Hi there, DON'T loss you job. I have 3 year old boy and started coughing when he was two. we've been to the ER at least 10 times for the past year. The Albuterol isn't doing it for him anymore so the doctor gave him QVAR. it works like magic but we have to give him two buffs a day to keep the cough away. QVAR is a bit pricy (270$) or at least the one I've been getting him is expensive. But it helps the poor baby to have a normal life to play and run around. Good luck

WHY do people assume we haven't tried everything else! get your smug head out of your ass - we've tried new bed, new room, no carpet, dehumidifier, humidifier, elevation, etc... sometimes it is in your child's best interest to try EVERYTHING including pharma. GRR - this kind of "did you think to try" bs is why my step-daughter went YEARS without a proper diagnosis (her issue is psychological, but the same rule applies - people accuse us of giving up because we medicate her!). end rant.

My son was like that at 1 and the doctors kept saying nothing is wrong finally I took him to my doctor instead of his doctor turned out he has pneumonia and it was really bad. He ended up getting it twice after each other and wasn't cleared for 6 months. Now he's starting again w the cough which is scary. Every time it starts I get worried. Always trust ur gut if ur doctor says oh its nothing take ur kids somewhere else and get different opinions.

My son has the same and I found out about Buteyko breathing and it has been amazing and so wonderful to see my three year old take control of his own coughing just by breathing slightly differently.

It's allergies people. Allergies. I have a daughter who turns 3 yrs old in 3 months. She was fine up until a week ago when we started doing some remodeling around our house. There has been dust all over the house and as much as I try to vacuum and dust everything clean  she has been having these coughing fits all week. At night too during her sleep...she wakes up 2 or 3 times a night couging to the point where she is on the verge of vomiting. Finally yesterday, right before bed, I did a nasal rinse on her. Naturally she cried and hated it but I did it. Then, an hour later I put saline drops in her nose again (more crying) and had her blow her nose in a tissue to the best of her little 2 year old ability. Use a nose suction if you have to. She coughed a little, trying to clear her throat. I tried to rinse out anything that might be irritating her ears, nose, throat.  Then, 5 ml of Benadryl and a lot of water. She has been much better the last 2 evenings, sleeping soundly. She's woken up a couple of times, coughs 2 or 3 times but goes back to bed. Nothing compared to that choking cough that had me worried. I really think the nasal rinses and 'gargles' with the water have helped. That's my advice, try to flush out any irritants in your child's nose, moisturize it with saline drops and of course have them gargle water and later give them a glass or two of water to drink so it soothes their throat/tonsils if they're irritated. a little bit of honey for them to swallow might help too. I see a huge improvement the last 2 nights. Good luck.

Hi all I have a 4 years son and he suffers the same problem of night coughing. I believe three things should be considered: 1. Check if the child is allergic to mites and if so wash bed sheets and pillow cases with hot water more often and try to get some anti mite bed sheets and pillow cases; 2. Nasal cleaning is essential. I use the single dose units of physiomer, lay my kid on my lap with his head looking side ways and sprays the unit in his nostrils; 2 in each nostril and it is very effective. 3. Some allergy syrups like Aerus work very good. Please do not jump to conclusions that your kid has asthma just because he vomits after coughing. Vomiting is the body reaction to drive out all phlegm blocking the airways. Young children do not know how to clear their throats and when they sleep the mucus falls in their throats instead on going out their nose because their nose is usually blocked and the nasal airways are still too small to evacuate everything. This i absolutely universal and all children in principle have this defence mechanism of throwing up. It is heart breaking and emotionally draining for parents but it is somehow healthy for kids.

My son will be 4 in July. He has had a constant cough since 6 months old and it's an every night thing with him. He coughs about every hour, throws up every night and also sweating. He has repeat pneumonia and bronchitis. Then also has had rsv as well. He is on singular, albuterol and Advair inhalers, Flonase and nebulizer using Albuterol sulfate. He sees a lung specialist already and this is an every other week if not every week thing in the Drs office and they honestly can never tell me why he's like this. Except allergies or asthma. He is being tested for cystic fibrosis at the end of June so we will wait and see for that.So if any of you have any ideas for me to try please let me know as well. Thanks so much and hoping your little ones get some relief.

My son has had the night cough for years, off and on. I took him to the allergist. He got a 20+mm mark from dust mites. We got him a memory foam mattress, change the bedding daily, hepa filter vacuum his room, and nebulize him when the coughing starts. He has a slight tracheomalasia so coughing hard causes him to go into a spiral of coughing that ends in vomiting. Since we started keeping his room dust mite reduced and go the nebulizer he has only rarely had those nasty coughing fits. So I guess it pays to have all the specialist look at these kids as there are related problems the normal specialists miss.

My son had a constant cough for a year and 1/2 finally some relief with singular, no more coughing at night, however I'm not so sure it does not cause night terrors after doing some research and reading it all started about the same time where he wakes up frantic and crying, could just be a stage anyway

I have a child with asthma who used to cough every night. A neighbor told me about essential oils and we've been diffusing nightly in my sons room. Much to our skeptism, it works! I did my research and purchased young living oils, the allergy trio and RC. Google it and you'll find a ton of info. Just make sure your child is old enough, especially for RC.

I went through 9 months of hell with my daughter when she was 2 1/2 and doctors clearly didn't know what to blame it on. After all sorts if meds and hospital stays ( w IV in her little arm) we took her to ENT in Ardsley, NY who found that her adenoids were enlarged and had to be removed. They were removed that April and by June-July the cough was gone. We took her to 3 ENT's before this one and one ENT suggested her adenoids and tonsils had to be removed. The ENT I chose to believe said "she just needs the adenoids removed, tonsils are normal and it causes more pain in recovery to remove them- no need to do that." It took all sorts of doctors and a plethora of meds for us to finally find out what was wrong. So sad and so stressful. I refer to that time in our lives as the year from hell. I am so thankful it is over. I hope that you find the same peace.

Were you able to resolve this? If yes, how? My son who is three years old has the same issue.
