I read many of the same descriptions, all matching what I was experiencing, and really getting no help at all.

Well by chance, I went in for a routine physical and the exam was given by a Physician's assistant rather than a Doctor.

No problem as this was routine, why waste the Doctor's time?

It was the best stroke of luck, the exam was very thorough, and he wasn't rushed. He found something that several busy doctor's had missed. A very simple but easy to miss problem, especially when a Doctor is rushed, or focused on something else.

The P.A found I had an umbilical hernia, and it didn't help that I am a little overweight which helped hide the hernia.

That was a month ago, and it was repaired in an out-patient surgical setting and now I can breathe free again, and the terrible over-full sensation has not returned.

It may not be the answer to your problem, but maybe someone else who is here with our shared symptoms....good luck, I hope you find relief.

I agree with 90% of what you are saying. I have same issues. Do you snor? I am on a cpap machine at night and that helped alot. Also check you blood pressure it could be high? Good luck ....posture is key I do believe that as well.

Have any of you ever looked into food allergies / intolerances? I think a lot of doctor's blame stress / anxiety (which IS a factor), but an intolerance will make you bloat and yes will cause acid reflux. Acid reflux can cause sore throat, runny, nose, sinus congestion, which also makes it harder to breath. Also, many intolerances make your histamine reactions kick in - which can also cause syptoms of panic attachs. So, as the last person mentioned, consider starting a food journal and figuring out if there are foods agitating you. Anxiety can cause illness and illness can cause anxiety. I have this issue too and many times the hard time breathing happens after I eat, not when I feel stressed out. I constantly think I'm having a panic attack, even at times that don't make sense. I've been watching my diet carefully and today has been the least anxious / achy day I've had in awhile.

Hi guys i have the same problem, bloatedness and fullness after eating, also alot of discomfort and sometimes pain leading to my chest cavity, i have tried many things over the last few months, its unbelievable, omeprazole 20, altosec 20, some helped, some didnt, saw numerous specialists and doctors who told me it is indigestion, i even tried eno's which helps a little now and then, but the breathlessness gets kinda scary. but what i have realised is that its all in your diet, i have changed my diet and ever since its beeen fading away1

I have the same problem! But, I have Chronic Broncitis from smoking. So, I have taken medicine for the breathing which helps. I do walking excercises, every day, for about half hour to 45 mins. and other excercises in that time frame. It has helped, but, I noticed when I was 115 lbs. it was easier to breath....So I am trying to loose the 20 lbs I put on. I Am going to walk, outside, when it is warmer.

I'm in the same boat. I thought that the inability to breath was panic, and didnt' even notice the bloating. But, once I started paying attention I realized that the inability of breathing came about 30 minutes after eating and that I was bloated. The bloating pushes on your diaphgram (and normally with excessive bloating is IBS) and the stomach acid goes up your esophagus. This makes your throat hurt, and swell. Causes congestion in your face and headache...all making it difficult to breath.

Diet is a huge factor. Pills arent' the answer so much as learning to eat different. Eat small amounts often, cut back on carbs, don't eat acids on an empty stomach, and minimize alcohol and pop and you will see a massive difference!

OMG... me too. I am sick of having stomach scans, endoscopies etc. I have reduced the amount of food I eat which does seem to help. I have also cut out any acid producing fruits also which has helped hugely. I do however, still have lemon in my water to help reduce the acid.  I came across a book that I have had for years, Heal you life(Louise Hay) and I have just started to affirm: I digest life with ease, Life agrees with me, I assimilate the new every moment of every day. All is well. I also lay on my stomach and push the top of myself back to form an arch and stretch out my stomach, then I take a deep breath (this really helps) I will stop at nothing to correct my stomach. The good news is that I do have good periods of time when it feels like I'm getting somewhere. I just have to watch what I eat. I hope this helps :-) "hang in there"

Hello Everyone,

I have had very similar issues to all of you.  I went to numerous different specialists and doctors, had just about every scan possible, and all came back with nothing.  Recently I got an upper endoscopy and they finally found I had a Hiatal Hernia.  This is causing the difficulty breathing, pain in my upper stomach, etc....

They treat it just like GERD, but none of the medications they prescribed helped me.  I went and saw an NMD, and he put me on a diet plan, and this is helping me a great deal.  Basically I had to cut out caffeine, alcohol, soda, chocolate, wheat, and cut out all use of NSAIDs.  Wheat is the tough one, it's in everything.  But low and behold, I've lost weight, and slowly my symptoms are getting better.  It's a slow recovery, but seems to be much more effective than just trying to cover up my symptoms with heartburn medications.

