Pain on right side of stomach

I have been experiencing spasmodic pain on my right side. The pain can be very acute at times and can momentarily curb any movement until I breath slowly and try to relax. Turning over in bed at night can be extremely uncomfortable. I am starting to consider that I may be experiencing the pain on evenings that I have had a drink. Last year I went to my GP and had blood tests that all came back clear. I and I am not a heavy drinker, I may have a couple of glasses of wine at home at the weekend. I don't go out much but when I do I would have 4-5 drinks at the most. I'm 53 years old. I know I'm overweight but am on a successful diet at the moment and the weight is coming down.
I am concerned that my liver or kidneys are causing this discomfort. The pain that others have posted about here does sound similar but my pain can be quite acute and delbilitating and then pass to a dull soreness in my side. I really don't know how to proceed with this now.

Hi all,

Unfortunately i have been a heavy binge drinker for 15 years , I am 35 and ive been experinecing similar issues to you all. Recently I have experienced a dull pain in my right side lower back (kidney) for 2 weeks now after drinking far too much alchol in 1 night. It is painful and uncomfortable and it has happened a couple of times before this year and just happend for 1 day until my hangover went. Ive been so worried and went to the doctors and the blood tests showed i had high creatine levels , I wnet back 5 days later and they have returned to normal, my doctor says that could have been a red herring due to dehydration and has put me on antibotics for the week hoping it will treat the problem , i need to return in a week if pain is still there. My question is, has anyone else experienced this? Im praying the antibotics clear up whatever has happend , but i know it is a direct link to the ridicolous amount of alchol i consumed. Ive decided im not drinking again but i really need to find out what has happened. Could it be an inflammed kidney?Should i ask my doctor to check specific things?? My doctors is based in a univeristy where i work and they are used to typically treating 18 -21 year olds, i doubt they have come across this frequently. Ive been in pain now for 2 weeks its so odd. Thanks

Hi folks!
I used to be a very heavy drinker and worked in the bar trader for around 15 years. Since quitting 4 years ago I've managed to cut down to very occasional (less than once a month) social night out and/or special occasions. I thought after all this time the pains in my right side would have finally gone but I still get the odd stabbing pains here and there. If I do go out for a night out then it's obviously a lot more painful and frequent. I've not been to the docs yet as I only go once a year or so but thought I'd see if anyone else was in the same boat.

I have pain in my liver region,My blood tests have shown Norman liver function, and an ultra sound 12 months ago showed a fatty liver but no damage
Although I have 6 monthly blood tests,I cannot help wondering whether it is my blood pressure medication.I have been a very light drinker for 8 years after retiring from the pub trade.Any observations?

a bottle of wine is considered 10 units, if she is having that everyday that is 70+ units a week and the healthy ratio for women is 4-6 units a week. she may definitely have liver damage

I am 55 years old and have been a heavy drinker off and on through out my adult life. I had previously stopped drinking for a bout 5 years (ex gf didn't approve) and I have been drinking almost daily (probably 1/4 to 3/8 of a 1.75 liter bottle of whiskey every night) for the past 5 years. Recently I started to experience right side pain, mostly in the morning, some of it severe. I thought I had kidney stones but there was no blood in my urine and blood test for liver and kidney function were normal so my doctor didn't schedule a CT scan or MRI. I decided to stop drinking for 5 days and the condition began to improve. Then I drank for 2 nights and the pain returned. I stopped drinking for another week and the pain is almost gone. This morning I had a cup of coffee and the pain returned (but not at the severe pain threshold previously experienced). It looks like coffee will be off my list of things to drink as well. My plan for now is to give up drinking alcohol and coffee for at least 6 months. I think the person who said his doctor told him his body was telling him to give up drinking was probably spot on, in my case at least.

I'd say it's just an ulcer... But for myself I know better this is comming from my liver not my stomach. I'm certain I'm gonna die and I'm killing myself. Unfortunately for myself I was giving bottles of milk spiked with Brandy as a baby, old thinkings and teachings about colic. Old wives tales about just put some brandy in the milk and if that doesn't work drink it yourself. Been drinking since I was 5 though I've been told I was caught drinking at 3. I don't remember it, but I believe I'll die from it none the less whatever it's done to me physically I believe it's a dying sign. I'm 32 female. I've prayed to everything tryed everything wished and sweared I doubt I'll be able to stop but I still hope for a miracle. Had an ulcer once was playing a dumb drinking game 6 man downing vodka and I was throwing up straight blood the next day. I hope I die anyway so I stay strong as I can given the blight.
