I have had both of these cases... it can be an ingrown hair and it could be razor burn. If it's caused by shaving it could be an infection that needs a prescription to get rid of. If you don't shave then its not razor burn and not an ingrown hair.

I'd say better be safe then sorry. Yes they can look like pimples on your face, but if its an infection, it won't just go away like the pimples on your face. It may get worse. See a dr. either way. At least you'll know what it is for sure and why bother worrying?

dont listen to any of this nonsense! except for last post.
it is ingrown hairs, your pubes are curly so when they come out of the skin they curl back inwards and cause almost like a tiny infection that your white blood cells try to get rid of. the bump is cuased by white blood cells and if you leave them alone it should be fine. i have found an amazing potion that seems to help, its called: tend skin.
many black afro haired men get razor bumps on the face.

You are pretty quick to assume that you are right, you are not a doctor. It is not ingrown hairs, it is not razor burn, it is not pimples, go see a doctor and don't listen to anyone on here. I have the same problem and it is none of the above.

sorry but i have to disagree with you when u say go see a doctor. i myself get these, and it only happens when i shave my pubes, after a few days they are gone, and after these few days is when the hairs start showing back through rather then being underneath. the bumps are the hairs growing under that skin and the bumps wont go away until that hair comes through. nothing to worry about, at least there are some people who are smart rather than telling you "omg! pimples near your vagina!? you have a std!"

It is ingrown hairs. I get them all the time from shaving the pubic region. The faster way to get rid of them is the remove the ingrown hairs with tweezers then to clean the area with alcohol. Dont use antibiotic ointment because it can upset the bacteria levels in the area which can lead to Yeast Infections which are unpleasant at best. Dont be scared of tumors or something silly, there are just really ignorant people in this world. And another thing that can help as someone mentioned is to always used a new sharp razor, I know they are expensive but it only takes a couple used to become dull and then you will have much worse pimples.

Hi I'm a 16 year old virgin (by choice), and I use to shave with a regular razor with shaving cream the whole 9 yards and stills had bumps and itchy pimple kinda looking things where my pubes where. So I tried a beard trimmer not the circle things but the razor looking part and just used that to trim and I got pubic area really smooth. Those who have the same thing I did its not an STD but razor burn from shaving with dry skin a friend told me to use a lot of soap I don't think it helped much with the burns. I recently had a pimple looking thing on my shaft and I poped it like a usual pimple and a little pain but not much and it seems to be just like another little peace of being a teenager.

I hear if you use deodorant it is suppose to help...so I would try that. I suffer from this problem too and I just started trying to put deodorant on the area after shaving.

It's just a reaction from the razor, I had the same problem and recently shaved completely bald once again with a razor, some people call those things sists or siss or however it is spelt. Ressembles a pimple, puss comes out and it will also bleed. Nothing serious, but if you shave alot and it's annoying to you, go see a doc or dermatologist and see what they can do for you. There's definitely something to prescribe.

My conern is that I started getting them around my bikini line AFTER I gave up shaving/waxing in that area (just laziness) so... ingrown hairs? Could it be?

I', 17 and I have the same thing... it looks quite a bit like a razor burn infection. I never saw any of the symptoms I have until, yes, of course bikini season rolled around and I shaved for the first time in my life. At first I thought I had a disease... And then I realized that they were merely infected ingrown hairs... I would usually use a needle to drain them, but that didn't work all of the time. Eventually I turned to using rubbing alcohol and that helped bring down a lot of the infection. It was painful but it worked. I can't say whether or not everyone on this forum has the same thing as I, but it surely sounds like it. Either way I recommend using rubbing alcohol on it once or twice a day... Sometimes it won't totally cure it, but it helped me a TON.

I've had this problem before after shaving my pubic area and I went to the doctor. She said it is called folliculitis, an infection of the hair follicles. It is likely caused by a knick in the skin and a bacteria that normally lives on the skin, such as staph, enters and can cause pimples that look like zits. Also, it can cause boils which are hard and very painful. The best thing to do is to get antibiotics from your doctor, but also you could take tylenol for the pain, clean the area throughly and apply a clean dressing and use an antibiotic cream. You could also apply a warm heating pad if the area is become inflammed and painful. It should eventually clear up within three weeks. Here is a website that has some good info on it.
