I had my thyroid removed about 3 years ago. I just now started experiencing this annoying tightening sensation for a few weeks now. I have been under A LOT of stress lately. Maybe there is a coralation between the two.

I've recently started feeling this tightening sensation too and it's been at least 3 years since my surgery! The only thing that I wonder could MAYBE be causing this is how much stress I've been under the last several weeks. Don't know just a REALLY annoying symptom to an already growing list. :(

I also had most of my thyroid removed on March 2015. I had 3 nodules the size of cuties. As of today December 14th I am feeling swelling and tightness in my throat where my scar is. I will make another appointment after my Quest labs comes back. Its so unbearable I take 800 mil of ibuprofen for my back, and I still feel the tightness. I heard it was possibly scar tissue. Or they had mentioned they might have to remove what of my thyroid I had barley left. I wish I had the answers.

I am amazed that all of these other people are having the same symptoms as me. There must be something going on here. This warrants more research. I had a TT 3 years ago and have been battling this tightness/lump in my throat feeling ever since. I DO have some acid reflux on top of it which hasn't helped with anxiety when my throat hurts and I can ABSOLUTELY feel it more when I'm stressed out... which is anytime I'm driving, thinking, reading... you get the idea.

Thank you all for sharing. Has anyone had any luck with solutions? All of my internet searching for neck tension leads me to the BACK of the neck, not the front, by the scar. I think what's happening to me is that I need to re-train my brain to get used to this "new" sensation of no thyroid tissue. I can feel the missing piece and it's freaking my brain out. Maybe I need to see a psych, I dunno.

I had the same surgery and felt tightness with difficulty to swallow. I was told that scar tissue was the issue and to pull the insion site to make sure scar tissue could not continue to form. I did this continuosly for a while. My situation improved immensely. No more issues.

Hi all,

Has anyone experienced any facial tingling/feeling of novacain wearing off post TT (i am not numb, i can feel everything). I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's at 17years old and had my thyroid removed last year, at 30 years old, after being diagnosed with Papillary thyroid cancer. Following my surgery I felt the tightness and fullness, which subsided in a few months time. At about 8 or 9 months post thryroid surgery, i began to feel facial tingling/numbness on my left side. I have had an MRI of my brain and cervical spine which came back normal. My last ultrasound showed lymph nodes in my thyroid bed, and my endocrinologist said sometimes scar tissue can appear as so. I was wondering if anyone has felt the facial numbness and neck muscle tightness and pain more than 6 months after their surgery. Also, i feel worse now (fatigue and muscle/joint ache) than i did when I had my thyroid. After surgery i was told that one lobe functioned perfectly fine, it was mine and my surgeons decision to fully remove in the event of a cancer re-occurrence. Does anyone else feel the same post TT?

I had my thyroidectomy two months ago, and was told by my doctor that it could take up to 6 months before everything is back to normal...my voice, the swelling from the incision, and the overall uncomfortable feeling when I swallow. Now, 2 months later my voice is still raspy & low, and very stressful when I try to raise my voice. The swelling around the incision has gone way down, and there's never been pain there except for the numbness, which should eventually disappear. All in all I'm satisfied with the way things are regarding my voice because I know that'll take time, and the incision. But what has me worried is the pressure in and around my throat. Every time I swallow it feels like there's a lump in my throat, making swallowing an effort! It feels like the inside of my throat is swollen, and at times I'm afraid that it's closing up & wouldn't be able to breathe! I've tried googling to see exactly what happens to the INSIDE of your throat when you have this operation, but haven't found anything to say...yes you'll have swelling on the inside, but that's normal & it'll get better...If I was told this then I could relax! So I wish all these medical experts with their sites would just spell it out simply for us...not just what to expect before & after, but what exactly was done on the inside, and what it looks like after the surgery! Thanks

I am feeling the exact same thing now a month after a partial thyroidectomy. I know it has been some time since your initial post, but was wondering how you are feeling today? Did you go forward with any other procedures? Can't imagine feeling like this for the rest of my life!!!

I am going to see a dr that practices all natural meds. This lump feels so big after thyroidectomy. I have been hearing really good things about Dr. Gray in Crossville Tennnessee

Hello , I had a full thyroidectomy 2 months ago. And I experienced the choking and feeling like I couldn't breathe. No one said anything about anxiety. It's gotten better , not an experience I want to go through again
