Anthony,
You need to drink plenty of water and check for stuff in your belly button; deep in there. What I've found for myself is that it's most likely a combination of dehydration, and foreign objects deep in your button; foreign objects that irritate the nerve that passes just behind it. Also remember that you can be dehydrated without necessarily feeling thirsty.

The dehydration is a factor that comes into play with the Median Umbilical Ligament becoming dried out and shriveling up. This in turn (since it is connected with your bladder) causes tightening of the bladder, which in turn (since your bladder is connected to your urethra) causes tightening and pain in the lower extremities of your genitals, via your urethra.

Try to drink a lot of water every day, and clean out your button.
Good Luck

I'm 17 male, have this exact pain. It only comes and goes im going to say every 4-6 weeks but when it comes it hurts a lot and makes me hunch over, almost like there's a string there and when I try to lean straight it hurts more then ever and the pain feels like it's going down to my penis/testicles. Sometimes when It hurts and I have to go to the bathroom and do go to the bathroom it makes it hurt, stretching when it's acting up KILLS. I've told the doctor and I got an ultrasound but they saw nothing, and since its something that's off and on.. Anyone get this figured out?

I am 37 years old and female. I've had this since I was a kid. I finally figured out that when I wear pants the day before that are tight on my waist, the next day it hurts like heck when I pee! It's sharp and it bends me over. It usually last one day then it's gone. I have had so many antibiotics. It's not an infection!

Hi there! Just a heads up from someone who has experienced this horrid pain many many times... While it is also a symptom of a hernia, almost everytime time you will feel this it's caused by a overextended bladder, and luckily nothing serious. Your body has certain defenses against when you mistreat it, like blacking out is supposed to stop you from drinking more alcohol so you don't die of alcohol poisoning. This is similar, but much less severe. When we don't have a "I have to pee right now!" Sensation, we don't go. Even though we should. The reason the nerve hits your clitoris too is because the same nerves attached to your bladder are mere centimeters (if that!) from your clitoris. And the clitoris is just a bunch of nerves. If you think you have something serious, go to a doctor! If this only happens every so often... go pee more frequently. :)

when I was 7 years old I had an umbilical hernia now I'm 20 for about the past four or five years I get this pain in my belly button that goes all the way to the head of my penis it is absolutely excruciating I've gone to the doctor numerous times and even the hospital and they always tell me nothing is wrong they have even sent me for ultrasounds where they thought they might have seen intussusception of the bowel. my family doctor is a 50+ year old woman who is an absolute c**t she told me that nothing is wrong and I need to get on with my life which pisses me off because I continued working through all the pain anyway. and now I'm kind of at a loss for what to do the pain is getting worse and worse especially with my job. any ideas aside from getting a new family doctor

Hello, all! I, too, have experienced this pain. Belly button to groin, string-like, tearing pain that I experience after I stretch. It occurs perhaps once every few months. I visited a doctor about the problem a year ago or so, and they said they have no idea what it could be. I pressed for anything that might help, and my doctor said it might be thinness in the wall of the abdomen. She said a possible remedy would be to find an elastic band, the kind that people use for back support. The constriction on the abdomen might provide relief. I went to a few drug stores, and found just such an elastic band. Its about 6 inches wide, and a few feet long. I wrap it around my lower abdomen when this pain flares up. Though it doesn't completely make the pain go away, it does allow me to more or less walk normally and without pain, and it seems to help the pain go away more quickly. Just to further clarify for everyone, I've had this pain long before I got my period (I'm female), and I have had no children. No surgeries. I hope the elastic band thing helps! I don't know what actually causes this, though.

Just like everyone else on this thread, I have experienced the same problem. Me, my dad and my son have the same issue. When I was 10, over 20 years age, Dr. Pasquarelli, Native American doctor, had told my mom what my problem was and prescribed me a bottle of nasty medicine; green in color, but it worked within 30 minutes. I get the pain when I eat certain foods such as chocolate, corn, citrus, milk eggs ect. My belly button will hurt weeks later. When it hurts I have to lay in a fetal position and try to sleep it off. Stretching and urinating makes it worse and it will usually begin hurting after I urinate, when it do hurt. My mom forgot what my condition is so I hope somebody will be able to find out!

I've just had another episode. When it hits me it feels like a sharp pain that radiates between my belly button and my testicles. It hurts so bad that I have to stand completely still because any movement will cause the pain to worsen. It normally only last for several seconds and goes away as if nothing ever happened. This time the pain stuck around a little longer. I've been experience this for a very long time. I was very active in sports in high school and also played college football. I was having issues then but doctors couldn't figure out what was happening. I am 36 years old now and this is really starting to drive me nuts!!!! It happens maybe 5 or 6 times a year. My naval gets really sore during the episodes but when the pain stops the tenderness goes away.

Hi I'm a 14 year old girl and I experience this pain about 2 times a year and it really sucks. But last time I had to go to the hospital because the pain was to much. The doctors told me that I was dehydrated . So to everyone who has this problem I would say to drink a lot of water!

I thought I had some sort of alcohol poisoning, the first time this happened was a day or two ago after a big drinking session, thought I was going to die.. I picked my brother up which caused some strain and the same pain you are all describing occured, went for a wee, it happened again, stood up from the sofa, it happened again.. Was a painful couple hours but it's gone now :O

I have some of the same symptoms, I have been diagnosed with IC, I feel like I'm in labor half the time and or being stabbed by a butcher knife, sex can be very painful but I'm lucky, my hubby understands. Trying to find a doctor that will help with the pain has been impossible.

Im 17 years old and this has been happening to me for about 4 years now off and on. I found something on the internet that suggests it might be a pinched nerve at the bottom of your spine and regular stretching will help. I found this answer about a year ago and cant seem to find it now but this seems like the most plausible reason in my opinion
