HELLO,
I AM 29 YEAR OLD FEMALE WITH TWO CHILDREN, AFTER HAVING SEX WITH MY HUSBAND WITHIN FEW MINUTES I STARTED HAVING SEVERE ABDOMINAL PAIN,REALLY DULL PAIN. ALSO I FELT VERY FAINTY, SHIVERS, PINS AND NEEDLES AS WELL AS BEING SICK. I COULD NOT MOVE AT ALL, I WAS EXPECTING TO FIND SOME SORT OF POSITION TO EASE THE PAIN BUT I COULD NOT. AFTER 40 MIN THE PAIN STARTED TO EASE OFF AND WE WENT TO THE LOCAL DOCTOR. AFTER EXTERNAL AND INTERNAL EXMINATION I KNEW I DID NOT HAVE ANY KIND OF INFECTION AND WAS LEFT WITH SOME PAIN KILLERS FOR THE REST OF THE NIGHT WHICH DID HELP(BY THEN I ONLY FELT MY STOMACK ACHING SLIGHTLY AND A BIT BLOATED), HOWEVER THE PRACTITIONER COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING OBVIOUS WRONG WITH ME.
WOULD YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHATS HAPPENING AS I AM RATHER CONCERN SO IS MY HUSBAND.
KIND REGARDS

I don't consider that responding to the threadstarter's concerns with an advertisement is particularly helpful. One should never simply buy a machine to assist with pain without first consulting a GP and undergoing a proper examination. In this case the lady's GP could find nothing specifically wrong with her but if the symptoms persist she should certainly return for further investigation before self-treating.

Oh my goodness, just last night (5/30) I had the exact same symptoms you described. I'm 32 years old, had sex at 2:30 in the morning, and all the sudden started having what felt like menstrual cramps that got to the point of intense pain. I, like you, could not find any position helpful in trying to relax. I tried laying down, standing up, sitting down, all kept me having the sudden severe pain. I tried going to the bathroom, then the pain made me profusely sweat. After about 10 minutes, I felt like I needed to throw up and I did. I had taken an Aleve right before I tried to go to the bathroom, and 30 minutes after, I felt better, completely better. No more pain, no sweating, and no vomiting and I was able to go back to sleep. I did want to go to ER when I was in that intense pain, but could not make myself get into car with husband due to the intensity of the pain.
I'm completely fine today.....
No idea what is/was wrong. I am due to start my period in 2-3 days, but this was too severe of pain to be regular pre menstrual cramps.

I had the same problem a couple of nights ago. I had sex around 3-4 in the morning but had to stop in the middle when a dull pain started. Within a minute it had turned into the worst pain I've ever had and I was unable to stand or speak. I crawled to the bathroom and my upper body was sweating profusely. My bf tried massaging my lower abdomen but nothing worked at all. I was in so much pain that I was unable to dress myself so my bf bf dressed me and we left for the hospital but halfway through the painkillers had started their effect and I came back to normal. I am going to see my doctor on moday as I don't want to ever go through that pain again. BTW my period is about to start in a day or two.

I am 31 years old with one child and am married. I too have had the exact same symptoms as you all. I am fine prior to having sex, but once we start having sex I have the most severe pain that I have ever had in my life. I got chills, sweats, could not find any position to make the pain go away. I could not stand up, sit down only just lay down with a heating pad on. The heating pad did help a little. The next day around noon the pain finally went away. I do have an IUD, and have had one every five years. Any ideas?

HI, I am experiencing just what you all have described right now and I just had sex immediately after waking. It is about the fourth time this has happened in the last 3 years. I can barely move and feel like throwing up and am sweating. These are typical pain reactions though, if you can remember a time when you have had severe pain. When we need more blood circulation in an area of the body then the blood will be directed there and will leave our heads feeling faint. I just took 2 aspirin and I'm going to wait this out but as you all have reported here, no position relieves the pain. I'm not sure if it's muscular pain, uterine pain, or intestinal pain. All would make sense. All I know is that it is intense, the first time it happened I could not move a muscle for hours and it was the middle of the night (sex).....so I'm thinking it is related to being all curled up (shortens the abdominal muscles) while sleeping and then suddenly performing the quick thrusting required in sex, and most of you know that an orgasm consists of quick, rhythmic contractions of the genetalia so.....I guess I will have to do what I read one person does and be sure to stretch and relax before morning or middle of the night sex. Good luck. I feel alot better knowing I'm not alone, thanks for posting.

I am 20 years old and my boyfriend and I were in the middle of sex last night when I started getting bad abdominal pains. I woke up with the pain still, although it was up in my stomach too, and I got severe shooting pains after urination that shot downward toward my vagina. Certain ways I sat or moved, I could feel pain in my chest and shoulders. I had this same kind of pain a few months ago in my abdomin and my doctor said it was a small cyst on my left ovary that would probably pass with my period. I didnt have the weird stomach, chest or shoulder pains with the ovary though. Its a very weird pain in my stomach, it feels almost as if Ive just have surgery or something and am sore from it. it hurts to take deep breaths. What could it be?

