Thanks for the advice. I actually found out why my lips were irritated - I had an allergic reaction to a sleeping tablet medication. Zolpidem was the drug that I discovered I am allergic to

To Biosleuth: Sounds like you have a yeast problem as many others in this post. Try Cyclodan Cream. It's a prescription. Use sparingly and start taking probiotics. You'll be amazed. Antibiotics are of grave concern. They help but they also have their downfall.

After taking a larger dose than normal of a nutritional product, glucosamine, chongroitin and MSM for joint and arthiritus pain, I developed a terrible rash, head to toe and especially dry, raw lips with small blisters inside my lips. I believe this was a shellfish reaction (an ingredient) plus I was in the hot sun for an extended period of time. Researching this I found the same could occur from larger doses of NSAID's (non-steroidal,anti-inflammatory drugs) such as Aleve or Motrin. Be careful what you take and mix with the sun. Terrible things can happen as a result.

Okay, so 3 almost 4 years ago my lips and especially the skin around my lips began to get red, dry, itchy, flakey. Sometimes even blistery looking. I have tried EVERYTHING. Over the counter and from the dermatologist. I was referred to an allergy specialist bc they believe it's food allergy. One problem... I don't have 2,700 dollars laying around to have allergy testing done. I have went on trial runs of cutting dairy and gluten from my diet to no avail. I'm going to try cutting out soy next but I'm just getting so frustrated. It's embarrassing and uncomfortable! Does anyone have any other ideas?! Please help.

Has anyone ever considered that these symptoms may be cold sores? I only ask because that is what my issue is. It's the middle of winter here and i've been experiencing, chapped bleeding lips, swelling and itching and each time it is just a cold sore rearing it's head. Some anbesol or Abreva have helped, also vitamins preferably vitamin C and E and vaseline or blistex have eased the irritation

Had the same problem described here. Dermatologist told me it was contact dermatitis but we never could figure out what I was coming in contact with that caused the problem. Dermatologist told me NOT to use Vaseline or over the counter lip products. Instead he recommended Vaniply which you buy from the pharmacist. You don't need a prescription but they may need to order it for you. It is a lot like Vaseline but with no additives. Using that for a few days always seems to clear it up.

I'm in the same boat, I had this swelling burning cracking itching last year for 3 months, then its went away over the winter and came back worse in the spring now I have had it for 4 + months. I have been to several Doctors, been checked for mouth yeast infection had allery scratch and patch testing, blood tests, I have stopped and started medications, tried Benadryl and prednisone internally and I have tried everything on my lips ( everything that all you others have listed in their write up's) . All to no avail. No Dr can say for sure what it is. Mine ebes and flows in how bad it is, but it never goes away. the only product that offers some relief is L-lysine a product for cold sores, but food burns and its hard to get through a meal without applying lips treatments throughout. My next stop is a skin Dr. I will let you know if anything comes of it. But if any of you find answers, please please post.

I had this problem too, I found out it was a gluten allergy. Try monitoring your gluten intake for 2 weeks and see how this affects it. Also use coconut oil as a lip moisturizer.
