I had my gall bladder removed 2 1/2 years ago. About 6 months ago, I developed a terrible pain in my upper right side, behind my rib cage, which radiates around to my back. Digestive problems are also an issue - I am always full and cannot eat without getting heartburn. A CAT scan showed that I have scar tissue that has attached to my intestine since the gall bladder surgery. The doctor says that this is the cause of the digestive problems. He says that removal of this tissue may result in more scar tissue and I would have the same problem. I am 29 years old and need to know what can be done to help. The constant pain prevents me from doing alot of things that I did before. Please help!!! I would like to be able to go about the day without pain AND be able to eat without feeling full or sick all of the time. I am interested to know what you have to say.
I also had my gall bladder removed and now have pain under my right rib cage and around to my back and I also have lower right lower quadrant pain . I had a colonoscopy today and found nothing. I'm not sure what to do next. The pain seems to come and go but is getting more frequent . I also get very bloated after I eat. I didn't realize other people are going through the same thing.
After mis diagnosis and 2 stays in the hospital a doctor there felt my ovary ('only have one!) could be causing constant pain in my stomach. When they went to have a look they found it bound down with scar tissue and gyne decided after hormone shots that seemed to reduce pain to remove. less than a week after a very difficult surgery pain was back. I was also told i'd scar tissue throughout my abdomen as high as my rib cage and low as my bowels and the only way to stop it was to open me from sternum to stomach and re sect. This really wasn't an option and i went to a pain specialist. He put me on lyrica and after playing around with the dosage for a wile we seem to have it right. I realise there are side effects that many people suffer, fortunately I havent really (unless insomnia is one, but that could also be down to now early menapause - i'm 40 and without my ovary i'm in it full on!). I have very very little pain now and overall (except for the sleeping!) have my life back and its wonderful. I suggest you find a specialist and talk through the pros and cons of long term meds. It's not cheap but in Ireland the max we pay is 132 euros a month for meds and for me i'd pay double that to feel pain free. 'Hope this helps. Health to all, J.

I HAD MY GALLBLADDER OUT 3 MONTHS AGO, NOW HAVING A BURNING SENSATION OVER THE RUQ, AND A DULL ACHE IN MY RIGHT FLANK. SOMETIMES THE PAIN IN MY SIDE ISN'T PAIN AT ALL, IN FACT, IT FEELS LIKE THERES JUST SOMETHING THERE APPLING LIGHT PRESSURE. I TO FEEL LIKE I'M GOING NUTS WITH THIS,I JUST WISH IT WOULD BE OVER. I'M ONLY 25YRS. OLD, I'M NOT SUPPOSE TO BE IN PAIN!
omg!!!!!!!!!!!! SAME PAIN AND SAME THING HAD Gallbladder removed 3yrs ago , pain on right side under right rib , like a dull pain are pressure stay bloated all the time and hurts really bad after I eat are drink . any results for you ?
Sound similar to my issue. Had GB surgery 8 months ago. Have the same pain in right side . Like yours mine isn't sharp pain but a feeling like something is being twisted or pulled then I get awful bloating until it takes my breath away. All this occurs only when standing and/or walking. Pain sometime go into lower back when it's the worst. The longer I'm on my feet the worse it gets. When I sit down or lay it subsides. Had Catscan, ultrasound and tons of blood work and doctors don't have a clue. I keep telling them its scar tissue but they won't do anything because they can't see it on the test. Im at wits end.

I had my gallbladder removed in Aug 2006 and one month later I had major pain attacks similar to gallstone attack but way more severe. After 3 emergency room visits in the middle of the night, screaming in pain, vomiting yellow/green bile and 2 weeks of incredible pain, it was finally determined it was Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction (S.O.D.D) which is a possible complication after having your gallbladder removed. http://my.clevelandclinic.org/disorders/gastrointestinal_tract_disorders/hic-sphincter-of-oddi-dysfunction.aspx Basically it means the common bile duct muscle stopped working and digestive juices back up and causes incredible pain and eventually vomiting if it has closed completely. Many of having pain in the same area as the gallbladder may need to have this looked at as a possible problem. It's very common after removing the gall bladder. The repair to fix it was an ERCP procedure where they do a scope and clip the muscle to allow it to open, of course there is a risk of pancreatitis after the proecedure so my doctor put in a stent in the pancreatic duct to reduce the 20% risk to 7%. The procedure was immediately successful and I felt better right away. Flash forward a year after that, 2007, I started getting pain on the upper left side under the rib cage, exactly opposite side of the gallbladder pain. Back to the doctors and they did a MRCP MRI and a scope and didn't find anything wrong. Put me on Nexium for 3 yrs and now Zantac but I still have the pain. I went to a naturopathic doctor who says it's likelyy scar tissue that has latched onto my intestine and is causing intestinal spasms since the bowels can't move properly. Massage on the abdomen, low acid diet, low fat diet, small meals, castor oil packs and colonics all seem to help with the pain. Don't like the idea of surgery to remove scar tissue to then cause more scar tissue. If anyone has done that and had success, please let us know.
