I have the exact same problems with the front left side of my neck. Every single time I swallow it clicks, feels like it might pop out of place and has done so but very rarely, the popping part. Have had a swallowing xray done it showed nothing wrong. I think I might explore the cyst idea. I also had a Cat Scan and again nothing wrong, might try an MRI next. I have had previous problems with TMJ but that is clicking in the jaw, not the neck. The neck popping is very strange and disturbing maybe it is related to the thyroid, any helpful tips would be appreciated.

I read this forum whilst having the same problem that most people had mentioned. I had been given all sorts of explenations by doctors as to why I was getting this aching feeling deep insid the throat around the adams apple. Last week I went to take a drink of water and my throat gave a crack sound and seem to seaze up and left me really sory like I had been hit in the throat. I went back to the doctor and he sent me to a specialist (Ear Nose Throat). They had a look inside and told me what the problem was... It is a problem called Laryngopharyngeal reflux. It is caused by acid rising up from the stomach and causing the upper mussel that controls the junction between the stomach and the lungs. It causes this mussel to tighten giving the aching feeling and the pain can get hard to handle. Most people find that it hurts less when eating, and also will find they are always swallowing mucus. This mucus is not the result of an infection, but by the irritation caused by acid. You don't need to get heartburn to have acid rising in the throat. Some people will get reflux pain and others won't. I am now being put on tablets to control the acid and have been told that I should see signs of improvment soon. I was also told that surgery may be required buyt in most cases it can be controlled with tablets and diet... I was also assured that the problem is common as seen in these forums, and is often misdiagnosed. Many people worry about cancer and get worried when the doctor is not able to assit. I felt this way myself. Other associated symptoms some people may also get (but not always) are chest pain, bloating and ahcing of the chest (wind pipe).
I hope I have been a help to others that may be worried. Please ask to see an Ear Throat and Nose Specialist. You will put your mind at rest by doing so. Your symptoms may be the result of the same proble, I have had.
Cheers

Hey guys,
I have something similar. Not sure if its a throat issue at all. Sometimes a "canker sore" on the bottom of your tongue (down a ways) can cause this feeling. Also, I know this may sound kooky but plug your left or right ear (which ever side your throat hurts on). Apply some pressure and then swallow, does your throat still hurt, if not its probably an ear infection. I'm not a doctor but this is some things that helped me out. I'm still not quite sure where the problem lies however...

I'm really glad to find this forum! I have been having the same thing: sore on one side of the front of my throat, clicking when I swallow saliva, soreness when I swallow. It feels almost like I pulled a muscle in the front of my throat. I'm thinking about seeing a doctor, but I might just wait to see if it goes away on its own.

discomfort in left side of neck near my adams apple. I went to the doctor and he ran a white blood cell test becuase I was worried it was cancer. Test results came back normal. Then I went to an ENT and was told it was stress and I got a few Xanex. I have been dealing with this for 7 months now on a daily basis. Im 31 years old and I do smoke but this feels more like a tendon or muscle that's been ripped or pulled at some point in time. Regardless the Xanex didn't help and Im still dealing with the same pain so I still have no answers. If anyone finds anything out please respond and let us all know whats going on with this annoying disorder.

I have the same thing too! I always felt like i had a lump in my throat so I went to the ENT doctor and he put a camera up my nose and found out that my voice box was swollen due to acid reflux. I take antacids and it got better!

I am in so much pain. My symtoms are similar to every one elses and I have had this for approx. 2 weeks. My right side of my throat is bringing me to tears with pain. When explaining to others I say I have a sore throat but the pain is more on the outside, although it does hurt to swallow. I am already on thyroid medicine so dont think it is a thyroid issue. I have had cancer (non-hodgkins lymphoma @ 19 and hodgkins @ 10 years later, so my pain tolorance is very high. My remission time is 8 years and counting. I am going to the drs. tomorrow so hopefully he can tell me what the problem is, but if anyone has any ideas that I can bring with me I would greatly appreciate it. BTW-none of my pain killers (vicodin & methadone) do anything but provide tempory (1 hr at most) relief. HELP!!!

Did a search on my throat aching and it lead me here. (I am a healthy 35 yr old with no major health problems and perfect blood work, negative xrays). Funny that the clicking when you swallow, was also listed as many people's symptoms. I have had the scope in my throat and told that I had an extra piece of tissue that was rubbing and causing the click. The ENT dr said that nothing needed to be done at that time. So...I felt at peace until a year later when it was still bothering me, so... went back, but saw different ENT at same office. He said, "well, it looks like you have reflux". He gave me the same speech that many of you have had. I asked about the extra flap of skin in my throat that the other dr saw. He said, "Oh...I wasn't aware of that. It is nothing to worry about". I took the prevacid for a few weeks and it went away for a few months. It is still there. I am in no better shape, except that I keep a rx for the prevacid and take it for a month here and there. I am fully functional, just have these strange aches and symptoms. I am a nurse in the ER and have learned that a doctor will find a diagnosis for your problem, however, it may not be the correct one. Also, if you keep going to the dr with different complaints that are nonspecific, you will get a label that you will not like and still may never know that actual cause of your problem. o.O

I can't believe I found this site! I have been going crazy over this neck pain for so many months, so I figured I would research the internet myself. I have this throbbing, aching in the left front side of my neck that feels like it is localized. No problems swallowing but at night I don't feel like talking because it is so sore. When I press behind my ear, directly behind my jaw it seems to ease it a little. Now I am getting ear pain associated with it, temporal pain and the newest symptom is darting pain down to my clavicle. Some days are better than others, but it is always there. I do have GERD and seem to be getting a lot more heartburn lately too. When I went to the doctors 5 months ago, they thought maybe my eustachan tube wasn't draining properly and advised I take Ibuprofin and a decogestent. Well, I LIVE on Ibuprofin and have stopped taking the decogestant (didn't seem to make a difference). Anyone have any advice or have figured out what this is?

Try looking into EFT for dealing with stress. Things like this, especially issues that are hard for doctors to deal with, are often related to one's difficulties in coping with stress. I use this technique and it helps my body neutralize and get through stressors in my life. Check it out if you will...

I suffered with this aching throat and the doctor could only say it was stress. I have however come across a product from Schuessler Tissue Salts available at chemists and health shops called Mag Phos which is a muscle relaxant. I previously found it helpful for restless legs but didn't take it often. I started by taking the maximum dose recommended for a few days and found the ache stopped. I now have got it to one tablet per day taken in the morning and the problem has gone completely. I hope you find this helpful as I know how terrible this problem is and with seemingly no relief.

All of the mentioned above issues with the left side of the neck jaw and chin have been overwhelming me for the past couple of months. The pain almost moves but is always either left side of neck (not in the throat) jaw and chin. I have been using a heat pack and asprin as I am hoping it is muscular however hav obvious concerns it may be something else. I have Been to the Dr's (due to having the flu at the same time) and was on antibiotics twice for the flu. The end result of that is that the flu is almost gone but this left side pain is still in full force!!! I have googled as you do and thought that this may be Thyroid related or lymph node - I also have a family history of thyroid issues. I am at a loss however will probably go back to the DR as I can not keep going with this, it is a little painful but more just very annoying. I have also been feeling run down and a little moody/irritable - not sure if this is related or just due to a stressful hectic lifestyle. Not sure what to do, I realise that all the posts on this are a couple of years old, if anyone has further feedback please advise ASAP I would really appreciate it!!!
