Hey everyone,
I have the same issues except for me it feels like I'm never breathing. But, there is hope...I've managed to get rid of my anxiety/panic attacks and I'm off my medication. But, lately with the right diet and exercise and cutting back on all the c**p I'm finally starting to feel better. So, hang in there and make some positive lifestyle changes and you guys can get your life back!!

I found this thread because I just just had this happen to me for the first time ever.
I am extremely stressed out right now.
I am extremely stressed out right now.
I have read up on this condition and I feel this way also ...lots of tightness and also after I eat it feels even worse. I have constant pain around my ribs and goes around to my back sometimes. Closest I coud find to describe these symptoms were MS girdle ...look it up and it has a lot to do with hot spells too. I hope this helps
I have posted here before with same problems. 47 YO Male (look under heart palpitations). I have been having same problems but with what seems like heart palpitations. Rest is same - somewhat hard to breath, anxiety, and sometimes a tightness or lump in throat. Also sometimes have what seems like my fingers don't exactly work right(I guess you could say numbness but not really). Another problem that started before all this was that I got a piece of food stuck and ever since then I have to "force" food all the way down once in a while.I have have also had most of the heart tests you listed and you guessed it NOTHING. Although BP is high. Still waiting for MD to look at a 24 Hr halter and go from there (I know there isn't anything there but I thought I would humor him) He seems to think my problem is nerves though I am not convinced. I have been getting more exercise lately and trying to eat a little better. In the last 3 weeks the symptoms may have alleviated some but I am still not right. As I said in one of my previous posts - Don't laugh but sometimes when I get these "attacks" I will actually down a few beers and guess what, it calms it down greatly but I seem to pay for it 2 - 3 days later. That is why I personally think it is gastro related. One more note...when I get one of these "attacks" (palpitations, harder to breath, nervousness, etc.) If I take a walk or go for a drive it also helps to alleviate the severity. This does point to nerves. Your guess is as good as mine.
I have had EXACTLY the same symptoms for the past nine months. Happily, I have just had the problem cured.
After wasting time and money going to the doctors, having ECGs, 24hr heart monitoring, blood tests, lung capacity tests, X-rays, ultrasound, and even a CT scan, and then a gastroscopy, nothing was found and the gastroenterologist's best guess was irritable nerves in the stomach lining and suggested anti-depressants helped this condition! I certainly did not want to take anti-depressants unnecessarily. Oh, and the doctor prescribed two different antacid medications. None of these tests or drugs made any difference.
My wife suggested it could be muscular, although I didn't recall suffering any injury. Finally I took her advice and went to a chiropractor, which I was a bit reluctant to do having heard terrible tales of 'back crackers'. The fellow I saw practiced Sacral Occipital Technique (SOT). He saw right away that my spine was not straight and that a rib had moved. This was putting pressure on a nerve and causing the pain in my chest and inability to fully take a deep breath. He gently manipulated my rib back into place and I immediately could breathe fully again.
BTW, I was also suffering anxiety attacks when brathing was most difficult because I felt as though I was suffocating - not unreasonable I thought but the doctor kept suggesting I was under too much stress from work. I was also constantly yawning because this often seemed the only way to fully expand my lungs.
As I said, the first post by the lady exactly described my symptoms. It has now been two weeks since I saw the chiropractor and I have not had a single problem breathing. I notice that I am also standing straighter and taller, I expect because I no longer have the pain in the chest and my spine is straight.
I really hope my experience helps others.

Same thing as most of you, only I'm not too sure if it's related to me eating or not. However, I did have a big burger and fries and coke last night, and a few hours later, my stomach felt really bloated and hard to the touch. It sort of affected my breathing a bit as well. I went to the ER the other night because i couldn't breathe and started getting light-headed, thought I felt a pain in my chest but it might've been in my head. They did EKG and CT scan, but nothing. Discharged me with dyspnea.
Mine started on a particular day though. I just flew back from a three week trip to Japan. It started a day or two after I got back, and i just thought all the yawning was from being jet-lagged. It's now been over a week and I still can't breathe fully and catch a full yawn. The last post made me think of something though. On my flight back, I had a horrible seat. The cushion was completely worn out and the seat was really hard. My butt and back hurt really bad during the flight and the next day i really felt it as well. I'm starting to think that maybe sitting in that crappy airplane seat for 12 hours straight really did a job on my spine, possibly moving a rib slightly and putting pressure on my diaphragm or lungs or something. I have a doc appointment in 9 days, but in the meantime, I think I'll go to a chiropractor and see if that helps. If it does, I'll post something here again. Thanks and good luck to all of you.

