Am amazed that so many people have similar symptoms, strangely I never expected that. I suffer badly a few times a year with dire hangovers - am in bed all day being sick every 20 minutes or so. It doesn't take much, 3-4 drinks, and it seems totally unpredictable, sometimes I get away with it, hence continuing to drink. The only thing that sometimes works (towards the end of a long day of being sick) is piping hot tea with sugar or plain vanilla ice cream. Alka seltzer also works sometimes if you can sit or lie very still for 30-60 mins after you take it and resist the urge to be sick (which is hard). I am drinking less and less however a the memory of these dreadful hangovers is really discouraging me. If someone developed a cure for this they would make a lot of money!

I have been having the same problem for the last 2 years. I'm 33, and used to never have hangovers unless I really overdid it (like on my bday).

2 years ago I returned to the US from living abroad and started taking Prevacid OTC (I was going without it for years and really needed it for over production of acid in my stomach). After starting to take it again these hangovers slowly began and got worse. I had all-day hangovers from only 3 beers. It ruined my social life because I became really paranoid about drinking more than 2 drinks. My doctor told me that I'm getting old, and that it was just normal. I had almost completely given up about this, but a month ago I switched from Prevacid to the Walgreen Generic Brand, which is also Lansoprazole, but has other slight differences. I made the switch just becuase it was cheaper, so I figured I'd try it out. Since making the switch I haven't had any hangovers, and I've been drinking normally again. I'm still paranoid though because I had 2 years of horrible punishment from the horrible hangovers.

I hope that some of you will try switching to another brand and aslo find relief.

I'm and 18 year old female and I have this same problem! The next morning after I drink I immediately throw up anything I ate the night before and then feel a little better for like 5 min then feel sick again. I throw up yellow stomach acid and foam all day. It's very painful and I can't describe the pain I'm in. I feel like death an like I've been poisoned I usually can't get out of bed until 4 or 5 at night. I can only lay down on my side to slightly relieve the pain. I can't eat or drink anything because I will immediately throw up! It's terrible I'm glad to see I'm not the only one with this problem

like other people have said nearly all of us have issues with acid reflux or digestion . i have really wanted to find out what happens to me . i have the same poisoned symptoms which last till about 8 the following even .cant eat , hold down water and prob vomit 20-30 times . its generally when i drink spirits , never if i stick to guiness. im 35 and know the difference between a really bad hangover and this poisoning. the question i have is it that we are told we have to much acid production and are prescibed acid reducing medications when the problem may be too little acid ??? there are many articles on low hydrochloric acid being the cause of reflux and gerd . could it be medications and antacids cauising the issue ? i dont know but would love to hear from someone in the know !!

I have the same problem, but I'm a 39 year old trunk with a bad liver and ulcers. I'm just quitting drinking, to much hassle. To go through losing a day and feeling that way.

Did the doctors test you for being alergic to glueten? People that are alergic to glueten can not drink beer. It will give you food poisening/flu like symtoms.

I have the same problem. I wish I knew how to prevent it, but an over the counter syrup called Emetrol will stop the vomiting within 20 minutes. It has been a lifesaver!!! They also have generic versions - look for an Anti-Nausea drug that looks similar to Robitussin.

I'm 20 years old and this has been happening to me for the last few years, same as you all, I can drink one weekend and be absolutely fine the next day then another weekend drink a similar amount and spend the next day in bed. Last night I had a gin and tonic and three glasses of wine, I am currently spending the day in my bathroom vomiting every 20 minutes!! Taking some acid reflux tablets before I go out sometimes help but they didn't work last night. I hope we all find a cure!!

Wow thought this was only me. I went out for Halloween last night had more than I planned to drink about 1 1/2 bottles of wine. Had a portion of chips on the way home and a big glass of water. Woke up today and I have been sick all day every 20 mins it's crazy I have been sick about 30 times can't hold down food. It's so uncomfortable. My stomach feels like a have lava in there or something once I am sick I get about 5 - 10 mins of relief and then they nausea comes back and the uncomfortableness. It's not fair some times it happens sometimes it dosent I'm 22 and feel like I can't drink at all anymore I hope there is something that can help. It's a bit worrying as well the day I went out drinking I was 10st 11 and today I am 10st 4. I must be so dehydrated but can't even keep water down :(

Im 25 and this problem began two years ago for me. I do enjoy drinking and im also a bartender so im around alcohol all the time. When it first started I thought I was having a heart attack but it was just the burning in the upper part of my chestaling with dizziness shortness of breath and radiatng pain. Went to several doctors and hospitals and several blood tests and ekg but no one could find tge problem. I ended up diagnosing myself with wcid reflux after doing my own research. Had an endoscopy done and I have GERD also acid reflux. Tums rolaids pepto bismol nexium omeprazol nothing works. Anything I drink has meon my death bed the next day well at least thats what it feels like. Vomiting chills headaches and I cant move. Not like a normal hangover. My husband drinks more than me and he gets up the next morning with no problem. NOTHING HELPS. I nt leave my house let alone get outta bed for at least 8-10 hours. I can only drink broth and water because its less messy when it comes back up because It will come back up. I could never drink two nights back to back like everyone else. When I do eat the next day it has to be small meals because my stomach feels very full quick. Ive been tring alkaseltzer extra strength and chewing cinnimmon gum.

I'm 19 as well. And I go threw the same issues as everyone else. I drink a few and the next day is a living nightmare.!! I can take all the antacids I can possibly take and nothing happens. Such a horrible feeling. I feel better when I'm up walking around the house. Seem like my stomach feels a lot better. But when I lay back down the pain starts again. I might as well just live in the bathroom. For the next 24 hours cuz what's where I'm at most of the time anyway.! I will be seeing my doctor about this and maybe he'll shed some light on the subject. I've been tons of research and I can't find anything and this blog is the best info I've found so far. Just keep our heads up.!

Hi, I am yet another alcohol day after sufferer!  and am also happy (but unhappy for all of you) to know that I am just not crazy!  I am 52 years old and have just in the past few years had this horrible experience after drinking.   I have been a happy "normal" drinker since college, untill about 3-4 years ago I too thought after drinking, I some how also had food poisening... every time.  I missed Christmas day with my kids and family, due to this ...how humiliating it was...I told them all it was the flu!  I have even tried the new wines without the sulfites, thinking that was the issue...was sicker than ever, like alot of others, throwing up every 20 minutes until 8:00 the next night. My kids are 16 now, maybe this is showing them that drinking makes you feel terrible? I really wish a doctor out there could read all of these and see that there is a need for help! It isnt that I want to go out and get wasted (I am a 52 year old Mom) but would love to enjoy a cocktail, glass or two of wine with friends.  I have tried the B-12, tons of water, eat before bed routine...works sometimes, but not really...good luck to all let us know if you come up with something...
