My husband is 40 yr. old and woke up with a swollen rt. sided neck mass. Very painful. This kept growing bigger, on an angle almost from just past the jaw, up to his hair line. Approx. 3" x 3". I was worried, so a dr. visit, and an ultrasound later, still no answers. I was worried about a dvt in the jugular vein, which was negative. The ultrasound showed some complex, mostly anechoic areas, some with vascular areas. He is a heavy smoker, and drinker. He has no fever, and has had no recent sickness. Not even a cold. It's so painful, he is unable to turn his head. It's driving me crazy to think that we have to wait 3 more days to see the doctor for the results, does anyone have any idea what this could be? Thank you in advance.
I know that this is a little old post but in my opinion this might be swollen lymph nodes. I’m not sure if the doctor has ruled that one out?
This can usually mean that there is some infection in body and that the body is trying to fight it. If this is the case the swelling of the neck should be normal in few days. But you will get those results in three days anyhow.
Has your husband had any problems with his tonsils? I’m not sure if that can cause swelling on the neck, but I know that they can get swollen pretty high.
I think that he should stop drinking if he has problems with lymphatic system.
