Hi I have the same symptoms as you do, Including the need to constantly clear my throat. I have only had this for 2 days, however the pain is so severe that it prompted me to search what it could be, in case it is something that needs to be addressed immediately. So thank you all for all of your posts and to the person I am replying to in particular. This actually came to me on Christmas eve 12/25/2013 and I had an attack of throat congestion, I had to cough something up, or clear my throat constantly since then and it was alarming to feel a localized pain in a small point of the left side of my neck that was right around the carotid artery and next to the gland at the very middle of my neck/throat that was very painful to the touch. It is situated directly next to where, if I where a man, would be my Adam's apple. It is inside right behind the carotid artery next to a gland in the front of the neck. Please let me know if you have found out anything more up to date regarding this. Also when I bite down on the left side of my mouth, is how I was introduced to the pain in my neck to begin with, I am thinking that since I have allergies that cause congestion, that it could be caused by that, but now I am thing it may be more of a mus co-skeletal pain. I am praying it is not serious, but I think I will give it a few days and see how I feel before I go to the Dr. and maybe it will go away.

I have had this strange sensation just under the big throat gland one the right side. Directly central to the point on my Adam's apple. Fortunately it isn't painful but is uncomfortable and like most of you it's like it's getting in the way when I move my neck in a particular direction. Usually when I look up. "Cancer" is always in the back of my head but there is no signs to suggest I might be getting ill and rarely ever do. (I'm a 26 year old male). I've had this for around a year however I had an operation back in 2007 to remove my annanoids. I'd notice warts right at the back of my tong and just assumed that my one has grown deeper down my throat. It feels like pressure sometimes, as though it needs to be popped. Stranger still there is a small flat mole exactly were the sensation is and has a black hair grow out of it every few weeks. Might just be me but when I pull the hair out its as if the pressure is gone. But when the hair starts to come back so does the sensation. I'm going o book myself in at the doctors.

Mardy, your post make the most sense in my case. I have similar symptoms, although a bit higher and only on ONE side, which seems odd. I went to my ENT, neck MRI showed little. Blood work all good. I have a history of Schatzki ring which they stretched over 5 years ago. I have been on proton pump inhibitors and ant-acids ever since. With these new and increasing symptoms, I am scheduled for a new endoscopy. I am rather worried for the unknown, hoping for the best.

I just got a similar feeling in my throat yesterday (feb 2014). It's located about 3 inches below my chin and in the front center of my throat. It almost feels like its bruised (when touching with my fingers). No lumps and it hurts more when chewing than swallowing.

I am a 21 year old male and i noticed some of the symptoms on this post. It started as something like a ball on the back of my tongue when i swallowed. then that went away and it feels achy under my adams apple, on the sides of my neck & above my chest bone. Hurts when i move my neck any which way...have to pull look down for some relief. Whenever i drink anything it feels like im drinking carbonated soda as when it goes down my throat it feels fizzy. i work out on abs hard everyday and im hoping that i tore something doing abs and its not something worse.. im only 21 and this just sporatically came out of nowhere yesterday... so aggravated

hi i have the same feels bruised and aches. iv had the doctors checking it and had bloos tests for thyroids but came back ok. not sure weather to go back to drs. dawn