Oh my god, i was certain to be the only one having these weird/super intense pains!!!! Exactly like you've all described them, I've been having them over the last 2-3 years, maybe 5 times in total, and i noticed that it was always happening during the week right before i was going to have my periods. I saw that quite many of you said you were due to have your periods 3-5 days after the symptoms occurred, so im reaaaally thinking there is something related here, perhaps with the premenstrual disposition of our reproductive system or something. Anyways im gonna look it up, see if i cant find any research that has made the link, but either way, its great to know im not alone!!! Good luck to us all!

i am so glad to know that im not the only one who has been having these pains after sex. i am about to start my period in a few days so there must be some correlation if this is the same for others. it's like having the worst menstrual cramps times 100! i hope there is a reason behind this and i hope it can be taken care of. the pain is so intense that i couldn't do anything except bundle up in a ball. i also got cold sweats and felt faintly and tingly. i found that laying on my side and being very still tends to help it go away sooner. i hope you ladies find out what is wrong.

I'm 28 and Ive been under the GP/hospital for a year and a half with the same pains you're all describing. I've only experienced these pains with my current boyfriend, but he seems to go deeper than anybody else has done when we have sex. My pains start off within a minute or two after sex, they feel like the really horrendous period pains I used to get when I was a teenager. At their worst they last about 40 minutes before I am able to get to sleep. I feel sick, very faint, hot/cold/clammy all over, feel like I need to go to the toilet, and I'm always left in tears. There have been exceptions but this usually happens the week before my period.
Painkillers are useless as they take ages to kick in. I find that the best treatment is a hot water bottle - my boyfriend is very understanding, he can tell when the pains are kicking in and runs off to fill a hot water bottle very quickly! We also avoid deeply penetrative sex in the week before my period, and this definitely helps.
After all the investigations you can possibly have, the professionals have now told me they don't know what's causing the pains - "it's just one of those things". I have had regular smears, numerous internal examinations, plenty of swabs which came back negative for infection, two ultrasound scans and finally a laparoscopy. This is a day-care minor operation under general anaesthetic where the surgeon makes a tiny incision under your belly button and uses a microscopic camera to have a look around and take a photo. Your belly is inflated with carbon dioxide to give them more space to move things around a bit. This leaves some pain in your diaphragm and shoulders for a few days, but does fade. They recommend a week off work, overall it took me a couple of weeks to stop aching completely as I was badly bruised (I bruise like a peach anyway!). After all that I was told that my insides look completely healthy, no endometriosis, cysts, fibroids, polyps, anything... This was good news, but I still don't know what's causing the pain!
I would recommend you all go to get it checked out, as they might find something that they're able to treat you for. But if like me you might be facing this forever, you have to find the best way to cope with it and avoid it where possible.
Sounds like there are lots of us out there!

I have also had all of these symptoms, but i'm on birth control that only allows for my period to come every 3 months. I will pay more attention to when in my cycle these pains occur if it's in fact related to being within a few days of getting my period. I have had this happen maybe 5-7 times in the past 6 years, the pain lasting from 5 minutes to 25 minutes after sex. The first time was horrible. I've always wondered if this could be related to having or not having an orgasm as well. It's never happened after an orgasm. Also could this be some female equivalent to "blue balls?" (Sorry for the ridiculous term. I don't know a more technical one.)
If anyone has heard any new information, please post. I would love any ideas. Thanks.

You guys might want to have your ovaries checked out. I had the same thing happen to me and it turned out i had a cyst on one of my overies. It got so big that it twisted and then had to be removed. My other theory is that your overies might be swollen( due to upcoming period) which somehow will make sex painful.

I'm glad that I found some woman who are experiencing the same thing as me. Always the week before I have my period, after having sex, whether i orgasm or not, I have THE WORST PAIN IN THE WORLD. I cant talk or hold still but never find a postion that will sooth me. I recently went to the doctor and he had no idea what it could be. The only thing he could think of was endometriosis. But I really dont think that is what it is. I have NO other symptoms of it, and from the looks of some of you women, you've had children no problem. So I am just in the dark about all of this as you. I hope we figure something out SOON. I will keep researching as I'm sure you will. Good luck. Stay strong!

I'm 20 years old, am on Ortho Tri-Cyclen and have recently gotten these same pains. Although, most of you report having them before your period, I had my period last week.

2 days ago I had sex, and had these pains for an hour or two. Today I had a sore lower left abdominal, had sex, and almost immediately after was in terrible pain, felt rather spacey and rather sick.

I was just wondering if anyone has found out what these pains might be caused by? I've heard a lot of talk about ovarian cysts and endometriosis....but, as I don't have health insurance I want to find out if this is serious before I go in.
