Hi Girls

I have the same symptoms i only get pain on the first day and its so bad that i use to throw up, dizzy, pain up my back and down my legs, as well as blurred vison....

I have not found anything to stop the cramps from occuring but, i found out that the dizzy, vomiting and blurred vision was because i was taking medication that contained codeine..

Inow take a chemist brand period pain that does not contain codeine, its so much better then panadine advil and all the other popular brands...

I have similar symptoms. Ridiculous pain not in my abdomen but in my pelvic area, I beg to be knocked out, really achy thighs, slight achy arms. Extreme nausea that won't stop, diarrhea, crazy fatigue, pale skin, really cold to the touch hands and feet, sensitive to drafts of any kind. I can't function at all. I would take all of the symptoms if I could just get rid of the pain. It goes on for hours and hours; at the time it seems there is no end in sight. But only on the first day. This problem started from my second period and continues to this day. It's been almost 20 years and no one will take me seriously. They just keep giving me stupid ibprophen and c**p. If that was all I needed then I wouldn't be going to the emergency room. I've gone to ob/gyn after ob/gyn with no results. They just do a basic exam, say we can't find anything wrong, say it's part of being a woman, try to give me more ibprophen. I've tried every painkiller you can imagine with no real results. Heat works to take the edge off sometimes. But my cycle is irregular so getting in front of it is hard. And even when I'm fortunate enough to be able to at best I'm still crying in pain and dysfunctional. I want to know what this is! Birth control is not a great option. It has side effects, cancer runs in our family, and I'm at the age that I want to try to have kids. I'm at my wits end.

on my fist day from as long as having my period I can remember, I've had menstrual pains, and now it just seems to be getting worse with back pain, throw up, stomach, etc. All I can do is take pain killers each time and hot water bottle or heat patch. It definitely ruins my day. But, I don't know any other way to help cure it? I'm not allowed to take birth control pills of that sort...yet I don't really want to...unless there's no other way? Is there anything else that I can do or can help so that I don't have to stop my day once a month just for pms???

Just this morning I woke up in severe agony with my period. I took two soluble pain killers and went back to bed only for the pain to get worse. Within a few minutes I was screaming out for my mam and sister to come in to me. I couldn't help but cry and scrunch up into a ball on my bed. I felt like i needed an ambulance. I felt really sick and ran to the toilet and vomited. I had really bad shakes and my stomach, my lower back and my thighs were in severe pain. My mam was really worried and was running around panicing. 2 hours later the pain was just begining to ease and I eventually fell asleep. I'm really worried, i'm only 16 and this is the third time this has happened. It seems to only happen on the first day of my period. The rest of my period I have no pain at all. I'm booked in to see my GP on Monday morning but if there is any information of why this is happening I would love to know, Thanks.

I have the same problem and it's caused by my endometriosis. (And endometriomas) One of the treatments for that it actually birth control pills. Make sure and ask your doctor to check into that. If you have endometriosis and it is moderate to severe you may need surgery to laser off the growths. Especially if you ever want children. If you don't want children then you can just go on the pill but will most likely experience infertility later on. My first doctor didn't even mention this to me and only suggested going on the pill.

This thread makes me feel better about my period knowing I'm not the only one having cramps that make you cry and scream and puke and miss work. Male doctors usually aren't sympathetic to how much of a horrible ideal this can be to go through. I haven't found anything that works. I can go on birthcontrol, but in a few months the symptoms come back, or my period will start coming every other week. What concerns me is this:

If it is depo-vera it will make you miss your periods which is nice because there is less pain, but you WILL gain weight. And sometimes a lot. This shot really messes with your hormones and I don't suggest anyone to take it that is under 30 or hasn't had childeren. Womens bodies constantly change and grow until about 25 years of age, and the shot definitly takes it own toll in how you develope. I know a lot of women perfer to "skip" thier periods but this really is not natural or healthy. I went on the shot twice, years apart, and both times have had issues with being on it, and then gettting off of it. My period started coming every other week the first time I got off the shot, after not having one for 9 months. I suggest finding a woman OBGYN, and talking in depth about your symptoms before just hopping onto birth control to "fix" the cramps and such. It can be a sign of an underlying issue that won't be seen if you go onto birth contorl.

