I don't believe you are going nuts at all!  From what I read here, seems like scarring is happening?  Check back with your doctor, though.  This scar tissue attaching to something - my struggle right now - after gall bladder removal surgery 15 years ago.  Can this be?

I have been experiencing the same pain as you after having liver surgery to remove a very large cyst from my liver. You really do begin to think that you are loosing your mind sometimes, especially if you do not have a good doctor. What have you decided to do about it? Trying not to return to pain pills. Thanks so much for sharing!

I am so relieved to read all these stories of people who have had Gallbladder surgery and still have pain in the upper right side. I had my Gallbladder removed in 1992 and I have flair ups with this pain that sometimes gets sharp. The pain comes and goes and radiates to my back and sometimes up into my shoulder. The reason my Gallbladder was removed was because it was dead...non functioning and I had the Laproscopic Surgery. I've had Endoscopies, Colonoscopies, and about a year ago, had a series of 3 Cat Scans on my Liver and Pancreas with Contrast not to mention blood work. The only thing that showed up was that I have scar tissue where my Gallbladder was and cysts on my Liver which are non cancerous. I was told that probably the scar tissue is what's causing my pain. It's horrible to be in this kind of pain and have to live with it. So at least I know that I'm not alone and that other people are going through this same pain from having their Gallbladder removed. So glad I'm not imagining this pain!

My gallbladder was removed in 2005 after my daughter was born and i have had problems off and on ever since. I have had this constant pain on my right side now for months and I am going back to the gastro doctor to see if something is going on with scar tissue or something worse. I cant do anything, including exercise which is something that i really enjoyed doing. They are saying that its possible that my scar tissue has caused the problem or possibly an inflammation of the pancreas

Wow, I had my gallbladder removed in 2000, while I was 6 months pregnant with my daughter. The last 5 months I have had pain in my right upper quad. I have had kidney and bladder tests, liver tests, colonoscopy and endoscopy, blood tests, urine tests, x-rays, ct- scans, MRI's, and a sonogram. The doctors can't find anything wrong. My health has went down hill the last 5 years. I have been diagnosised with non-alcoholic liver disease, I get kidney stones all the time, I have ulcertive colitis, high blood pressure, late in life type one diabetes, high choloestrol, and who knows what else. The last 5 months have been horrific. The doctor's have decided that since my "pain" is not easily explained, wrapped in a box with a bow, I must be a drug attic. OMG I could hurt somebody. Thanks to all of your post I now believe my pain is caused by scar tissue and I am going to follow that up. I have been on pain meds, off and on for over 5 years. I am so scared of the word addiction I suffer longer than necessary before taking stuff for pain. The id**t doctors know this because they went on that new site in Virginia and added up how many pills I have had in the last year, After completing some math skills they realized I have only taken 2 to 3 pills a day (if that). I have had to suffer because of addiction in my family so this really ticks me off. I had a problem with scar tissue two years ago. I had to have my tubes and ovaries removed due to a cyst disease. The pain started 6 months later. This was the first time I had all the previous test and nothing showed anything wrong. After 5 trips to the ER a doctor took pity on me. The blood work was slightly elevated and I had all the symptoms of my appendix rupturing. He went in and was shocked. Scar tissue had "superglued itself" to the bottom of my appendix and had caused a small tear. They took pictures but none of it ever showed on the tests I had done. My question is who do I see if I think I have scar tissue from my gallbladder? Do I go back to the doc who took out my appendix? The other doc no longer works here. This site may have just saved me from fixing my own pain. I was very discouraged and at my wits end. I don't know how people live with chronic pain, I hate that doctors are so ready to label you a drug addict without any proof. I also how this new site can list our prescription drugs even though we have the hippaa law. This is like being judged quilty without having a trial and somebody needs to do something. I absolutely believe that prejudice has been shown toward me because of that government web site and believe everyone is now in danger of being treated badly due to their past medical problems. Sorry I just had to rant.

I had my gall bladder removed 2 1/2 years ago. About 6 months ago, I developed a terrible pain in my upper right side, behind my rib cage, which radiates around to my back. Digestive problems are also an issue - I am always full and cannot eat without getting heartburn. A CAT scan showed that I have scar tissue that has attached to my intestine since the gall bladder surgery. The doctor says that this is the cause of the digestive problems. He says that removal of this tissue may result in more scar tissue and I would have the same problem. I am 29 years old and need to know what can be done to help. The constant pain prevents me from doing alot of things that I did before. Please help!!! I would like to be able to go about the day without pain AND be able to eat without feeling full or sick all of the time. I am interested to know what you have to say.

