it not only occur in alcohol drinking but also typically Sprite and Coke.I'm an internist but never read such symptoms before during my medical training but I do have such problems.I think it could be due to the gas which cause duodenum bloated and compressing the gallbladder or surrounding nerves which is well-known that gallbladder disease related pain could radiate to right shoulder. However,my experience is that the pain affect both shoulders with right shoulder predominates.

This happens to me too.... pain across collar bone, shoulders and sometimes into neck.... or down into elbows.. ironically I love dry red wine and it never happens when I drink that... but does happen sometimes with "sweet drinks" like flavored rum and some sweet craft beers... interesting to say the least..it does not happen to me all the time when i drink those things.. so it makes me suspect it is a condition of my body before hand

Me too. Beer and wine are the only shoulder pain free libations. I have had this for 20 years. People looked at me as if I was nuts when I said I can't drink alcohol it makes my shoulder hurt. The ache is enough to make me worry that there is something serious about it that will come up later in life. Ugh.

Wow ... I am just over 40, been drinking various types of alcohol for decades ... And JUST experienced this for the first time. Glad to know I'm not alone because this is just nuts. This happens to me when I drink ginger beer. Only ginger beer. I haven't had this issue with regular beer, wine, hard alcohol, hard cider, or anything else. I get pain in back, right arm, chest, right collar bone. I feel like adrenaline is pumping. I feel nauseous. Then about 20 min later I'm fine. Even after I drink more. It is SO baffling.

I'm so glad to have found this forum! I've been having this since I was 18 and I'm now 23. I went to my doctor who looked at me as if I was just some sort of alcoholic. She gave me omeprazole tablets for stomach acid and it has helped a bit as in the pain doesn't always happen now. Also does anyone have extreme nausea at the end of the night/the next day after this happens? I used to vomit all day and still often do if I haven't taken my tablets

I think it's an allergy or sensitivity to sulphites. You mentioned shellfish and I have read that prawns apparently cannot be tolerated by many people with sulphite sensitivity. I am 52 and have been drinking all kinds of alcohol since I was about 18 and only over the past few years have I started to notice an agonising pain in my right shoulder and a tight chest when I drink pear cider which is about the only alcoholic drink I like any more, apart from red wine. The pain goes away gradually after about 20 minutes. Tonight I had a couple of glasses of red wine followed by a pear cider and I suddenly got a terrible ache in my right shoulder and between my shoulder blades accompanied by breathlessness and a tightness in my chest. I had to walk about and get fresh air and use an asthma inhaler. The pain went away after about half an hour. The breathlessness was worse than usual but I have hay fever at the moment and have recently been prescribed an inhaler for possible asthma. I now feel fine. I have read it's sulphites so affects a lot of fruit-based drinks.

I've had this happen before, and told somebody about it, and they just laughed at me. Just had it happen about an hour ago, that is why I looked it up. I sat on the floor for about 30 minutes in a ball because it hurt so bad. Always happens with fruity drinks, never beer. Glad I'm not the only one.