Hi,

I answered in a bit ago, but I have continued food trialling - both modification and elimination.  I have found out what seems to bug me (hystamine intolerance), but very rarely feel bloated now unless I eat the completely wrong food.  I have had to cut back on dairy, on wheat, on sugar, on fruits, on acids, on alcohol, on spice - in many ways it's horrible, but I bloat less, I've lost weight, my sinuses are much clearer, I realize how inflamed I was as my shoes are loser and my rings slip off, less headache, my throat is much less sore, my teeth are no longer sensitive, and my ability to breath is much easier.  I also feel much calmer - I think the hard time breathing made me feel anxious more than the anxiety made it that I couldn't breath.

So, go on a modified wheat / dairy / sugar diet and eat mainly lean meats, fruits and minimal starches for about a week.  You may just notice that you are barely bloated and it was what you were eating all along.  It's a viscous cycle. But I'm seeing improvements all around and continuing to figure out my trigger foods.  The problem before was I never ever noticed the bloating - since I think I've had these food intolerances my entire life it was "my normal", now that I know what "normal" ACTUALLY feels like I am starting to identify what a reaction is - this includes both GI, bowels, achiness, skin, and asthma-like symptoms.  Keep an eye

IF you do this and see no improvement, then it is not diet, simply IBS.  If it is IBS you can eat smaller amounts more often, chew your food more, don't drink liquids with your food and severely modify your acid intake - this includes coffee and tea.  Good luck everyone. It's a long process, but I think it's going to be worth it.  Not being able to breath is horrible.

I am a 29 yr. old female, I have been experiencing these symptoms for over 15 years now. My dr.s thought I had asthma due to the breathing issues. My tightness is in my upper stomach. I was put on Paxil for years and then prescribed xanax in case of a panic/anxiety attack. I finally had enough of being on the medicine and got off for a while. I was fine. 1 year later the symptoms came back.  I couldn't really pinpoint what brought on the symptoms.. While pregnant with my first child, I was prescribed Zoloft. After having a couple kids I didn't need any medicine. My husband and I think that it is a hormonal imbalance. That is my next thing to check.  I have heard that it may be low in progesterone.

To everyone on here all of your symptoms could be from something that you are eating...that you may be allegic to or you could be lactose intolerant...sorry about the spelling...I went and had blood taken and with it they tested me for allergies...milk...dogs, cats, all fruit, veggies and all outdoor stuff...I am not allergic to milk...but I was having all these symptoms...full heavy stomach when not eating a lot..hard to breathe, lots of gas and side pain...I did my own research and realized I was lactose Intoll....so I cut out milk and it's made a huge difference!! Gas and pain went away...now today I have a heavy full feeling in my stomach and hard to breathe but I think it's because the last few days I caved and had some regular cow's milk...when you are lactose something in your body has a hard time breaking it down..so it just kind of sits there for a long time...a lot of people become lactose the older they get...I started drinking almond milk..its hard to adjust to at first but with any habit good or bad the more you do it and more you get used to it and especially if something so simply is hurting you..just replacing it makes all the difference...most of the time its nothing serious...its something so simple like something we are eating or drinking that our bodies just can't digest well...I hope this helps all of you...I know how it feels to suffer for a long time...so I hope some of this helps

Usually anxiety and panic is caused from something so simple like something we are eating or drinking that's causing our symptoms...I got a test done that the doctor ACCIDENTALLY gave me...I say it was God helping me find the answer...I had a really tight stomach...hard to breathe...full feeling...it was terrible...I lived in these run down apartments for awhile that had bad water and I think that's how I got this...but through a blood test the doctor found I had HPylori..a stomach infection you can get from a food you ate or from bad water...the doctor gave me a bunch of meds to take for a couple weeks and the infection was gone...I felt WAY better...then I had some different symptoms with lots of gas, side pain..full stomach and with my own research figured out I can't have milk anymore...as soon as I cut out dairy...milk was a big one...it was like night and day...for some reason my stomach can't digest cow's milk or has a hard time doing it...so I replaced it with Almond milk....made ALL the difference in the world!!

YES IT IS A KILLER, do not eat too much at a time, never fill your stomach and if u do go throw up. It's anxiety control your nerves and and always keep your belly only half full or less. Throw up if you are full ok and try to stay calm. a beer a day will help better than stress pill. stay hydrated and eat well just not too much at once...
