I'm 13 now and I've been dealing with this since I hit puberty so around 10-11 years old. I've had pretty much the same symptoms as all of you guys. The yellow flakey/crusty flakes around my nipple that appeared pretty randomly. I'm not sure if I should just pick them all off or what. They also hurt pretty badly if I do pick them off, I can't find ANY other information on this. What seems to help with the ichyness or the soreness after picking and even to keep the yellow demons down I recommend soaking a washcloth in warm-hot water then holding them onto your nipples.

Pregnant with my first child and I think it has a lot to do with pregnancy and shedding of old skin cells. As long as you still see a healthy nipple, you’re okie dokie!

I've already replied to this thread before, but I'm worried that mine is dried discharge and what that means! Although I've never seen any actual discharge. It's been happening for years now, since I was probably in my late teens, but I'm too scared to get it looked at.

Edit: I'm also still confused as to whether or not it's skin, the pieces sort of have the consistency of dried "stuff", but when I pick them out, my nipple looks "open" as if it's missing cracked skin that should be there. This is so weird.

I'm a teen too and have naturally brown areolas and nipples. However small bits/pieces of my nipples sometimes turn hard and sometimes darker and then turn bothersome till they fall off because they are attached to sensitive skin. However, the skin grows back. Am i at a risk of something? Someone help me out and if anyone finds a solution to this problem please share it.

Ok guys here's my solution to it. I have had the same issue since I was around 14 and I am 23 now.I have super dry skin and I never really cared much and rarely moisturized. So during past 4 months what I did was make a hydrating nipple cream ( VASELINE,COCONUT OIL,OLIVE OIL equal parts), took sufficient quantity of it and applied it everyday with rubbing gently (to increase blood flow to the area)until it absorbed completely. Believe me girls, nipples are far far better now and growing out just fine. The dry part does come off slowly at first but the regrowth is normal and looks normal. I hope it helps.

Hey everybody, I've been following and replying to this page for years. This all started when I hit puberty, I'm nearly 20 now and things have improved. In my circumstance, I put it down to dryness, lack of fresh air and maybe just hormones. I used to NEVER take my bra off because I was so scared of my nipples getting caught, but for at least a year now I have slept every single night braless, and believe me it does help. I started off with fairly tight things like vests, and now I can wear t-shirts which help even more because more fresh air can get to your chest. I think moisturing and keeping yourself clean is very important. I bathe in a bikini top but I always allow my breasts to soak in completely plain and warm water. I saw a comment about making moisturizer for nipples, I think that would be a great thing to try. I have been using a lot of aloe vera on my skin in general so I might try a bit of aloe on it or coconut oil. I 100% believe that the solution is going to have to be a natural one for those of us who don't want to go to the doctor and aren't pregnant (if you are pregnant and have this, I strongly advise you to see a doctor if you are worried because it's VERY common in pregnant women).

Lanolin is a cream that can be applied for women who are breastfeeding, and it is not necessary to wash it off before feeding the baby because it is 100% natural.

If u have an indentation in your nipple then it's breast cancer . Plz check with your doctor

Let's not jump to any conclusions regarding it being cancer, but YES, everyone, please see your doctor!

I've had this issue myself since puberty, over 20 years ago, and I've been following this thread. After some sleuthing, I think that what an earlier commenter said has a high possibility of being correct for many of us--HYPERKERATOSIS OF THE NIPPLE (some people call it NHNA, or Nevoid hyperkeratosis of the nipple.) You can look it up if you need more information.

To assuage the minds of everyone here, as I know I was worried about it when I was younger, it seems like (from what I researched), it is a stand-alone, BENIGN skin ailment where the skin thickens up. It's related to hormonal changes, which is why many women get it either during puberty or during pregnancy.

It looks like there is no "one and only" cure as it is not that widely known about but people have tried and had varying degrees of success with things like topical steroids, a carbon dioxide laser, shave excision, and other things. It seems like after this diagnosis you are either sent to a dermatologist for a prescription for some topical cream or to a plastic surgeon for a laser or excision.

Having hyperkeratosis of the nipples does not necessarily mean you have cancer or anything else. HOWEVER, please check with your doctor as whatever you have might not be that, and it might be something like Paget's disease, eczema, Bowen's disease, dermatophytosis, or superficial basal cell carcinoma, or something else.

But it also could not be. So just breathe, relax, and go see your doctor! It seems like this is a relatively unknown condition so it helps to go to your doctor so that it can become more well-known and we can have better solutions and treatments for it. Don't worry about being embarrassed, doctors have seen a whole bunch of stuff and they're there to help you figure this out.

If all of us have it i don't think it's anything bad probably is normal I would talk to the Dr and not be embarrassed or worried..u don't know them and they won't make fun of u the beat thing about it u can talk about anything and never see them again unless something is wrong or need to be talked about.. so ladies never feel nervous speaking with them it's very important ..I will look and ask and get back to u about what my Dr says about it ..in the mean time all of u should do the same
