I promised myself I would post a message on here as soon as I got rid of this aching feeling on my neck. Like many of you I had the same symptoms, weird pain, tenderness, deep on side of neck near the pulse area, not in the throat but close to it, not a sore throat, yet it feels like it touches the throat somehow, turning my head and swallowing would make it hurt a bit more. A few months ago I started having symptoms of acid reflux and had tightness in chest, sometimes a I would feel the acid come up sometimes not, and a lot of throat clearing, however this neck pain was new. I want to thank those who posted that it might be acid reflux because I would have never thought it was related but it was. Apparently, there is such a thing as silent acid reflux, the acid can pool around your throat and cause damage to that whole area including up near the side of your neck. Please research this, my pain went away after a few days of Ibuprofen and Prilosec!! I had no idea this could be it until I read all the posts here, so thank you to all. One thing to keep in mind is that just because you don't taste or feel the acid come up DOES NOT mean it is not there. This was the case for me and I'm so glad the pain is finally gone. My acid reflux was not being controlled and it was causing major havoc to my throat/neck area. Wishing everyone all the best in finding a solution.

Hello, did either of you get diagnosed or resolve the issue? I have ALL the same issues w/ exception to the ears otherwise, I'm experiencing the SAME things in the SAME locations.

I got the same issue with the left side from head down to chest, I felt terrify that my wife took me to ER, I thought that I about to get stroke or some kinds of clogged that make me getting worse, In that morning, I even could not move my head, my tongue so stiff that I hardly speak, my voice was changing that make me more nervous, I felt tingling on my left index, middle, and ring fingers. My neck is painful when I move. When I laid down on bed I could not sit up like normal, I keep holding my head to get more support when I roll to my right side to push and sit up. When I was in ER, Nurse asked, if I got accident recently or got bang into the head ... none of those applied. My blood pressure at that morning was 157/ 94 a little bit higher than normal but it's okay. Doctor sent me to CT scan, MRI of head and neck, took EKG, and did blood test. Dr. said there are no results of head or neck injury, no blood clogged, no tumor, no sign of heart attack, no sign of stroke, etc... all everything is normal. Doctor said more of muscle at the left neck getting stiff that causing the aches, cute pinch pain, so he gave me the IV medicine for muscle relaxation plus reduce nausea, and pill for pain killer. Finally, I got discharged from ER. Four days now since I write this, I still getting hurt 24/24 I still can't move my head to left or right, still hurt on the left throat when swallow, can't open my mouth big like before, when driving hardly turn neck left or right, my head can't bend backward a bit, very painful still, and few times a day I get a pinch aches from left deep next to the throat. I keep exercise my neck little by little, taking pain killer, put on hot tower, get neck massage, also put on pain killer ointment. When I read these post, I feel much better .... I think that because when I sleep not lying down properly, I normally sleep on the right hand side, during sleep I frequently having acid reflux that's burn up my throat/neck area, also my throat getting really dry because I can't breath through my noses, I feel like there are valves close up that prevent me to breath through noses. As suggest from other post, I need to raise up the bed frame to reduce acid reflux at night, keep moving head at work, try to relax neck muscle .... Hopefully, my issue will be resolved soon... Wishing everyone all the best in finding your own treatment.... Thanks all for sharing life experiences.... God bless all of us.....

I have the same problem and it's only been 5 days and I'm worrying. It's says you posted the comment a year ago, so I was wondering how you feel now and what has happened. If you could answer this I'd be so thankful. Thank you. (P.S I'm only 16 years old so I'm really confused and worried.)

Superior Laryngeal Neuralgia … I have the same symptoms, have probably done equal amounts of research and this is the only diagnosis I can find that covers what I experience. Haven't been to the Dr for an actual diagnosis, although my mother works for an ENT, I'm getting tired of the occasional bouts of pain and am probably going to see him soon about this. I'll write back with any findings.

(Superior Laryngeal Neuralgia - A rare disorder characterized by severe pain in the lateral aspect of the throat, submandibular region, and underneath the ear, precipitated by swallowing, shouting or turning the head……)

I also have been diagnosed with acid reflux and Prilosec helps but not always. Raising your bed or torso seems like it would work but my reflux also happens while im sitting or standing up so what then?

Hi, I had this exact thing....and it turns out I have tonsil stones!! Which are little bits of food that get trapped in the pits of the tonsils, they also cause terrible bad breath!!! The best way to deal with them is obviously a tonsillectomy, which is actually difficult to get a Dr to do it....but whilst waiting for the operation use either a cotton bug (Q-tip) and gently push around the pits on the tonsils, if you can see parts of the tonsils that's a little paler than the rest then that's.a good place to start pushing. I use an empty ice-lolly stick!! Gargle with warm salt water too. Please let me know if this has helped x x x
Sincerely
A fellow tonsil stone sufferer x x x
