Shortness of breath after stopping smoking

Can anybody tell me if shortness of breath after stopping smoking is normal? I am 32 years old, male, smoked 8-9 cigarettes a day for about 15 years. I stopped smoking three weeks ago. I have never been short of breath in my life, however since I stopped smoking, I find myself out of breath, at strange times, even when sitting at rest. Is this just part of stopping smoking? It seems to be very difficult to find information on the side effects of stopping smoking! Thanks, Richard.

are you taking meds for the SOB?
Hello everone I m back, aND i REALLY DONT KNOW IF MY S O B IS BETTER OR NOT i have been to a few places this summer its been about 438 days for me and some days are o k , but no real great day6, it seems as it has got to a certain poi9nt of recovery and just stopped getting better, but really dont know . going to doc this week for a check up will keep you posted..... THANKS RALPH
Good to see you are back. Have you gone to a pulmonologist? If so did they see the start of COPD or emphysema? I hope not and maybe it is just taking your lungs a long time to heal. Angel123 has improved as well as myself and now at 14 months. I still have some bad days a few a week. Keith
Nothing...it just slowly began resolving itself....thank g-d! Angel
yes i went todaty had a cat scan everthing looks good, he did say it can take up to a couple of years.
That is good news. Guess we need to just hang in there and hope that it will get better over time. I can't see this this hanging around too much longer. I think back last Sept 2 months into my quit and I was a mess compared to today. It's just a slow process. In my case, when I get SOB it kicks my anxiety in which makes things worse. Thank God it's only a few days a week at this point. It use to be 24/7..
Been 9 months now and things are way better now with anxiety and sob. I thought it would never end....but it will. I feel so much better now. My stamina had increased almost beyond my hopes. I'm actually buying a mid level crosstraining bike tomorrow so me and my 12yr old daughter can ride together. I do have an occasional anxiety attack but they are very short lived. Reason being I guess is because the amount of stairs I climb ( I do refinery contracts), if I did have a heart problem, it would have presented it self by now....so knowing that helps.
That is great to hear. Lets keep posting our progress. I'm almost at 15 months myself and much better. Still have some anxiety which triggers the SOB but only a few days a week now..Keith
Today makes 440 days for me, my anxiety is out of control, my oxygen level is 96 and it still feels like I need more which I know I dont, even my doctor says its just anxiety, but it makes you feel as though your gonna die if you dont get more oxygen, crazy isn" t oh well i dont even -pay attentionj to it any more, I know i m fine I hope everone else is feeling better. THANK S RALPH
You described exactly how I felt 2 days ago. My oxygen was 96 and my SOB was nuts which I really believe is triggered from anxiety. I really think that our lungs are fine at this point and this is all caused by anxiety. Yesterday and today I feel great no SOB no anxiety so I will take it. Like I said before, this only happens a few times a week now and usually does not last a whole day. To think in the beginning I use to feel SOB 24/7. I have come a long way and will just keep getting better. You will to Ralph hang in there and like you said, the less you pay attention to it the less it will happen. Keith
