It can grow back which will cause you to have a period. You can still get pregnant after having an ablation. It is dangerous to you and the baby. I have read a few people that have said they had a normal pregnancy.

This is much delayed but I am reading because I too have severe cramping. i do want to tell you I was a high risk OB nurse for years and, yes, you can get pregnant. What's worse is that because you have a scarred lining your placenta grows into your uterus. This is call d an acreta and it is very dangerous. Almost always results in a hysterectomy due to heavy bleeding after birth. And about 2010 they quit telling patients this could be a form of birth control and also strongly encouraged a second form of permanent birth control for you or your spouse.

I had a tubal and ablation back in 2010. My period over the last year starting in 2016 was occasional spotting and now has progressed to horrible cramping, light red bleeding, tender breasts. I don't understand why Mr obgyn who did the procedures didn't tell me about these horrible side effects. I am fine with bleeding and hormonal changes but the pain is killing me. Has anyone else had any other issues with this procedure throwing your body into premenopause? Also, had anyone thought about contacting an attorney?

I had the procedure done in 2007. No bleeding or cramping until about 6 months ago. Around that time I began to have the worst cramps ever!! So much so that I would rather go through natural childbirth again instead. And during the cramping episodes, I feel a constant urge to poop...
As for the bleeding...Not so much. I may spot but it's so rare that I'm not really concerned about it. Other than the cramping, has ANYONE experienced having a discharge? It only happens during the cramping episodes.
I've been to the Dr several times. I've had, pap smear, pelvic exams, ultrasounds(even vaginally) and even a full STD panel. And still...NO ANSWERS...
I must say, honestly, that the severity of the cramping I'm experiencing present day is still no comparison to the past and I went from a 7-14 day period, using 2 super tampons at once along with a pad so...Spotting occasionally seems like a blessing!! The discharge, however, is a whole other story! It is annoying as hell! It makes me EXTREMELY self conscious! I've purchased every feminine hygiene product on the market it can be shoved into my purse. Does ANYONE have ANY suggestions??

I have the same issue and my Doctor told me to get rid of the pain I would need a partial hysterectomy. I'm terrified to have that done. I work out regularly and lift heavy weights. I'm 40 years old. How did you do with the hysterectomy? Any concern of side effects. Did you gain or lose weight?

It is just awful and I can certainly echo your pains. I had an ablation 8 years ago and every month the pain is worse despite lack of bleeding. It is unfortunate that obs are so wishy washy on how to manage the pain aspect of this. I have tried progesterone which helped somewhat but the weight and bloating as well as moodiness that came with it led me to take myself off and suffer through the pain. As a pharmacist I feel this is unacceptable to have to "suffer through the pain" each month and would welcome any additional insights on how others have managed through it while avoiding hysterectomies.

I had a c- section in 2004, a tubal in 2011 and an ablation in 2012. The reasons for the ablation was to stop the bi monthly periods which were quite heavy. In 2015 I started to experience horrible pelvic/abdominal pain usually once a month but not always.. The last really bad run with this past February when I woke up in LABOR.. Tons of medication later and I was still uncomfortable for days.. Was so bloated and uncomfortable that I was barely able to bear down to urinate and move my bowels (TMI I know) . Pelvic ultrasounds show 3 smallish fibroids..one between membranes of uterus and 2 on inside.. My internist believes that this is blood backing up that can't escapee due to ablation, as it resolves after a few days.. I'm at a loss.. Any suggestions?

So happy to read all of these responses because about three years post ablation, I started having such intense pain that I had to get a prescription for pain medication every month around my period. I never had bleeding except a very slight amount then a few months ago I started bleeding what I would refer to as a light period and the cramps ceased. Now the intense cramps are back ! I cannot continue to live this way. My doctor suggests a partial hysterectomy. I'm not sure what to do !

I had my endometrial ablation done in September 2016, my periods stopped until June 2017 but the pain has never stop. The doctors have all said the pain is nothing to do with my menstrual cycle. But o know for a fact it is. Stomach and back cramps, pain in my groin down my legs.

Having an ablation does not get rid of the pain. It only controls the bleeding. I just had an ablation with novasure and a d&c and also a tubal at the same time. My doctor told me there's a small chance the lining could come back later down the road. For some women it doesn't come back but there's always a small chance it can. for those of you who had it done to control the pain during your period, someone told you the wrong information. Ablations are not for pain control.

I am having thevsane issues as everyine above. I am 50. I am ready to see what my ootions are and ut sounds like a partial hysterectimy is the best option. I would like to know what everyone here decides to do.

I had the ablation about 6 years ago. Today, the cramps are unbelievably horrible. I have stopped bleeding altogether, and that was immediately following the procedure.

I wish center would share their findings with doctors around the country. I just can't go to N.Y.

I have very heavy periods which my doctors believe is the cause of my anemia. I'm 38, I also have RA, so I'm on both methotrexate and Enbrel. I was sick and in pain with the RA for 2 years before I was diagnosed. Which may make me a bit extra cautious. I went through hell not knowing what was wrong with me and several doctors and countless tests! Anyway my doctors want to get the bleeding under control as the iron supplements are not getting my iron & Ferritin high enough. They think this will continue to be a problem for me until I can bleed less. I bleed through a super plus tampon in an hour. My ob/gyn discussed mirena and nova sure as her 2 reccomendations for me. She was leaning toward mirena, explaining that a small percentage of people that have ablation, have blocked blood behind the uterus scarring, that can cause complications. I'm glad she is aware of what it sounds like many of you have experienced. I didn't want hormones as my pcp was against me going on hormones when I don't need them (dh had vasectomy). Now, after reading about what the trapped blood actually causes and in so many women, I don't want to go there! I have been trying to get the iron under control for nearly 2 years and supplementation isn't doing enough. I can have an iron infusion which will help boost my levels, but if I continue to bleed heavily each month it will not be a viable solution in the long term. Where can I learn more about mirena and if this is a good option for me? I appreciate this candid discussion so that those of us who have not made a decision yet, have all of the info so we can make an educated decision.
