Shortness of breath after stopping smoking

I never developed a cough or mucus so I'm lucky there. All your symptoms are anxiety related. Remember you feel better also because more nicotine and when you smoke is like doing deep breathing exercise. When we quit our breathing is all wacky because we miss that deep breathing when smoking. I use to wake in the middle of the night gasping for air which then caused panic attack. By six months that was all gone but was scary. Try to reduce the ecigs they are bad too. Hang in there and know that it is all related to quitting and stay strong you can beat it. Get mad knowing how stupid we were to even start this and letting the tobacco companies keep us hooked. It took about 4 months for my SOB to subside and a little longer for the anxiety. I was put on anxiety medicine but took myself off of it after my operation. The operation made me realize my anxiety was what it was.....all in my head. I think the doctors are afarid of stepping up against the so called 800 pound gorillas, they know what is going on. I smoked for 26 years but I also think it depends of what brand/kind you somked, your over all diet and your enviornment that dictates your SOB. I have lived on the east side of houston since i moved here in 2005. Even though the west side is more crowded, it is upwind of all of the DUST that travels eastward from all of the VAST gravel parking lots and plants in general. I can dust off my car and whthin 2 days,a thick layer has covered it again. You go to the west side and nothing like it. So i think environment does play a large part along with genitics.  

Only 4 months that is great. I'm almost 11 months and still have a little anxiety and SOB. Guess I just have to wait it out. Keith

I smoked Marlboro lights..... HEY...I HAVE A QUESTION....WHAT IS YOUR OXYGEN SATURATION READING?... YOU KNOW...THE FINGER TEST.

Mine is around 93 to 97 but it should be between 97 and 100 that is when you know your S O B is gone. never below 90

Did you get your OXIMETER ?? do you like it ??

welp...this is how bad mine is...today was the highest it's been for a while...and I believe it's because of the oxygen...today when I went to the doctor's it was 89!  My breathing is so bad it usually is between 80-83...  Still under 90...but today I feel pretty good....I am hoping to keep getting better...  What's ironic is...my husband who was trying to quit smoking with me couldn't do it and now sneaks around oxygen saturation is 100!... I got one...it was not reading correctly....I had to return it and am waiting for my replacement...

He sees what you are going through he def won't quit. Chicken :0) If I would have come across this site before hand and after reading all the posts I may not have quit either. My wife does not smoke so it was not that bad. Keith

Keith...you are right...he doesn't know what to do...and quite frankly...I don't know if I would have quit myself.  Do you know what your oxygen saturation is currently?...

I know the last 2 times I went to the doctor and they tested it was really good. I will have to make note of it the next visit in June for my 1 year anniversary. I plan to have my full physical. What is a really good level?

90's -100!...but my 89 is considered very bad :-(  

wow I guess there is a huge difference between 50 and 89? I just ordered one should have it next week. I have to know now. This stuff is making me nuts :)
