I had same problem tree months ago doctor also adised me to drink plenty of water and prescribed amoxicillin 250ml for ten days 3 times a day...it worked but now i have it again on the right side...i'm wondering if it has to do with having a cemented three molar bridge on both sides in bottom jaw.

I have read all of the symptoms which I have the same pain in my right jaw when I eat anything. I have been taking Coricidin HB for about four days for symptoms of a cold, and I think it has something to do with the meds I have taken. Maybe drying out my glands because I have never had this problem before.

Hi, I'm just reading your post, but wanted to reply in hopes that you figured out your problem. I have the same issues. I have had pain and swelling in my finger joints, and its painful when I bump them against something. It comes and goes. This has been going on for years. I finally went to a rheumatologist who told me I have osteoarthritis, I'm in great health otherwise and not overweight, and also only 28 years old. So, it's hard for me to believe it's OA. Recently, I've had continuous neck pain, and now tmj pain on one side. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks.

I have the same problem, it is a BLOCKED GLAND and if you push on the outside of area, or squeeze to unblock the area, it should clear up. Sometimes you may not be able to unblock it by pushing or squeezing the inside of your mouth and then you have to see a dentist who can refer you to an oral surgeon who can unblock the gland.

My pain is similar. I feel as though much of it is derived from the OA joint (C1 and C2).  I have always had neck problems and 4 months into Medical school my neck was going nuts.  It started as just maxillary pain with some flushing.  I then began having non-stop headaches and facial pain.  I noticed that I had very sensitive areas over my maxilla and mandible and would massage constantly.  This year I began noticing that my tongue was fatigued from swallowing so much, I would on occasion (when alone) allow my mouth and tongue to just hang out/open due to the pain and discomfort.  I to noticed pain with alcoholic beverages.  I would describe the pain as an extreme never ending response to something excruciatingly sour.  I further notice that if I apply direct pressure to my lateral OA I can "milk" my glands...they literally just begin to flow, providing temporary relief.  I am now a 3rd year medical student who has seen neurologists, rheumatologists, family med, internal med, and even psych docs with no help.  The pain rules my life from my neck through my submandibular gland, parotids (bilateral), tongue, muscles of mastication, and retro-orbital pain.  I to am out thousands of dollars and with no relief, not even a pain med.  I am now beginning to suffer from wrist and hand joint problems due to the ever massaging and pressing on my glands and neck. I have also noticed difficulty with speech, chewing, and have diminished facial expressions.  This sent me on a quest, considering many serious debilitating diseases (oral mandibular dystonia, cervical dystonia, Huntingtons disease, MS, HL, MM)....but in truth it is all about the relentless pain...I am loosing myself to salivary glands. Would love to hear if anyone else has noticed the same.

I began experiencing many of my problems while in anesthesia school. The stress really did a number on my body, as I'm sure it is on yours too. I think most of my TMJ issues were due to griding my teeth (which started in school). I used an over-the-counter mouth guard which seemed to further contribute to the problem as I wore it every night, I really should have went to the dentist and had one made for me. I would definitely suggest this for you. Also, I had many joint aches, diagnosed as osteoarthritis, however, I believe it was more of a rheumatoid issue, and these episodes became more frequent and excruciating....after visiting several doctors and a rheumatologist, I finally went towards a natural approach and I can tell you that I finally feel amazing!!! All my health issues are gone. I eliminated gluten and dairy from my diet, and I felt an immediate change. As soon as I stopped eating dairy, the neck pain I had had for months disappeared! Then I added acupuncture to my life, and I haven't had any joint pain or swelling since. I would highly recommend changing your lifestyle to include these often overlooked easy changes you can do to heal yourself! Also, as a med student, I would encourage you to add natropathic ideas to your practice.

Hello everyone.  I have had 2 paratid gland tumor surgeries and may need a third one.  If you are feeling a string of bumps under your ear or jaw line, it is likely paratid gland tumors.  I live in the Chicago area and can recommend a great ENT.  As for swollen parotid glands, my dr. told me spicey foods can cause the salvatory gland to enlarge.  If this happens the paratid gland tumors can grow along with it.  I hpe this helps.

I get crazy neck pain..definitely in my perotids both sides and other various places in my neck and under my chin. I sometimes also get a stabbing pain in the back of my throat that will be come and go within seconds. I also get tightening in my jaw at times which feels really strange and feels neurological...All of these symptoms come and go but have been hanging around the past few weeks after having strep throat. I also have SIBO and experience weird fleeting chest pains and dry eyes. I'm thinking Sjogren's but haven't seen a rheum. yet. Crazy how so many people get these weird symptoms!

I was having aches/pains, arthritis, dry eyes, and other ailments. I thought it was some kind of autoimmune disease, like rheumatiod arthritis and sjogrens. After lots of time, money, and seeing several doctors, I basically cured myself. I talked with a holistic nutritionist and decided to eliminate wheat and dairy from my diet, as well as try to limit my sugar (all inflammatory foods). Your body can attack itself when you ingest these foods, creating an autoimmune disease like state. I started taking 2 grams of a high quality fish oil a day as well as a whole food multivitamin. Within a few weeks of changing my diet, my symptoms were disappearing; it's now a year later, and I feel the best I ever have. I would highly encourage anyone with any type of 'itis' disease, which means inflammation, to try looking at what they are eating and elimate any inflammatory foods from their diet. It really is true, you are what you eat!!

Having ongoing problems that will continue to worsen over time, I came across this topic unexpectedly. I feel for every post. After several years of describing to doctors and dentists, and then referred to a therapist - I had it! I was a researcher and began to look further. The intense pain that began in my left jaw/ear area turned out to be a permanent anterior dislocation - not covered under my insurance. The swelling of glands, roping, and pain on the right is due to my body attempting to compensate for the other side. I found a great myofascial physical therapist that does facial release for the roping and the glands drain -- puts me in place to be able to eat, sleep, and talk again. A British researcher explained to me that the U.S. considers the mandible a dental issue. Unfortunately since the mandible is the highest joint in the body that any disruption to it causes a descending reaction to the neck, cervical, thoracic -- all the way down. He was right. I have been trying to manage this for seven years now (that was when I finally got someone to stop calling my jaw a "simple case of TMJ), and went to battle on my own. I am so sorry for anyone having these issues. The face has so very many nerves and muscles that the pain can take your breath away -- and the symptoms go on deaf ears. I can say, don't chew gum; much better to cut food and not bite into it; use moist heat and sometimes cool cloths; try facial release if you can (it does help); limit facial animation when you talk, smile, etc.; and if in a mega flair - don't talk. Most helpful is that I never, ever put a cell phone or phone to my ears -- I always use speaker phones; and don't put anything in your ears (that nerve behind is the most sensitive and the most painful. Hope something here helps :)

Omg. Literally this has been happening to me at random times especially when I eat or drink something sweet. Like I can't even eat pineapple when the swelling occurs. The taste just makes my jaw under my right ear lobe hurt real bad. I hate it i hate it. >:(
