I am pregnant now, so I am on a vacation from my period. I got pregnant on my wedding night. But whenever I did get my period, I used to get nausious and had camps and headaches. My doctor told me it would go away after I have a baby. I will find out if she is telling the truth in June, when my baby is born.
I'm 25 now, but had the exact same thing happen to me throughout my teenage years. It was utterly awful and I feel for you. Some other things people have already posted definitely helped to alleviate symptoms. When I was about 21, I started taking 1T of Udo's Oil a day. From then on, it totally cleared the problem. I have no idea why - perhaps I was lacking Essential Fatty Acids, but I haven't really had the problem since. It happens occasionally, maybe 1 -2x/year, but then again, I'm not as faithful at taking the oil as I used to be. I really hope you find something that works, but I'd try looking to your diet as well and maybe considering trying what I did.
I've had my period since I was ten and it has been regular ever since I was ten. I've only had severely bad cramps maybe 4 or 5 times where throwing up resulted in like three of those times. 1 of the times I was already sick and my asthma was acting up so with the heat, my asthma, the cramps I was uncomfortable and I think my stomach just couldn't handle it all and I threw up. Two other times I really don't know why I was so sick, but I believe one of the times it had to do with nutrition. I don't think I was getting enough calcium because I was shaking, nausious and everything but I was really hungry so I ate a piece of pizza [cheese] and I felt a lot better. I also cannot take Midol, because my blood is bright red and I feel like I am bleeding instead of just flowing (because it's not all blood that comes out of you). I'd talk to your doctor, maybe you aren't eating right or maybe you are allergic to the pain relievers you are taking.

I've basically been going through the same thing as the girl at the top, though its only happened to me twice. I first got my period when i was eleven and now I'm thirteen. Last month, on the first day of my period, I woke up with a really bad cramp then threw up. Then, this morning, the first day again, i woke up okay, went back to sleep, then woke up again about two hours later. I stretched a bit and decided to take a warm shower, but I found myself running out of the shower and throwing up in the toilet. I really hate this and it's going to be kinda embarrassing if this continues once school starts again...
Every female in my family has this problem. We feel very faint and naseous. I have discovered that we react very strongly to the hormone drop that facilitates the start of the menstrual cycle.
Once we throw up, we feel instantly better. This is from the same hormone that causes morning sickness. During early pregnancy, we feel sick and faint, throw up and then go about our day.
The school is very familiar with us now. My daughter throws up in the health office once a month and then goes back to class.
It lessens with age.

I've had very similar problems. With me, it's odd 'cos the amount of severity changes quite a lot. I've had my period ever since I was 12 going on 13, and from the beginning I would have to lie down on the bed in the school nurse's office and throw up into a bucket...sometimes.
In general I always feel worst on my first day, but symptoms run the gauntlet from not only throwing up but being so dizzy and faint I actually do pass out/feel woozy, loose all sense of time, to being basically conscious but unable to stop having the dry heaves for 24 hours straight and not being able to sleep, to just having ordinary cramps and feeling "stomped".
Sometimes I curl up on the floor and cry and ask passers-by to "kill me" so I don't have to feel this way anymore, sometimes not. On the times I've felt faint, I've almost wonked my head in the bathtub once and another time, did hit my head on the edge of a table on the way down! It seems my body has it in for me.
I would take iron/eat foods with iron in them, but with being unable to keep even water down...
Anyway, thanks for all the advice guys.

I've had the same thing I'm 18 and i started my period when i was 10. it's only happened to me twice now. but mines like the 2nd and 3rd day of my period not the first day. i called my doctor and they told me to take 3 Advil for the pain, and to go see a gnyo (i have no idea what a birth control doctor would do for me). any ways I'm suppose to start in two days, I'm nervous and scared that I'm gonna be in so much pain that i throw up again.
An OBGYN is not just a "birth control doctor" . They specialise in reproductive health. You should be going every two years to get a check up and cancer screenings. Check into it, they may be better equiped to help you with your problem than your regular doctor. :D Hope you feel better soon.
I just went through this TODAY..it happens every 6 months for me....like I can time it...I'll be going through this same thing in April, I can count on it.
But what I did, after all the screaming and everything that freaked my boyfriend and roomate out....I laid down, not completely in the fetal position, but with my legs bent like I was sitting on a chair next to me...and, yea this is gonna sound weird, tried to calm my breathing and concentrated on the American flag waving in the wind...weird, yes, I know but it worked...Not immediately of course but eventually, sleep caught up to me and the next thing I knew, 2 hours later I woke up feeling refreshed. I lay in bed all day after that just making sure that devilish feeling wouldn't come back...But I'm good now...I hope that helps you!

