Awesome! i have been searching the internet for days trying to find a cure that doesnt involve cutting the buggars off. Ill try this. Thanks again.
Yeah, I had several bumps similar to what you described on the side of my penis. I'm fairly certain I caused these cysts by plucking hairs out of the shaft of my penis (the bumps grew on the left side of it, I remember having a hard time plucking some hairs on the left side of my penis with the tweezers in my right hand. several hairs broke off rather than pulling out completely). Once little pimple-like bumps had developed where the hairs were becoming ingrown, I attempted to pop these and they only made the situation worse and each bump more pronounced (I attempted to only pop a couple so that I could see if they made things worse compared to the untouched ones). Trying to pop them only made them more irritated.
They did not want to go away. Months and months went by (probably about a year) and they seemed to neither heal nor grow in that time frame. I started to apply salicylic acid (acne treatment) on the spots several times a day. This helped some, I'd say. I started to (lightly) exfoliate the area and take long, hot baths nearly every day, still trying to use the salicylic acid a few times each day (don't apply the stuff right after exfoliating... it stings! lol), still, this did not yield the results I was hoping for.
Obviously, this was scary. I was worried I had caught some weird STD. For that reason my sex life became nonexistent. I thought I had ruined my penis. I thought I'd have to swallow my pride and go show a doctor, and from what I read online, have these bumps surgically removed (I get lightheaded and nauseous just thinking about that). People claim immediate results when they use needles to pop these, but that was just out of the question for me. I did not want to possibly scar my penis or do more harm than I already had. Eventually, with enough hot baths and exfoliation, I had a glimmer of hope when I saw some hair finally poking through the cyst, confirming these were ingrown hairs.
I decided to try one last holistic approach I had heard a little about. TEA TREE OIL. It was like $10 on amazon. Simply applying the stuff with a cotton ball on the cysts started to make a significant difference. They started to dry up, and more and more dead skin would exfoliate off every day. The most drastic differences occurred when:
1. I took a nice long, hot bath every day, using exfoliating gloves gently on the area (I say gently, however the more aggressive I got with it, the quicker the cysts went away).
2. After the bath, I'd drop several drops of Tea Tree oil onto a cotton ball and rubbed it into the affected area.
3. I would then use medical tape (designed for "sensitive skin"... CVS brand) and taped the Tea Tree oil soaked cotton ball directly onto the area. Most youtube videos I watched suggested using a band-aid of some sort to cover the area after treating it with Tea Tree oil, DO NOT USE A BANDAID ON YOUR PENIS, this pulled out more hair when removing the strip and created MORE CYSTS. The medical tape was nowhere near as bad on my sensitive penile skin.
4. I would leave my makeshift bandage on overnight, remove and then gawk at how much better and smoother the area would look (even if i was only imagining things, this eventually made the difference).
5. Reducing masturbation. The biggest difference occurred when I combined all of these practices, but not masturbating really allowed the cysts to heal.
I will say that when I slightly broke the skin on the cysts from exfoliation (ouch) and then applied the Tea Tree oil overnight, I would see the most immediate differences. When the cysts would open up and the oil gets directly into them, they would weep and really open up (looking very frightening in the process) but then heal and almost completely disappear (a lot of itching involved as well). So, perhaps opening these cysts up with a clean needle is the quickest way to get rid of them. If you're a bit too squeamish for that (like me), or do not have insurance to pay a doctor to slice them off (like me), try Tea Tree oil, exfoliation, and warm baths, and be patient with it (give it a month or two if they've been around for a while). Do your research on the Tea Tree oil though, some people are allergic to it.
If it is a cyst and causing you pain, then you definitely need to see a doctor. But for the most part, sebaceous glands (or fordyce spots) are totally harmless and common and should simply be ignored. However, lots of guys suffer from severely dry skin down there and try to use regular old hand lotion to clear it up. This is a bad idea... a lot of this stuff contains chemicals that can make it even worse. Using a penis health creme is the best move here... a good one will contain Vitamin E and shea butter. It will keep the skin moisturized and soft. Good luck to you.