Hello!  This thread is from 2007 so I hope it is visible for others to read.  I am a female in my 60ties and I started with a massive pain on right side of neck and swellingin front  in Octoner 2013.  I went to an internest she ordered blood work and ultrasound which showed a 2mm nodule on rt side of thyroid.  This was only discovered because of the inflamation.  I then went to an Endo and by then the swelling had gone down.  He did a fine needle biopsy which came back as "indeterminate".  I went back and complained of constant paid in neck which is now more nagging and I feel soreness under jaw and to the left of tonsil near carotid area...where I feel something.  I asked if it could be connected and he said NO.  So I asked for further blood work other than TSH which was normal and he ordered including antibody test.  All came back normal.  He said he will not do another ultrasound and recommend A) TOTAL thyroid removal or B) another needle biopsy which I discovered is available when doing research online.  It is by a company called Veretec? And I can't remember..I think the test is called Afirma.  That should give you enough to do a search.  I have not had either.  So now it is almost 5 months and pain under jaw and rt side of tonsil..near carotid continues and goes from mild to severe aching under jaw..feels like throbbing which goes to tooth.  Now I did have a tooth xray before this started after my 6 month cleaning because I thought aching came from there.  Nothing showed up.  Yet I have my suspicions.  I had a mammogram as well and the swelling in neck connected to Thyroid issue started after my exposure to radiation.  I do not want to have a Cat Scan because I feel it can aggravate situation.  So I have gone to a DO and he gave me a thorough exam and order more labs..5 tubes of blood to include C Reactive Protein test.  Still waiting on results.  The aggravating is the hurry up and wait!  I feel like a sitting duck which I know many of you understand the feeling.  I went to my cardiologist and explained and he suggested a Carotid Ultrasound which I am on scheduled to have in a week.  I called and explained that I had a horrible night with pain and hardly slept so the are doing today..thank God.  The pain I am feeling right at this moment is more under my jaw but it covers whole are and shoulder and right arm and also at times on right arm as well. Today I seem to have sort of a dull ache up right side of head.  I do have a deviated septum and post nasal drip and with spring time here I don't know what to say.  BTW..I went to an ENT and he did NOTHING!  No testing nada!  Back tracking....Endo said that my cyst is a 2mm folicular neoplasm and it does have blood vessels. So I have been taking supplements that are supposed to help.  I won't give up!  I want to feel normal.  I am petite...106 and only health issue is heriditary Fuch's Dystrophy which involves cornea transplant surgery which I will have to postpone. I mention weight because I have had no weight gain or loss.  I do have cold hands and feet and my underarm temp is 95.50  I understand how helpless you (we) feel. Want to mention that when this started my mom had transitioned and I had a challenging year after her transition. Lots of challenges. I am in the natural healing arts and continue to research.  We live in our bodies and know what we are feeling!  We cannot give up!  Where there is life there is HOPE!  God Bless ALL!!

I totally understand on how you feel. I have the same symptoms as well. It's like crazy. Sometimes I feel like I could pull the muscle from my neck to release the pain. My pain had left for awhile but, it came right back. Sometimes it gets so bad I have hoarseness. I taught I was the only one going through this. So I am not alone.

I have had the same thing off and on for years..I have been to multiple doctos/specialists....I was scoped by an ENT and diagnosed with something called LPR..google this and see if any of this seems to describe what you are having..LPR is slient reflux.. I am currenly taking a PPI twice a day and am eating foods that have a higher PH and drinking higher PH water. The pain went away for about three weeks but then I had one episode of regurgitation qnd it came back on the oppsite side..again, google LPR and go see an ENT and ask them if they believe you may have this....good luck

Yes I do .i am 50year old male ,and all the symtoms are the very same..sometimes very painful in a localised areas.no lumps or bumps,but very near the main archery in my neck,,,,

Hi Guys I am joining this conversation because  I have strange feeling on my left back neck. It feels like something moving inside. It started 3 months ago with pain, now I feel strangely some motion can somebody tell me what this is. The Doctor took X-ray when I had pain and gave me pain killers which have not helped. According to the Doctor then I had nothing wrong. All of a sudden this feeling someone tell me what is this.

My symptoms match the original poster. I'm going to the doctor tomorrow. I have zero symtpoms of GERD.  The first time I noticed it was 2 winters ago. I'm a singer and we aren't busy during the winter. I noticed a popping sensation on the right side of my larynx when I swallowed. At times it was so bad I tried to manipulate my neck before swallowing to keep it from happening but couldn't help it. When I started singing again in spring it got better so I thought it was muscular.  But it's still there, not painful, not radiating, just localized. When I touch both sides of my larynx, the right side feels bigger. The left is flat, the right side is rounded. When I swallow it feels like something is rubbing on cartilage. Too low to be hyoid bone.

I have a similar thing. Started 8 months ago, when a piece of bread got stuck on left side of throat.It  then felt sore, but didnt go away. Feels like deep raw area left side of throat. No problems swallowing, and def not a sore throat. Sometimes heat radiates up to left ear. Also air sometimes gets trapped in food pipe. Had blood tests, gastroscopy, and he looked at throat with camera when doing gastroscopy. All  normal.  Very frustrating, as went away for a couple of months, now back. Feels raw, but nothing to be found