Hi ladies
I see the one woman's advice is to stop drinking caffeine. She lists good reasons for saying this.
But...
I drink more caffeine while I have my period -- seeing that caffeine is a natural pain reliever FOR WOMEN ONLY. It does not have the same effect on men.
Different strokes for different folks... Caffeine helps for my pain -- and I get severe pains basically every month!
Good luck -- we all know that this type of pain sucks!

I know the kind of pain the topic starter is referring to. I got my period at 12 and it was bad for a while. It got better in high school, but once I hit college I would have at least 1 period a year that had me doubled over in pain and having fevers. After college it got better I assume because I started taking better care of myself and exercising more. I lay off coffee a week before I am due to start my period and I kick up my workout a bit more. But the week of my period I make sure and relax and take time for myself. Today is the first day of my period and I have a twinge of cramps, but I took 2 Aleve and they should be gone shortly.
I do know for a fact...drinking 3-4 glasses of lemonjuice with cold water during a period.....lessens the cramps...eliminates headaches and backaches and lessens bleeding and bloating....try it for yourself and you will be amazed.
hi
i'm 30 years old. never had any problems with my periods my whole life. always had easy going periods, though on the irregular side but never any very painful cramps or nausea.
the last 4 periods i've had have been awful. a few hours after menstruation i get chills, fever, aches and pains - and like the girl above, can't sit still. this is from the fever as it always makes me want to 'rock' in the bed, or pace up and down or fidget if i'm in a public place. i would just go to bed that night and 'sweat it out' like as if i had a cold with fever. except the fever and aches and pains are the only symptons - no sore throat or blocked nose etc.
i'd wake up on day 2 and feel normal again.
however the last period i've had/having has been the worst so far. the fever has lasted well into the night of day 2, i have had the most SEVERE abdominal pains. so painful that i don't know what position to get into and i scream out in pain. i think because a 'number 2' is making it's way round and it is irritating my pelvic region. i feel nausea, i almost want to puke, mild headaches.
seen the nurse and GP - they have no idea. nurse said i could be anaemic. doctor said it might be a 'pelvic inflammatory disease'. they sent me to A&E where I was seen by no less than 7 different staff. they took my blood pressure, pulse. Pulse was extremely high - 123 and fever was 38C. they put me on a bed, squished my abdomen 'does this hurt?' etc. they gave me 2 ibuprofen and 2 paracetamol. the geniuses came back after an hour and recorded that my fever had fallen ' NO sh*t!!!! THAT WOULD BE THE PILLS YOU GAVE ME!'.
ESG was fine. Urine test was fine even though i had my period....
then the last doctor came to see me and said i had a urinary infection. i asked if it showed in the urine test he said no. i asked him why it would come every time i had my period and he asked me 'are you sure you get ill during the periods? you sure about the dates?'. as you can imagine i was very frustrated as he obviously didn't believe that it was related.
i asked him if it could be 'endemetriosis' and he said it wasn't because the illness goes on the first day. so i say 'well, this is the night of day 2!'. he didn't give a sh*t and by that point i just wanted to go home and get warm after being in A&E for 3 hours.
so now waiting to see a specialist.

I have the same problem too! i was vomiting and having severe cramps to the point where i'm laying in the shower with the hot water hitting my lower back. it sounds absolutely ridiculous, but it's the only thing that helps. and Mydol.
it only occurs on my first day.. this has happened for my last 3 periods also. and my last period, i actually had a mood swing. i don't want to go to the doctor's and get some penis and bull diagnosis and then nothing changes. since i only get my period for 4 days, the medication might start working on my last day. so yea, i don't really want to waste money on that and have to go to a lot of doctors just to get a diagnosis on what i have.
anyone have any ideas on what i can do?
