I'm 17 and i have been getting sharp knif feeling pains in the lower right side of my stomach, down by my impendex area. the pain will move up and down but never side to side. Iv had this pain for about 6 years and no one can figure it out. when the pain comes I jump so high cause of the pain. Does anyone have an idea?
My sister had bowel infection and sinus infection. The doctor said the sinus infection caused the bowel infection. After taking antibiotics, she is feeling much better!
Has anyone found an answer to this problem?
I had my last child 3 yrs and 1 month ago. I had a complication that made my c-section incision rupture. I would begin to feel the pain as I brushed my teeth and would cough. I would feel it during sex. It started off feeling like a strained muscle that made me stop moving for 1-2 minutes. Last year it got a little worse and I went to the doctor. I've had a cat scan, colonoscopy, and multiple ultrasounds, including pelvic ultra sounds. I've also noticed that I haven't been able to get pregnant (not that I've tried, but I know that we've had moments where I should have been pregnant). I gave up on seeking medical advice because it's discouraging to always hear that nothing can be found. I would feel a dull pain in my abdominal area on the right side. I would also feel something when I lay on my stomach or right side. Within the last month, I laughed and felt a sharp pain. Now (and I'm on my menstrual cycle) I have a moderate to strong pain in the same place I've always had it at. I find myself taking medication and it's not helping.
in the case of someone that has had abdominal surgery (the woman with the C-section) you have to think of adhesions. This is scar tissue that kinds of makes your insides stick together. Endometriosis also comes to mind.
One thing that nobody mentioned in kidney stone. sharp stabbing pain low down on the right or left could be from a small stone that is stuck in the ureter before it reaches the bladder. many stones pass relatively unoticed if they are small enough. If you are also having pain in the middle of your back, to the right or left of the spine...also could be kidney stone. So for the original poster with the mid back pain and the lower quadrant pain that is something to think about.
And finally, for any woman that experiences this stabbing, intermittent, knife like pain in the middle of your cycle it is called Mittelschmerz pain. The ovary forms a small cyst around the ripening ovum and it ruptures, propelling it to the fallopian tube.

Hello, I have been having these same pains for close to three years, I have had ct scan done because they thought it was my appendix, then they did the whole gall bladder test, ultra sound the the test with dye. Was told that my gall bladder had sludge yes that was the term they used in it and i needed to see a gi doctor. I went and saw my gi because I have had diverticulous about 4 years ago. Which was on the left side. I have had two c sections and 2 nautral births with the last two being c sections and the last one was 6 years ago. I am still having the same pain in my lower right side near the ovary. I even have pin point down to I wear it starts about a week before my period during my period and sometimes up to a week after. I had an ultra sound a year ago and been working with doctor my new doctor for over a year to figure this out. The end of October she started me on birthcontrol which is weird for me since I had my tubes tieds but to see if it would help with the pains. I had no period for november or december and then right before christmas pains started again very sharp and worse then I had in long time. Now I have been having a period for almost three weeks now and it started as spotting then light and now semi heavy with large clotting. Suppose to be having a new ct down and just had blood work done. I getting very tired of these pains and now answers. I am glad to know that i am not the only out there. I hope that we find out something soon and if i do i will repost again with what we find. If any one has any more ideas please comment. Good luck to every one with this same problem.

I had it come 3 times on a row a few days ago and im sick of no one knowing what it is. Its painful and annoying. please anything would be helpful
I have had it for the lst 7 years
I posted earlier on this site about undiagnosed pain. I just want to remind women about seeking just one more professional for undiagnosed pelvic pain - a reproductive endocrinologist. Endometriosis is a condition that cannot be found by ultrasounds, cat scans or any other such test. Although mostly in the uterus area-it can be found anywhere in the body-brain, lung, arm in people of any age. It spreads. It is tissue that spans out like a spider web and connects to other organs. Estrogen is the culprit. It can be surgically removed OR reduced through medication. It causes pain for some, especially when the estrogen in the body is at a high level, which is why the pain can come and go. Some women have it and have no pain. Research has found many causes. Many doctors still give the wrong information about it which is why I suggest going to a specialist.
I have had this sharp stabbing pain in my lower right abdomen for a little over a year now. I've actually seen a doctor and first we found an ovarian cyst. He put me on birth control and that was supposed to stop me ovulating so that I wouldn't get anymore cysts and it would also get rid of the one I had. However, the pain did not go away. I went back and we did another ultra sound but there was no cyst. So then the next question was whether or not I maybe had endometriosis. In order to find out we went in and did a laparoscopy, which is a surgical procedure. Well they didn't necessarily find endometriosis through this surgery but they did find adhesions from when I had my appendix removed when I was 4 years old. That was crazy! He also found something like a black marble that they sent to the lab but it was inconclusive as being anything. A few days after my surgery the pain came back! When I went in for my two week check up the doctor said that I was just recovering from my surgery. Well it's been over a month since my surgery and I have not improved at all. My doctor said I should be getting signficantly better by now.
What should my next step be?
I have the same pain in my lower right abdomen, not gall bladder related as I had mine removed 10 years ago, and that pain was always right under the notch in my ribs. This is a sudden sharp pain in lower abdomen.
I have had my gallbladder removed and a radical hysterectomy and still get the sharp stab-like pain on the extreme lower right abdomen. Sometimes it literally takes my breath away. As yet I haven't found a dr to tell my why. It comes and goes, no reasoning when it does hit. No medical explanation from the 'professionals'.
I had 2 exploratory surgeries, plus a colonoscopy, etc.... they said my problem was Irritable Bowel Syndrome, and yes....it's worse during the beginning of my menstrual cycle, and during stressful times.
I had mine for more than a year and had so many test done and everything came out normal. Some doctors treated as muscle spasms and others as intestinal but nothing could take care of my problem. I finally got tired and decided to check with another doctor and right away he found that i had an hernia in my groin area. Got surgery on it and im currently on rehab and so far none of those pains i felt before have come back. I would consider you get a good phisical exam and have your doctor check that area especially if you are a guy. My hernia was inside of my right testicle but it was not a testicular hernia. Good luck
Check to see that you don't feel pain on lower right abdomen because of your ileocecal valve. I went to a holistic doctor with pain in lower right side and found out I'm gluten intolerant and because of that unaddressed food allergy, my ileocecal valve was inflamed. Your regular MD will probably think you're nuts but it did help me. Also, the book "Never Be Sick Again" by Raymond Francis is very helpful.
I am having the same symptons, and had my gall bladder removed more than 20 yrs ago. I'm actually wondering if it's appendecitis ... I'll check another site, like WebMD or something ...
