Shortness of breath after stopping smoking

Can anybody tell me if shortness of breath after stopping smoking is normal? I am 32 years old, male, smoked 8-9 cigarettes a day for about 15 years. I stopped smoking three weeks ago. I have never been short of breath in my life, however since I stopped smoking, I find myself out of breath, at strange times, even when sitting at rest. Is this just part of stopping smoking?
It seems to be very difficult to find information on the side effects of stopping smoking!
Thanks,
Richard.

Hello so sorry to hear your having a rough time ! Yes it's very much the case one good day followed by many bad, I myself have been in the house for weeks although I'm also just diagnosed with gerd, waiting for my gallbladder out and in menopause ! So not sure what symptom is from where with me lol I do find this forum very comforting though, I like everyone who googled sob after smoking thought i was dying I know it sounds dramatic but I did get myself in such a state with anxiety over it but finding people to talk to who have had these experiences calms your mind ! I have had the nightmares in the first 6 weeks but they have gone mine where very detailed very horrible and I kept waking up with no breath at all so scary ! smoking has a lot to answer for and as much as I enjoyed it I won't lie lol, I would never put myself through all this again ! Also I found hot steamy room helped makes you cough and expel the nasty stuff ! Keep in touch we can keep each other going strong
It's Kerry by the way for some reason it's taken my name off !

You poor sausage - what the heck is "gerd"???? And to have gallbladder removal and menopause too... arghghghh! I don't know how you cope! Well done. Still trying to cough or get some nasty stuff up - will try hotter and longer baths... I still can't believe how active I was when I smoked, how I never coughed, wheezed or had SOB... but this is pure hell. I wish I could write to you (and others) privately (either by email or FB)... is this possible? Have a good day sweety! xxxx

The cravings for me are completely gone. So much so that i don't like being around them. The fear of death washed that away.Sounds like Angel is doing better. Yes. Please tell me did you go back to normal? It has been a month for me. I am short of breath after stairs.
Hi it does get better I'm 4 months now and have more good days than bad just remember it's your body repairing itself and try to relax and breathe deeply
I'm 3 months into quitting and i have shortness of breath sometimes from just getting dressed. Wheezing also! And when I do cough which isn't very much. ...I cough up clear phlegm with flecks of brown. Normal? I've heard it is! It's giving me some anxiety and I feel so alone in this struggle!
Hi there yes it very normal, try drinking hot water with lemon and honey for the cough it really helps ! It also helps thin the mucus and makes it easier to expel, the honey soothes the throat which does get sore from all the coughing, but hang in there it does get better ! I smoked for 30 years and also have asthma too so I know how scary sob feels, for the anxiety Drs gave me tablets but the seriously spaced me out and I hated the feeling of been out of control so I stopped googling symptoms and frightening myself to death, play some mediation music in your bedroom at night on an iPod or the like it really helps me sleep, also try lavender hot streamy baths to relax, please don't feel alone there are people going through the same as you, please read the forum from start to finish it's very comforting to know your not alone in how you feel xxx I will be here to support you if you need it that is :) keep strong xx Kerry
Thank you....it's good to know I'm not alone on this journey!!
