Have any of you ever considered emotional stress? The mind is a master at expressing its emotions through your body. You might not even be aware of this cause, because it is mostly repressed emotions from the past or the unconscious repression of emotions in the present. Even the cycle of focussing on your symptoms can keep those symptoms alive.

You can get a head ache from stress, you can get a bad stomach from stress, painful stiff neck, joint pain, ibs, belly pain, you'll be surprised to find out what can. The near the belly button pain is also connected to a triggerpoint in your abdominal muscle (rectus abdominis). And triggerpoints are most often the result of.... emotional stress...

search the net for triggerpoints rectus abdominis and look at the symptoms, I bet at least half of you will recognize the symptoms.

also search mindbody symptoms or tms to find out how to handle this

I also have this pain on the left side of my belly button, about an inch to the vertical left. I have had this for a number of years and have complained, to no avail, to my doctor many times. I have had many tests done also to no avail. My thought is this, I wonder if it could be my iliac artery, that is the only thing in that area, other then intestines, which they say are fine. When I get this pain it usually happens when I am sitting hunch over for long periods of time but once the pain develops it is sharp and lasts for a few hours to days and the pain is worse with each heartbeat. When I press on the area it hurts more....and after a day or so is a generally sore area on top of the sharp pain....jeans seem to aggravate it also.

Why...can you explain that?

I have research your thought and #1 I have no back pain and #2 the adrenal glands are much higher then where I am experiencing my pain. I am not fatigue, nor do I have any symptoms associated with adrenal issues. But thank you for your thought...I am willing to hear whatever people have to say and research the thought. Thanks again!

How many of you have anxiety or panic disorder? I've had every abdominal discomfort and pain and pressure imaginable and the doctor's can't find anything wrong. I have anxiety and panic attacks, which are known to cause abdominal and gastrointestinal issues and when the physical symptoms occur, it increases the anxiety and continues the cycle. I'm not a doctor, by far and believe me, I'm not saying that this is the problem, but anxiety/panic can cause IBS, which can mimic symptoms of Chron's, Celiac, as well as Colon Cancer. It can cause weight loss/gain and a heap of other physical symptoms. Your mind can do some pretty terrifying physical things. For three nights, I woke up with my guts vibrating. It wasn't until I tried to relax and realize that it was due to nocturnal panic attacks, that the vibrations went away. Anxiety/panic can cause GERD symptoms, acid reflux symptoms, ulcers, gas, constipation, fatty stools, diarrhea..... The list goes on and on. Like I said, I'm not saying that this IS the answer, but if the doctors can't seem to find anything wrong, maybe you need to evaluate the stress in your life.

I just got back from the ER after visiting with many of the symptoms that have been described.  28yr Male 72" 195lbs

Symptoms - Sharp pain about an inch or two both left and below my belly button.  It hurts when I breath deep, sit up, twist, stand up, lean back, cough, sneeze, and laugh.  No fever, nausea, vomiting.  It is very tender to touch.  I've had a kidney stone before, which is extremely painful, but this wasn't far behind on the pain scale at times.  I do have mild acid reflux.  Also, stress levels are probably much lower than average.

My first thought was that I was constipated because I was experiencing hard stool on and off the past month.  I took some Milk of Magnesia and it gave me diarrhea.  It was probably 95% water, but it at least made the chances of something being blocked less likely.  After that was ruled out I thought it could be a hernia or something more severe, so I went to the ER.

The hospital did bloodwork and took a CT scan.  I was diagnosed with epiploic appendagitis.  I had never heard of it.  The name sounds scarier that it really is.  Its just inflamed appendages in my colon.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epiploic_appendagitis

No real cause is known.  I was surprised to hear that diet has little to do with it.  Also, no treatment for it.  I was prescribed some decent pain killers to make it through the 4-14 days that it typically stays inflamed.  Hopefully, its closer to the 4 since I'm only 2 days into this ordeal.

I thought I should share my story since I was on here looking for answers earlier.  I don't think anyone should draw conclusions based on my diagnosis.  Epiploic appendagitis is rare.  Please see a doctor if you are experiencing similar symptoms.  I was advised to return immediately if my conditions worsen or if I start to see additional symptoms like bloody stool.

Hi Guys and Gals,

Seems I can relate to all of you, I can't say how long the pain has been coming and going, maybe a year or two! I have had diahrrea for about fourteen years, since I came home from a two month trip to Israel! I use everything I can get to help that and I was thinking I took something to harm my intestines? I have had a colonospy, blood test etc., no result. I am seeing my doc today, I was thinking the pain may be in my intestines, diverticulities!

Best to each of you in finding your answer! Josie