I also had my gall bladder removed and now have pain under my right rib cage and around to my back and I also have lower right lower quadrant pain . I had a colonoscopy today and found nothing. I'm not sure what to do next. The pain seems to come and go but is getting more frequent . I also get very bloated after I eat. I didn't realize other people are going through the same thing.

After mis diagnosis and 2 stays in the hospital a doctor there felt my ovary ('only have one!) could be causing constant pain in my stomach. When they went to have a look they found it bound down with scar tissue and gyne decided after hormone shots that seemed to reduce pain to remove. less than a week after a very difficult surgery pain was back. I was also told i'd scar tissue throughout my abdomen as high as my rib cage and low as my bowels and the only way to stop it was to open me from sternum to stomach and re sect. This really wasn't an option and i went to a pain specialist. He put me on lyrica and after playing around with the dosage for a wile we seem to have it right. I realise there are side effects that many people suffer, fortunately I havent really (unless insomnia is one, but that could also be down to now early menapause - i'm 40 and without my ovary i'm in it full on!). I have very very little pain now and overall (except for the sleeping!) have my life back and its wonderful. I suggest you find a specialist and talk through the pros and cons of long term meds. It's not cheap but in Ireland the max we pay is 132 euros a month for meds and for me i'd pay double that to feel pain free. 'Hope this helps. Health to all, J.

Sound similar to my issue. Had GB surgery 8 months ago. Have the same pain in right side . Like yours mine isn't sharp pain but a feeling like something is being twisted or pulled then I get awful bloating until it takes my breath away. All this occurs only when standing and/or walking. Pain sometime go into lower back when it's the worst. The longer I'm on my feet the worse it gets. When I sit down or lay it subsides. Had Catscan, ultrasound and tons of blood work and doctors don't have a clue. I keep telling them its scar tissue but they won't do anything because they can't see it on the test. Im at wits end.

i thought that i was the only one that has had this pain but mine is just on my right side close to my ribs and let me tell you it hurts, i have had a CT scan and they said that everything looked good, but i am in a lot of pain, they are now trying shots in my stomach for pain but this seems to make it worse, i do not have the issue with eating but now that i have read what you wrote i do have heart burn a lot, i am really worried about this pain because when it comes i can not do anything, i feel like i should of never had my gallbladder removed if i was going to be in this kind of pain.

i had gallbladder out in 1982. Pain from scar tissue is terrible. Sometimes it cramps, like a charliehorse?and i must go to bed. doc says it will just grow back if scar tissue cut out. Maybe it will grow back slow and i will get a few years of relief. Eating makes me very tired and i take any pain meds they will allow.
just need a good surgeon that understands the intestins, liver and pain???

I had my gallbladder removed in Aug 2006 and one month later I had major pain attacks similar to gallstone attack but way more severe. After 3 emergency room visits in the middle of the night, screaming in pain, vomiting yellow/green bile and 2 weeks of incredible pain, it was finally determined it was Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction (S.O.D.D) which is a possible complication after having your gallbladder removed. http://my.clevelandclinic.org/disorders/gastrointestinal_tract_disorders/hic-sphincter-of-oddi-dysfunction.aspx Basically it means the common bile duct muscle stopped working and digestive juices back up and causes incredible pain and eventually vomiting if it has closed completely. Many of having pain in the same area as the gallbladder may need to have this looked at as a possible problem. It's very common after removing the gall bladder. The repair to fix it was an ERCP procedure where they do a scope and clip the muscle to allow it to open, of course there is a risk of pancreatitis after the proecedure so my doctor put in a stent in the pancreatic duct to reduce the 20% risk to 7%. The procedure was immediately successful and I felt better right away. Flash forward a year after that, 2007, I started getting pain on the upper left side under the rib cage, exactly opposite side of the gallbladder pain. Back to the doctors and they did a MRCP MRI and a scope and didn't find anything wrong. Put me on Nexium for 3 yrs and now Zantac but I still have the pain. I went to a naturopathic doctor who says it's likelyy scar tissue that has latched onto my intestine and is causing intestinal spasms since the bowels can't move properly. Massage on the abdomen, low acid diet, low fat diet, small meals, castor oil packs and colonics all seem to help with the pain. Don't like the idea of surgery to remove scar tissue to then cause more scar tissue. If anyone has done that and had success, please let us know.
