Shortness of breath after stopping smoking

Can anybody tell me if shortness of breath after stopping smoking is normal? I am 32 years old, male, smoked 8-9 cigarettes a day for about 15 years. I stopped smoking three weeks ago. I have never been short of breath in my life, however since I stopped smoking, I find myself out of breath, at strange times, even when sitting at rest. Is this just part of stopping smoking?
It seems to be very difficult to find information on the side effects of stopping smoking!
Thanks,
Richard.

Dean try googleing hydrogen peroxide therephy
This H P therapy is simply hydrogen peroxide (food grade] and distilled water no chlorine.. I was really skeptical about breathing in this stuff, but you got to figure if your brave enough to smoke a cigg. with all those chemicals in it, why would it matter if you tried something that possibly help your lungs, So I didn't have food grade but was gonna try this , and the old guy dosnt use food grade, but it is neccesary if you keep using it O K so I mixed some up in some spring water 50/50 brown bottle for boo boos. I blew out all the air I could and slowly breathed and sprayed about 6 fine mists into my lungs, then cleared my throat and felt the tingle in my mouth, gave a few good coughs and bingo big ugly blobs of mucus came up. I did it again 10 mins later and another big blob of mucus came up. I felt a little light headed but I also felt so Energized so nice havnt felt this good in so long. I used it several more times in the next few days. got the cough back a few months later repeated the process got the same great results. Try it what have you to got lose.

did someone know some chemical which dissolves tar in the lungs but not dissolves the lungs?
Because the problem is goblet cells and cilia died so , no muchus can be produced, and the tar sticking on the airways is blocking normal breathing, the reason why we do not feel it is that smal dermal cells stickt on the tar , when we stop smoking the cells start to die and give their place to the regrowing goblet cell witch is producing muchus and remove tar, and cilia witch cleans it out,

O M G another over weight quitter. Its been 110 days for me today, caught a real bad cold last week really made life terrible, havnt been able to get but a couple of hours sleep a night, making it worse. read on another board about peroxide breathing, tried it but no mucus in my lungs. Good luck to all.
I gave up smoking a few years ago, I found it easy, almost to easy. No side effects beyond a craving here and there. But like a fool I went back on them after a year, I blame alcohol. Anyway. Now I am trying to stop smoking again, but this time, it's killing me. Every time I manage to go a day or two I get this terrible shortness of breathe like someone holding a pillow over my face. It feels like I am not getting enough air.
My guess is it's anxiety that seems to come and go in waves, and I feel sick with it. And it gets worse when you're actually thinking about it. I also think caffeine makes the shortness of breathe worse. Tomorrow I am going to start walking for 45+ minutes a day hopefully to see if this can release the anxiety that seems to build up beyond my control. I can handle the craving for a smoke, it's the feeling of not breathing properly, and feeling anxiety that is making me fail every time I try to quit now.
But this time I am going to ride it out and quit, I am always sick from smoking anyway with circulation problems, and random pains in my head, legs, feet, and now I got a nice ear infection and feel like crap. I am willing to go though this torture to one day find a balance where I feel well in the mornings, and not like I've been beaten up when I crawl out of bed. I did manage to quit for a year once, and can confirm that anxiety, breathing problems, and intense carvings to smoke, are not a problem, and I was in fact a much happier, relaxed person who slept far better than I ever did as a smoker.
Don't give in you can beat this addiction, it likes to rule over you by making you feel fear and panic when you try to stop, but that only lasts a short time, if you can make it to 3-6-9-12 months, I guarantee you will start to feel better and better and will not want to smoke after a while. Me I thought I could have a few in the pub with a drink, big mistake as it got me hooked again after a while. Never smoke even one again, it will destroy all your hard work, and make it even harder to quit next time, I know this.
I noticed that when I gave up smoking, the shortness of breath was a lot worse after a night of drinking, and stays bad for 4-5 days. If you are a drinker, who has recently quit smoking, my advice is to stop drinking alcohol until you are feeling well. It took me 3 months of no smoking or drinking to feel really great. But now I can't do either one as even a few drinks leaves me exhausted for days and smoking just cripples me. But I put that down to years of hitting both hard.
Different people react differently to giving up smoking, it can be masking problems that come to a head when you stop, such as a anxiety problem. The only cure is to stay of them long enough until your body adjusts and finds the balance. It can take up to a year to feel normal again after you stop smoking, and you can still get that edgy feeling after that, but it's very infrequent.
Giving up smoking can be very tough depending on how much fear and anxiety you attach to quitting. The best advice is to look after yourself, don't drink alcohol until you are free from the addiction and cravings, and anxiety, and get good sleep so you are at your best each day. Don't eat rubbish food as it will bring your mood down and make you put on weight, and try to get some activity into your day, even if it's just going for a walk for 20 minutes or more if able, or getting on a exercise bike when you are feeling tense or have breathing problems. Drink very little caffeine, until your anxiety is under control. Cut it out of you can, and replace it with water.
And try to avoid high stress situations for the first few months. If you feel yourself getting worked up, walk away from the situation if you can, just literally stop what you're doing and take your mind of it. I found quitting smoking making little problems seem big, but it's just your emotions running wild, all this will clam down in time. Keep your mind occupied with your favourite tv shows, video games, or do something that makes you feel proud, like decorate the house. Start a new healthy eating plan or exercise plan, The worst thing you can do is focus on the breathing problems, and the withdrawal , cravings, they can make you feel like you are losing your mind if you don't snap out of that moment and do something else, think positive. It's a war you are in, and you can win as long as you know the enemies plan of attack, it will try to confuse you, make you panic, lose hope, make you emotional or tired or like you are better off smoking. It's all lies, you will wake up one day and all this will be over, and you will feel far better than you ever did as a smoker, trust me. All you have to do is ignore the games the nicotene is playing with your body and mind, be happy that it's giving you a kicking, it means you are winning the fight, and it will soon be over and done with, and you will never have to go through this again.
Stay calm, relaxed, and just let it wash over you, and remember it will pass, so don't be afraid, it's only temporary and you will feel peace and well being at the end of this ride. Trust me I've been through it, I quit smoking and have no desire to smoke and feel a lot better than I did as a smoker a few years ago. It's well worth the pain you're going through now.
You feel these things because your lung tries too clean it self, and not because you are addicted to smoking!
