I have also been dealing with this problem off an on for over three years now. I honestly think that I'm going to live with this the rest if my life and I'm sixteen. It's so depressing. I also know its not sex because it starts before I became sexually active. I've seen doctors and gynecologists. They still don't know the culprit. Many suggest to not wear tight clothing and making sure that my "area" is completely dry after showering before putting on clothes. I have another appointment tomorrow because its really bad again. I hope we all can figure this out because its miserable. Good luck everyone. God bless.

I've just put some cod liver oil to soothe it a bit and i can't believe it did! Before i used canesten and it made it worse, woke up at night and trying to find solution I read here on the internet about intake of fish oil, but i only applied it on affected area and it works for now. Don't know for how long though. Also intake of vitamin B is recommended, so I'm going to find some.God bless!

A STD called chlamydia may be the culprit.

The itching occurs during the day as well but is not as intense. The area is very painfully dry. In the evening it is horendess a sitz bath brings some relief. Ice or heat also bring some relief and have also tried benedryl and 2.5 cortisone cream. Is there something over the counter I can take. I do not have a doctor or the money for urgicare services. I am over sixty post menoposal and am not having sex. Please help.

Hi ladies, for those of you who are saying your vaginal lips are swelling and it hurts to sit or stand. Go to the store and get witch hazel wipes. Pat them GENTLY on your lips and around the vagina (do not go in the vagina as it is external only) this should bring the swelling down. Unfortunately it doesn't help with the itch but if I find something will be back :) good luck.

Consider Scabies or Lichen Sclerosis.  It is unlikely to be "what you eat" in this case.  Doctors are VERY ignorant about these symptoms.

So I've recently had a ongoing bout of 'thrush'. Three times in 2 1/2 months! My symptoms were similar to a lot of what women described on here, the insane itchiness to the point I couldn't sleep!

It probably isn't the case for everyone but some may need to consider pinworm infection. The worms can travel from the back to the front and cause thrush-like symptoms which can lead to a misdiagnosis. Very easy to treat and usually kids are the first infected but it is fairly common in the western areas at least. I don't have kids myself but recently babysat and turns out that was what started the infection. As I said it may not be the case for everyone here but i hope it helps someone!

Ater years of dealing with a similar situations to most of you and countless trips to ob/gyn that kept telling me nothing was wrong, i went to an dermatologist who prescribed me two creams clobetsol and euracisa(sp?). I alternated 2 the creams using each for 2 weeks for almost 2 months. The doctor was very strixt with the clobetasol bc its so strong and after the 2 months of alternating she took me off, but continued to use the other nonsteriod cream made for ezcema (eurasia) every now and then but barely really have to. I mainly use once a day or every other day just to make it never comes back.. none of them burned surprisingly bc i tore my skin up mostly at night prior to the creams. After 3 days to a week i noticed a difference, after 2 weeks was fine ever since. Also i take apple cidar baths as well and drink alkaline water, limit sugars, get your daily vitamins, find ways to de-stress just to be safe bc i spent abt 4 years dealing with it.
