This year I started getting chemical peels on my back and that has helped tremendously. Clears away old skin so nothing can get clogged.
I never did any harsh acne medications. I drink tons of water, avoid greasy foods and dairy. If I do eat dairy it's organic whole milk or yogurt or yellow cheeses. For some reason white cheeses make me break out. I also incorporate fish oil and vitamin packs in moderation and try to eat more line caught fish than other proteins.
I also puncture and excise the cysts on my neck with an 11 point blade. i do have a higher pain tolerance but once you reach the cyst there is no feeling there. I make sure I am clean, use alchol pads before and after and voila, cysts less noticeable and heals quickly. A little iodine stops infection which I've never had an issue with. If you have a family member you are comfortable with they can do this as well. I bought the supplies on amazon for about $50 total and they last a long time.
For body wash and lotion I use cetaphil or the new cetaphil for oily skin, works great.
i have able to get this more under control with a little patience and persistence. keep at it guys. And don't be afraid to puncture and excise these little guys yourself!
Question for anyone who has tried to remove any on their own - how are they healing? Would you mind sharing before and after pictures with me, if you have any? Also, have you been successful in removing the sac from the cysts without puncturing or traumatizing your skin too much? Dr. Pimple popper has many videos on her excisions and she often needs to give the patients a stitch per cyst.
Glad to know there's such a supportive community. It often feels like I'm alone in this experience, especially when summer time rolls around :(
I should mention that there is a Steatocystoma Facebook group that can be joined. However it has Spanish title "esteocistoma multiple/steatocystoma multiplex)
I have read quite a number of the posts on this site, but not all, so may well be repeating something here. I am 65 years of age now and have had SM for as long as I can remember. I have suffered with many eruptions over the years, mostly in awkward places and the embarrassment like many of you and for me, as a competitive swimmer all my life, it was always uncomfortable and embarrassing. I am lucky not to have any on my face or legs. I have them removed when they get too much to deal with but I have removed hundreds by puncturing them with a sterilised needle without ever infecting the area or leaving a scar.
The bad news is that as you all know by now, there is no cure and you just have to live with it. One of my daughters, now 33 yo, has the worst case I have ever seen as they are everywhere. She has accepted her lot in life and doesn't care what people think or if they stare, she just moves on.
Best wishes to you all
O'Timer.
Im in SG as well and have had SM for 2-3 years now (I'm 21). Are you still visiting your Derma Lim Kar Seng? I plan to have it checked out as it's been growing quite noticeably on my trunk area. Is he still avail and what are his rates like?
hope for a reply, and press on guys!
Hi. I have seen many dermatologist as well. Only one had been willing to do the laser and I was an id**t since I never went back and hence, moved.
I am taking accutane now and am hoping to see some results. Have you heard of anyone having any positive results?