So today I went to a chiropractor. I had already spoken to his wife, who is a friend of mine, a few days ago about my condition and she relayed the info to him. So he already had an idea of what was bothering me when I went in. He asked some basic questions, then he checked me out. He said I was a wreck. My legs, hips, and ribs were all out of position. He works a lot on NFL football players and he puts them at a "Phase 5," mainly because their bodies are crushed on a weekly basis during the season. He said I was a "Phase 4." I ruptured my Achilles' tendon about 8 years ago, and he believes that's when it all started. I've also been sitting in a bad office chair at home for the last year or so. And then he thinks my flight back from Tokyo two weeks ago put me over the edge.
Anyways, he adjusted my whole body... neck, hips, legs, ankles, ribs. I felt kinda better right away. Then he had me lay down on my back on some kind of warm waterbed with jets. It felt sooooo good. So I got up after 10 minutes and he told me to take a hot bath with Epsom salt tonight for about 30 minutes, which will help bring down the inflammation of my ribs, which he says is the reason I've been unable to breathe well lately. So hopefully, after my bath later tonight, I will feel close to normal again. I'm already feeling superb compared to this morning. I can take full breaths easier now, and I feel like a big weight has been taken off my chest, literally. It's still not 100%, as I think my rib cage is still swollen from being all twisted up and out of place, but I'm confident that this bath and another visit in two days will do the job.
People, if my condition sounds anything like yours.... hard to breathe, hard to yawn, tightness of chest, test results show nothing... PLEASE consider this an option. I never would've thought that my skeletal situation could have been the answer, but after reading the last person's post, I figured I'd give it a shot. And it worked. Don't be scared. Make an appointment with a chiropractor and ask about rib subluxation. If he/she is a good chiro, then they'll know what you're talking about. Good luck everyone, and thanks to the person that posted previously about going to a chiro. HUGE HELP!!!

Hi I Have been reading this subject with great interest i have suffered some of these things been to doctors etc . I Am just geting on as i think it is in the head easy to say ino i have it at the moment but i dont stop eating and try to get on with things do no let it rule what you do thats also easy to say i believe exercise good diet and keep active my problems started when i relaxed more my mind did not no how to cope with it i believe its stress and can relate to pass and present issues yes it scares the hell out of you but do not forget get support from your family and advice how to deal with it breathing and stuff but if you exercise you can feel the toxins going out of your body this seems to be a common problem and i am going to try and start a support group for all those that suffer please contact me if you think this is a good idea.
I went to ER because i had trouble with breathing, they send me home saying im faine, they propablly thought i was crazy. That night i didnt sleep i tried the nebulizer, and started panickin. My hands and face were numb. I calm down and went to the doctor the first thing in the morning. I was treated with axeiety. He gave me some pills to cal me down but still had dificulty taking deep breath. I noticed thay havy food was worsening my problem. Im taking efexor and changed my diet which seems to help.
It may be a combination of an Ulcer and Anxiety working together in a cycle. I went through the same thing about 2 years ago. Had all the same bloatness, feeling full after very little food, pressure in my upper adomen like I want to vomit, sometimes gag reflexes, feeling tired and sleepy immediately after eating... At first, it was off and on, but then it got worse because I didn't do anything about it. It started doing this every meal. Then I developed GAD and had my first panic attack at an airport. Because my stomach was feeling queasy all the time, I was afraid that it would get me more airsick, leading to an attack right before getting on the plane and throughout the entire flight. Worst time of my life.
That lead me to do something about it. I stopped drinking coffee, would have a little peptopismo before meals and whenever I felt my stomach acting up. I watched what I ate, made it goal to cure my ulcer. Two months later, my ulcer was gone, I was slowly beginning to be able to eat larger and larger meals and all the stomach symptoms went away. And so did my anxiety a few weeks later after my mind is tell me "alright, theres nothing to be scared of, its been weeks and no stomach issues and I'm loving food again."
So don't just worry. If your scans are coming out clean, start thinking positive. Maybe there isn't anything wrong with you, maybe its just a small ulcer that the scans missed, if you've been struggling with the issue for so long and you're still alive, with the only thing that is getting progessive worse is your anxiety and fears, meet it head on. Do little things that you feel may help calm your stomach, change your diet, work on a new strategy and take your focus OFF your fears and worry.

I have had this same problem! It's horrible I'm always out of breath. It just started a few weeks ago. I was never like this. We have had several fires in the area and the ER doc says that might be the problem. He sent me home with an inhaler and a spacer. It is helping a little but I still feel like i'm going to have a panic attack because I cannot take a deep breath. Do you think it might be asthma? Someone anyone please leave feedback. THanks!!! (-=
I am a male 60 years old who has been having the breathing / tight stomach symptoms described since I was 16. The tightness centers around the diaphram but often moves around to the back/shoulder areas. I get these episodes every 10 years or so and have been to every type of Dr. imaginable. The problem with Drs is that If all you have is a hammer everthing looks like a nail. I went to pulmonary specialist and after a battery of pulmonary function tests he told me aI had a minor disruptive disorder. When I asked him to translate that into English he said "you have trouble breathing" . Hell, I knew that when I went in. An internest said it was probably liver related, more tests and everything checked out ok. An alergist said I obviously had alergy problems, Tested for a million things, no alergys. Endoscopys, barium xrays, ultrasounds and several doctors later , no resolution. Every test shows no abnormalities. I've been told I suffer from anxiety by one Dr. , a missaligned spine by a chiropractor ,and my favorite " its all in your head." by an emergency room physician. Yeah, try believing that when you are lying in bed gasping for air like a fish on a dock. I am not overweight,a nonsmoker, don't consume caffene and exercise regularly. The truth is nobody can figure out what triggers these episodes, they come out of the blue last several months and them fade away. Not life threatening but really really annoying. I personally think the problem is muscle related, some type of strain or pull . What I need is doctor who can look at the whole patient and can solve this very old puzzle.
I'm experiencing the same thing, and like most of you all I also have panic attacks and spend a lot of time on the computer. This does not happen to me all the time, only occasionally, but when it does strike it pretty much shuts down my life.
