I've been dealing with right side abdominal pain for over 6 months now. From the beginning I said it's right where my gallbladder would be IF I had one. It was removed about 4 years prior to this pain showing up. I've chased my tail for the last 6 months. My GI doc did every test he could do, and ruled out everything he could, before passing me back to my Gyno with the theory that maybe it was endometriosis (because the pain replicated during sex). She went in and did laproscopy and I did have moderate Endo, but now (2 months later) the pain is still there. I've seen a pelvic pain specialist and am now in PT. The specialist said he felt like it was probably muscular, but if I didn't improve by the time I saw him again in 4 months he'd be doing surgery again to see what might have been missed. He put in me PT and they have suggested something I've wondered for a while... that it might be scar tissue from my GB surgery. After the laproscopy my Gyno told my husband that there was "a lot of scar tissue" around my gallbladder. He replied "she doesn't have a gallbladder" to which my Gyno replied "yeah, then there's definitely a lot of scar tissue there".  I've got another 4 months of this before I see the specialist again, and after two visits to PT I'm not really hopeful that they are going to be able to help much. They said they can work on the scar tissue at the incisions, but I don't think they can do much about the gallbladder.

I am so glad to have read all of these posts. I had my gallbladder removed 7 years ago and within a year I started having problems. I have pain and a knot in my upper abdominal area. The pain radiates to my back and shoulder. I also have constipation problems and a feeling of fullness. When the surgeon removed my gallbladder, he said it did not have gallstones but it was inflamed. My Dr. diagnosed me with IBS but I just can't believe that is the only explanation. Now I think I will discuss this with my Dr. on my next visit. I experience this pain almost every day. Atleast now I know I am not crazy or the only one out there. Thank you for posting your experiences.

You were scammed on by our deceptive medical society initially concerning the gallbladder surgery. I and countless others are being taken advantage of by our trust, not just with this surgery. The description of the aftermath of having digestion problems, not being able to eat without feeling full or sick all of the time and the pain within the upper right side where they took the gallbladder out and then did what.....re-directed everything that was once natural and part of our whole body's equilibrium, is just part of the woes that everyone is experiencing from this surgery. Have you tried exercising your stomach or abdominal area? Does this make pain? It makes excruciating pain in me and as you age it has gotten worse because the skin thins. Our government is allowing these nonsensical surgery's for money flow. Just try going public with what you feel, especially to the newspapers.

I know the feeling. I started having pain in my right side about one year ago. It was so bad that I thought I had kidney stones. Had scan and was told that I did have some stones and to drink plenty of water in which I did. Pain returned this year 2013. More frenquent then before and much more painful. I saw a urologist who ordered a C.A.T scan two weeks ago and results were that I did not have a stone and kidney was fine. Although he did give me a prescription for pain when I went to him and those pills worked well for the pain, however, it was only for about 20 pills. Since one pill only manages the pain for 3 - 4 hours at a time I had to take several a day when the pain starts because the pain last all day and into the night. He just told me to follow up with my health care doctor, in which I did. I had my gallbladder removed 5 years ago which was done laparoscopic. My Dr. finally said it is probably scar tissue. I told her that I need pain meds because it is no way I can handle this pain. It comes on suddenly and feels like it is deep under my rib cage. The spot is right were the small incision was. Also have a change in bowel movement, still regular but harder to move then before. My Dr. gave me the number to a surgeon whom I will see tomorrow. I am afraid of this pain. When it starts my pressure rises and I get nervous cause it can get so bad. I am willing to have surgery to get rid of it even if it comes back ten years from now because I think it is doing damage on something else in my body. I live in Baltimore MD and hope I can get this under control.

I forgot to say that I also had a MRI last year when pain first started and a colonoscopy in May of this 2013 when it started again just to rule out everything. I wasn't satisfied since I kept having pain off and on. So I saw the urologist. I tried to manage pain with 2 Aleve per day but when the pain is severe.

Well, I had gallbladder surgery back in 2006 and I also have experiencing pain on and off below my rib cage on the right side. I went to my gastroenterologist to explain the pain that I had been having and he ran different test but they were negative. I had heard about probiotics and I told him I would like to start taking that to see if it would help with the pain that I have. I have been taking it for about six months and I think it really has helped. I also take Nexium for my gastritis. So the combination of the probiotics and nexium could be what's helping with the pain. Hope this helps some!

I would not take these scar adheisions lightly.  A friend of mine is now in ICU in critical condition.  She was feeling fine one day...no indication of any problems and had been to her GI doc the day before.  Then, just out of the blue, she got very sick and vomited all over and was found on the bed in vomit and so ill she could not raise her head.  The EMT was called immediately and her blood pressure was so low that she was near death.  They could not even take her to get a CT scan until they brought her blood pressure up when she got to the hospital.  When they finally did, it was found that her colon and part of her small intestine had adhered to other surgical scars.  They had to remove her colon and part of her small intestine.  She is still in ICU, but is able to talk now.  The surgery incision has to remain open because she is septic and they have to pack her and have a wound pump on her.  She is not out of the woods yet.

I don't want to scare anyone.  Many people have the scar tissue that adheres and no problems.  Just be sure you have it checked out, especially if you have fever and are vomiting.

Hello I am having the same problem. It hurts to even take a deep breath. My doctors are saying there are no test that will show if it is scar tissue. I had my gallbladder removed about 5 months ago and the pain feels like something sticking to my ribs. I cant do anything anymore. Can you tell me the exact scan or test that showed your scar tissue build up please.

I had the same problem with BM's,my gallbladder was removed when I was 25,my problem started in my forties. In due process of things my thyroid functions were checked and I was told my levels were normal, but having some medical experience, I continued to pursue the possibility of a thyroid issue. I developed a noticeable lump in the front of my neck. I kept being told my thyroid was normal. They removed my large intwstine in January of 2000 and in April of 2000 removed my thyroid. I had papillary carcinoma of the thyroid, had a total thyroidectomy and radiation therapy. Check out systoms of thyroid disease on the web. Most people, including doctors don't even consider thyroid issues so all must be proactive and request thyroid testing, although if you don't see the right kind of doctor, most doctors don't check all components and don't know how to interpet.

I have the exact same symptoms since having my gallbladder removed. It hurts whenever I eat. Even small amounts. Same spot I hurt when gallbladder was there. It will sometimes hurts to touch it, like the area is bruised or something. It feels sometimes like something is in there being pinched. My doctor referred to it as phantom pains. Other than having a ton of tests which never show anything but kills my bank account I can't get any answers or relief. I have been living with this for years. When its at it worst only relief is to lay down flat and just not move for awhile. I wish I could find answers and relief. I did not realize so many people had same problems. Also have many digestive issues. After eating most of time it seems to go through fast many times within minutes of meal I have to have bowel movement and its usually loose. I am hoping reading this thread maybe I can find some answers or possible things that will help.