Hey I'm 22. I first started my period when I was about 13 but I didn't start having cramps until I was about 15. I didn't get on the pill until I was 16 but then after I turned 18 I was off of it. Thats when they got worse. exercise never helps. I know I eat plenty of protein. I've even gone as far as trying to eat as balanced as possible. The only thing I know for sure is that when I'm emotionally stressed my cramps are the worst. I only cramp on the first day of my period and I can't do anything when they hit. Usually I get a head ache, diarrhea, hot flashes, heavy bleeding, and I feel fatigued. My aunt told me that I might be anemic since it runs in my family but I dont think thats the case seeing as how no one else in my family has a history of cramps. So I really dont know where that leaves me...

Hiya, sorry you guys are suffering the same thing, although good to know it's not just me... I'm 18 and began periods at 12 but didn't suffer with extreme cramps, throwing up, dizziness, diarrhea and tiredness until last year which I found wierd. The other wierd thing is that pain only last for 2 hours, 3 most and then I'm perfectly fine. I was taking birth control (pill) but had to come off it as I'd had a reaction to it, so that's out of the question. Although it did cross my mind whether coming off it actually caused the pain seeing as it only started the month after stopping the pill. There was an article out recently stating one cause could be Endometriosis which is where the lining of the womb ends up in the wrong place, and another stating that the pain could be either Primary dysmenorrhea or secondary - it looks likely to be Primary though - Heading off for tests soon so should be interesting to get an answer. In my experience male doctors don't understand that it can't be cured by ordinary painkillers and rest or gentle excersise, I can't even keep painkillers down when I get this way and that not all women know when their cycle is because they can be erratic (hence why I was on the pill to begin with), my advice would be to find a woman doctor or maybe go to the hospital (A&E) if someone can drop you off when you're in this state - hard to do when vomitting and diarrhea but would be worth it as the docs can see the state you're in first hand and you don't have to feel stupid trying to explain how bad they are when you look fine, for me, even an few hours after the episode. :)

Hey. I haven't gotten my period yet, but what you said is excactly what i'm going through!! What I do to calm down the pain is eat advil, put a heat pad on my lover back, and take a nap. (The advil makes you feel drowsy.) When you wake up, you feel so great. Or, you can take a warm bath. Put warm water, close your eyes, and relax. It soothes you. However, if you feel that your pain is to a great extent over normal pains, then i'd suggest visiting a doctor, or speaking to someone who has had periods for a long time that is very wise in the works of the period pains (lol). Hope I helped!!

Vitamin B is supposed to help for cramping and regilarity. When I take it my period is always more regular and the pain is minimal, but when I forget to take it for a month I can always tell because my symptoms worsen, so try the vitamin B for two months and just see if there is any improvement.

I was like this too, go back to your doctor and ask to go on a different brand of the pill. As soon as i was on a brand that suited me better, my bleeding was much more manageable.

I'm so glad i found this post, its good to know I'm not the only one who feels like this. Every time i would look up something about it i wouldnt really find anything. I'm 17 and I get horrible cramps only on the first day of my period and is been like this pretty much ever since i started. I get diarrhea, i feel nauseous, my thighs will ache, i will get extremely hot and start to sweat, i get really pale, and i'll feel like im about to pass out if i don't lay down right away. I'll be in pain for about 20 second and then the pain will ease up for maybe 10 seconds and it will keep doing this for about an hour or so. On my last period i thought i was going to have to go to the hospital the pain so bad. i told my doctor about my cramps and she told me to take ibuprofen and i just stared at her, no on really understands how bad these are except my mom because she used to get them too. She also asked me if i wanted to try birth control for my cramps and i said yes, but i haven't gotten a chance to take them yet so i don't know if they help or not. The only thing i have ever found that helped me was to take a half of vicodin, i hate taking any kind of pain medication unless i absolutely have to, but when i get these cramps i just want to be knocked out. i've tried to prevent the cramps from coming on by taking ibuprofen the night before i'm about to start but i don't think that really helps, and when i get them i'll put a heating pad on my stomach and that seems to take the edge off a tiny bit, and i try to stay away form caffeine about a week before my period. Does anyone have any other tips when they get these cramps?
