I have COPD & currently take Symbicort. I have taken different meds like Advair, several different inhalers like pro air, ventalin and Xiobcan ( spelled wrong ), and I have a nebulizer which uses albuterol. I am 49. I was diagnosed 3 years ago. I had already quit smoking.
I have been the same size since I was 15. My weight was 118lb - 122lb. Today, I weigh 157lbs. Yes, it is bc of the medicines. All of the them can make you gain weight. The nebulizer can cause fluid retention. Don't listen to anyone that tells you they don't cause weight gain. They do. They also will give you medicine induced pre diabetes or diabetes. Then you will be diagnosed with high cholesterol and probably some kind of pulmonary problem, as, this medicine will harden the right side of your heart. Dead bones is a possibility too.
As if the weight gain, isn't depressing enough, right.
As the good Dr. said, use it only when necessary. I have found Nutrition & Exercise are very important to my health, there is a direct correlation between them and my ability to breath easily.

I've been working out like crazy! And I've barely eaten anything. This is crazy.
I've been working out like crazy and not eating much. This is crazy.
My husband said that it contains steroids and anything that contains steroids is going to make you gain weight. Is that true??? I can't lose the extra weight.
Please don't say Symbicort does not make you gain weight because it like all medication reacts differently with each patient.
