A good friend of mine gave me this "Difflam C" to gargle every hour...it numbs the pain for me when nothing else did.

The reason is because the saline salt solution helps sanitized and disinfect the area, and the water in large quantities
helps combine to wash leftover bacterial matter....This process usually stops the pain in a few days. ?
Good luck!! (Reference: My moms a nurse)

I had this and read the first few points on this post. I had an extra symptom which was when i stroked the hairs (small trimmed beard) under the spot where it hurt in my throat I would feel acute pain as if the hairs were involved. As I often suffer from ingrown hairs that I pull out on a regular basis and cause minor infections that cause spots I thought perhaps this was what was making the throat pain infection. I yanked the hairs out around that point and one slightly larger one came out and the pain relaxed some. There is still alittle in throat pain but less than before and i can stroke my beard again.

If you have what they say, then you have tonsil stones. They are bacteria built up because your tonsils are failing to be proper filters for your body. Hydrogen Peroxide is safe to gargle. Do a shot 1:1 of peroxide and water. My doctor told me to do this and even perscribed the perxide lol. My throat had a suddle soarness and made it difficult to breath. They went away after a month or two. I only get them occasionally now.

I was going to suggest the same thing. The tonsil stones themselves are probably causing the scratchy feeling as they irritate your throat. When you swallow food it sometimes clears them out. I would suggest gargling after eating to rinse food away from the tonsils. Add salt and baking soda or diluted Peroxide. Sometimes a damp Q-tip can be used to gently wipe them away if you can see them.
