not bad for an overall rhinoplasty.

hey can you guys give updates on how your noses are doing now, updates on the swelling and so forth

Hi everybody, just wanted to let you know about my open rhinoplasty that i had done 2 weeks ago today.
I'm asian and went to a plastic surgeon in beverly hills that specialized in asian plastic surgery(especially rhinoplasty and eyes) Dr. Charles S Lee. He is very well known and been on shows such as Tyra, Montell, and CNN. Anyways, when i got the cast off 5 days post op my nose from the side profile was just ok, but front on it was exactly like a pig. It was all pushed up, with nostrils flaring and it looked as though i had the biggest bridge ever put in. I was SO mortified and depressed and couldn't stop looking at it for days. But after looking up all the other posts from fellow rhinoplasty patients and hearing of similiar stories, my nerves were calmed a little. So as the days went on, my tip has slowly come down to an almost natural looking state and the bridge swelling has gone down significantly. ALL in week!! I'm starting to like my new nose already! Now i can't wait for the stiff upper lip to go away so that i can actually smile normally. It also hurts to laugh because my nose is stretched out and it feels like its going to rip off my face.
So for all of you worrying, don't worry, please please please be patient, it will only get better with time.

I underwent rhinoplasty one month ago...it was an open rhinoplasty in which my nasal bones were fractured to correct the bridge , also they worked on my bulbous tip. after 2 weeks of my surgry i got really worried as my nose looked bit twisted...but that was just because of more swelling on one side.. now after four weeks it looks straight and a bit narrower than before. i am very happy with the upper portion of my nose (the bridge).... but there is still lot of swelling on the tip...rather it looks more like pre operative tip...i hope it goes down in anther few months...
i got my surgry done by Dr. Ajaya Kashayap

Hi,
My daughter had rhinoplasty in April. She had a little bump removed on the bridge and had the tip reduced. When the cast came off a week later her nose looked too small, the bridge was squashed in and the tip was really swollen and turned up. The nurse said this was to be expected and I know that my daughter was very disappointed. The nurse said take a picture every week to see the changes, they will be subtle, but the swelling will go down and could take 12 weeks, although the final result will take about a year. She is now 8 weeks post surgery and I have taken photos and can see a difference. I didnt realise that she would look so different, but am getting used to the new nose, it looks quite cute. Be patient, it will get better. I would love to know how you get on and wish you luck.

I had my cast taken off today and when I looked in the mirror I was disappointed. My tip was soo fat and I still had a hump in my nose! I had my deviated septum fixed, got my hump removed (or not??), and my tip narrowed...But right now I don't like the way it looks at all. :( However I'm only just getting to the 1 week post-op mark, I REALLY hope and pray this small hump on my nose is only swelling. I studied my nose in the mirror and cried so much earlier until I found this website, I'm relieved I'm not alone.
Here's a before and after pic:
Hopefully my profile improves with time. :/

It has been 13 days since my rhinoplasty. When the cast came off on day 8 I thought I was going to die it was so swollen. Much better on days 10-13 though but my bump seems to be coming back not sure if that is just still swollen or if it is coming back. Anyone know? Tip is swollen but bridge looks better than day 8.

If anyone can help that would be great. My nose looks darker than the rest of my face. Is it because I was in the sun on day 8 when the cast came off?

I just had the surgery a week ago today, and very much like the Original Poster (OP), I went in to get the hump on my bridge scraped and to get my nose slightly turned up, as well as fixing a deviated septum. My surgery was an open one.
Today, I got my cast off, and I was immediately disappointed with the product. I felt terrible. My nose was huge and "bulbous" as all appear to be describing it, the bridge is much much wider than it was before, and the tip appears to be the same. The nose looks bigger than it did before. My doctor assured me that I am still very much swelling.
But does anybody have any tips to release the swelling? I believe now, after this forum (which is a godsend, trust me), that I will look better with time, but are there any particular tricks?
Remember, I am just as miserable as any of you. But a revision surgery appears to be a bit pricey to consider so soon.
