Shortness of breath after stopping smoking

Can anybody tell me if shortness of breath after stopping smoking is normal? I am 32 years old, male, smoked 8-9 cigarettes a day for about 15 years. I stopped smoking three weeks ago. I have never been short of breath in my life, however since I stopped smoking, I find myself out of breath, at strange times, even when sitting at rest. Is this just part of stopping smoking? It seems to be very difficult to find information on the side effects of stopping smoking! Thanks, Richard.

I'm at five months now and beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I still occasionally get sob but I recover much quicker. I know in time I will feel healthy again all the time and will thank God every day that I kicked that demon. Keep the faith.
To all of you that have SOB and chest tightness, tel your doctor to have an echo cardiogram with contrast to check for Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO). This is an abnormal hole that connects both auricular, symptoms are all you are describing, up to 25% of population have this without even know, it is potentially lethal
Buy a vape, electronic cigarette, you can find eliquids in several different flavors, nicotine free if you prefer, that way you can sit outside with your husband as if you were smoking. I quit 4 months ago, missed same things, bought a vape, solved!
One thing I´m sure of, I will never, ever, smoke again, even if it does mean death

Yes ive been quitt. For 5 months and now i w a ke up during the night short of breath and jerkying i dont know what this is about but it is scary to me cause this wasnt happening. When i smoked. Please. Help me
Do all your possible test again, make sure everything is right. If so, take it easy, I quit for about 16 weeks, I had pretty bad days, severe SOB, I did all possible preliminary test, nothing wrong with my heart. All this supposedly web sites paid by our taxes to help us, are just garbage, they are mainly made to scare you, to fill the pockets of many politicians by doing nothing, all symptoms they describe fit perfectly with a heart attack, SOB could be anything possible, overweight is one of them, so we are victims, it is not our fault, we pay up to 80% in taxes for every pack, that´s a multi billion dollar business, in return we got nothing, no even serious investigations about symptoms . First of all, it is almost impossible, as a former smoker, to have a heart failure out of the blue sky, you got to have FIRST a problem in your lungs, no the other way around. Secondly, it is normal to have SOB because you are not overloading your lungs, but the brain keeps sending same messages to your lungs ant heart as if you still smoking. If your test came out clear, just calm down, take it easy, use some pills to relax, take time to think in other issues, keep you mind busy
Reading about SOB in wiki and BLF (British Lung Foundation) and according to these web sites, there are 2 option, Lung Cancer or COPD, nothing more, no more options, Do you really believe they are even trying to help anyone? They are killing smokers, by giving this false information
I understand this thread may be a year old or older, but I'm posting anyway. Quit smoking 2 packs a day last 30-35 years. Never felt so ill in my entire life! I'm glad I quit for obvious reasons, long time in coming, but the healing is horrible!. I've joined a gym and went vegan same day. PUll that bandaid off. No fooling around, Gone thru many withdrawl symptoms and the last one is this dang shortness of breath. Had Echogram, Stress Test on Threadmill, all labs (which have drastically improved shocking my Doctor), but...I never had shortness of breath during all my years of smoking. I never had a smokers cough, none now either. Cravings? Of course. Every moment of the day..I went cold turkey...don't believe in patches or pills. Get past the cravings because I'm MUCH stronger than an object with only one intent: to kill me. This shortness of breath is debilitating. Its been about 3 months smoke free..but, c'mon! Enough is enough!
That sounds like sleep apnea.
I have been off a ciggs almost a week and having shortness of breath.. but can workout does anyone know how long shortness of breath last?
I am smoke free from 3 months now and I am still getting SOB daily. Test from Dr all clear just wish this SOB would go away I am ready to feel better.
I'm smoke free for six months and the sob is getting better. I have days where I barely notice it and days when it is still troublesome but at least I see some improvement. I've heard that it can take up to a year so time will tell. I wish I'd never started smoking but I can't turn back time so I will just have to deal with it and be thankful that I finally gave up the nasty habit. I guess there is a price to pay. I think my main advice is patience! It's going to take a while to heal and pat yourself on the back daily for quitting. Good luck.
Yours is the same as mine stopped smoking july13th and shortness of breath here and there w/dry mouth.I thought dehydration as well since I don't like water very much.Good luck to all
Im glad I could stop but feel like I lost my best friend ( carol
