I had the same pain for a couple of months. I visited the ENT 3 times and she took a look of my throat with a camera, some X rays, a sonogram of the front neck. Everything was excellent but the pain was still there. At the end I realized that I was sleeping on that side to much, using large pillows, and I sat at the front of the computer for a long time in a bad chair. I changed those three things, put ice bags on my neck for 20 minutes, 5 times a day, and I took for 3 days anti inflamatories. Now, I can swallow very well and no pains.
I tried to massage the area and to put hot pads but those made worst the problem.
Good luck!!! Pray God...

So so interesting. I've been dealing with this "thing" in my throat for nearly two years now. I've been able to trace absolutely that it acts up about two days after I've had ice cream or frozen yogurt and when I'm under a lot of pressure or stress. This is usually every two or three months- though I have the sense that the particular gland or tonsil affected is still slightly larger than normal inbetween flare ups. I have been studying natural foods and natural healing for a few years and my current theory is that it is the result of built up toxins in the tonsils and lymph nodes. Once the toxins go beyond the level which a person's body can manage and eliminate, due to stress or diet or lifestyle, the tonsils and glands become overtaxed causing discomfort or pain in the throat, neck, ear and sinus regions (which are all inter-related anyway). This, then, causes the whole body to feel unwell.
Tracing the symptoms back in time, I did notice, as with one other comment, that they began after dealing with a major loss in my life, as well as giving birth to twins (major surgery) and having my first root canal. I believe the combination was a trigger for various symptoms in my body to develop. Through switching to whole natural foods and learning new ways to process my grief, I have been able to eliminate every health issue except for this one. It seems to linger to remind me that I need to dig a little deeper- that something is still a little out of balance.
I do think sinus congestion is a major contributer- the bacteria travels downward affecting all of these regions, even into the stomach. Commercial dairy products are a huge trigger for sinus issues because of the toxic methods of production and artificial ingredients. Through experimentation, I have found that raw (and grass fed) dairy products give me absolutely no sinus problems or health issues, but as soon as I eat ice cream/yogurt from a store or restaurant, I'm in for it. That "thing" will flare right up about 36 hours later. I do think that for me it is because I have a constant flow of toxins from dealing with grief (and from a root canal) that makes eating commercial dairy products put me over the top of my body's threshold. Health is a combination of mind/body/spirit. If one is out of balance, it will affect the others.
Root canals are another constant source of toxic material burdening the body in that region- and can spread outward to other regions of the body. There is toxic bacteria at the root tips that no procedure can clean out. Because the tooth is dead, blood is unable to reach the bacteria to fight it, so instead it is absorbed into the body. A strong immune system can handle it, but if your body is already weak from diet/lifestyle/stress etc, it will put you over the top of your threshold and start causing problems in the head/neck region and outward (beginning in the glands and tonsils nearest the tooth in question.) I think this is why that "thing" in my throat remains at a slight level of inflamation inbetween flare ups. It is constantly being fed by that root canaled tooth on the same side. This theory was generally accepted among dentists years ago, but is no longer taught in dental school or backed by the ADA (surprise! root canals are their bread and butter!) Do a little research on this topic (toxic root canals). It's fascinating.
I'm considering having my root canaled tooth extracted, but in the meantime have been experimenting with other means of reducing the toxic load in my body to see if I can salvage that tooth (it's a major molar that I would hate to lose, and extractions open up a whole new set of problems.) The healthier I am in all areas of my life, the less I notice that feeling in my throat. In some ways, it's been a blessing- causing me to make some permanant changes for the better.
Good luck to everyone. I hope this helps. If anything, your comments have re-enforced my own conclusions and confirmed that the doctors and dentists unfortunately do not have the answers- unless they are willing to look beyond the symptoms and into every aspect of health.

I am suffering from some similar symptoms. It almost felt like a baaad sore throat at first "outbreak" but it was in the esophagus, around the Adam's apple. At it's worst it felt very mechanical to swallow, sort of like the "clicking" symptom about. Then it seems to heal up to a certain degree, only to come back again later. It seems like certain foods irritate it. For example, if I drank a shot of liquor that would certainly irritate the hell out of it. Also if I eat sharp crusty bread that hurts it. The doctor felt my throat and there are no lumps. I've been dealing with this since last July. I'm going to get scoped during the summer. I'm not too concerned about it at this point because it doesn't seem to be getting worse and I've been learning what things irritate it. It just flares up and then dies down again. I've almost been suspicious of it being an ulcer but I don't know... Just curious if any of you have any updates or thoughts on my current condition based on your own experiences.
Thanks
