Put a tennis ball between your rib and a wall and message. If the rib is out of place you can put it back this way.
I found this awhile back, mine has caused me the worst pain i've ever know but this works if you have a dislocated floating rib

The reason it would 'float' at all is if your back muscles were tight, they could squeeze it out of place and would also cause the pressure on the area to create the pain that you get. Breathing deep adds pressure to the back muscles as the ribs expand, hiccups and other movements are causing your spine to move which would be causing the pressure on the back muscles to tighten them up in the first place. To get rid of the pain and to keep the rib from popping out of place you have to release your back muscles and here's how to do that release:
Back:
(do while sitting on a chair)
Place your left hand on your left leg next to your body. Place your right hand over your left shoulder, fingers over the back and the palm in the front, and firmly pull down on them and hold. After 30 seconds slowly lower your body forward and to the outside of your left leg, keeping your left arm as straight as possible. When you reach your lap remain there for another 10 seconds, then release the pressure but rest there for another 30 seconds. Then reverse your hand positions and do your right side.
For best results relax your body first by taking a deep breath and exhaling then remain this relaxed.
Then it's possible to have tight muscles on the ribs as well. They can be released by you or someone pressing between the ribs and holding a pressure on between them for 30 seconds. That should be done to that rib and the one above it as well.
Might be an old topic, but you are a lifesaver, been having this problem for years and that hand trick worked like a charm, THANK YOU!!
Have you got a video or images to show what you mean exactly instead of just cppy paste words ..Thanks
I've had the same issue for 4 years now. After several doctor's and all kinds of tests, they finally ordered an X-ray just on the right rib cage. My 11th and 12th floating ribs are dislocated & the constant, different types of pain is caused by the ribs tangled up in my nerves. The problem I'm having is finding a surgeon that will actually remove the ribs & lazer/burn the nerves. I have neck and back problems with shooting pain & I can deal with that pain. But even with pain management, I can't deal with the rib/nerve pain. I'm getting married this year & want to start a family soon after because I will be 37 years old by then. If anyone knows of what type of surgeon i need, your help would be great. I hope the info I shared will help you as well.
Thanks
Jenn

What doctor removed your ribs and where is he/she located ?
Hi I hope your rib pain is gone. Did you find a treatment? My teen son was diagnosed today after 3 weeks of pain and multiple doctors. Relieved they say they can try to help him with a physical therapy rib manipulation or maybe a shot there. Some doctors said maybe anxiety but I know it was because he's in pain and worried. Who wouldn't be. Poor kid.
Hello, I was riding my bike at 10 mph and fell to the right side. 2 months later my rib on the left feels a bit protruded by little less than an inch. Is it health-harming? Is my rib dislocated or swollen?
