What would be the good diet for my dog with Addison's disease?

I wish I had known this. My beloved Macy went into crisis and I got her to the vet. It took them 2 days to figure out that it was Addison's. She is still recovering from crisis but adores her chicken and rice. I make a broth with the chicken (NO ONIONS!) and then cook the rice in the broth. I hope we can get her stabilized. But she actually barked at something out side the other day! I was never so happy as I was to hear that bark! Thank you for the information and encouragement!

I too have a dog with Addison’s she has had 3 major episodes as her disease has progressed. I give her Porcortin V once a month order on line from Chewy. I feed her fresh pet twice a day and she stakes a steroid once a day. It is a hard disease to manage. I have had many sleepless nights with her had to force feed her for a week to get over her last crises. It take patience. She is the most loving and sweetest dog I have ever had. She is also the only dog I ever had with a major illness like this. When she is feeling good she is loving and even smiles. I have found a salmon topper that seems to help with her food. Try to make sure she is eating and drinking water. It’s a little hardest to manage as I have two other dogs with her so I make sure she eats hard to know always who is drinking water so I keep several water bowls around the house for all of them.

Yes lots of visits to the vet. This is not an easy disease and it can be very costly to manage. I had decided early on as long as she is happy and not miserable I will treat her until I can no longer do so. The vet did tell me the disease will eventually be in treatable it has been 6 years now and I can see her progression but she is still happy and so we truck on. She gets moody the steroids can do that. Again she is the sweetest most loving dog I have ever had I have had dogs all my life. I have tried different foods and fresh pet seems to be the best for her along with the salmon topper I feed her chicken most of the time. Found the salmon topper on chewy it is a salmon, lamb freeze dried blend. It has much needed potassium and also use Ruff Greens it helps as well all the dogs love both and they all have healthy coats.

I hope this helps

PS onions kill the gut bio in dogs and can kill them do not feed dogs onions

I love your message. You probably won't see this as you wrote a year ago, hope Sweetie is still managing. Well done to you for your love and commitment to your dog, you make my heart sing. I also have a dog with Addisons, diagnosed a year ago after three months of misdiagnosis and intermittent shock and shut down, almost lost him. Now on meds for life. Special boy, could never let him down.
