regarding you 12 old son, I think he should attend a special education class - this help his learning and he will not get picked.

I also, think some sedation medication may help.

I am not medical doctor. So, make sure you consult with medical doctor.

As far as I know there is no cure for tourettes but do not worry as most people lead normal lives. For example Tim Howard (goalie for USA world cup soccer team) has it and obviously he is very successful. Tell that to your kids who have it and have been told they are sick. They are NOT SICK! They are special!

its very comon for the tics to change, especiallythe volcal, my 9yr old son has it, and it seems like every 3mths or so the vocal aspect of it changes, it starts out as blowing, then throat clearing, then to almost spitting, now its a short screech, i dont really pay attention to them as im used to it, and his friends at school dont tease him so he is all good with it, he knows hes just a little different and thats all, it makes him who he is

:'( I remember in school I pickmed on a kid that has turrettes and thought he just did it for the attention. Now that I have discovered my 11 year old has this It breaks my heart and I cry every night over this. I just pray that He does not get made fun of by other kids. and adults.

My son, soon to be five has recently been having a vocal tic. When I noticed it, I gently told him to stop doing it. I can tell he tries really hard but it is not really working. He is a really smart boy. At 4 he can already read and knows a lot about a lot of things. What pains me is that he is already suspected to have a mental disorder. As a mother, I think it is terrible for a person to go through the pain and agony of being made fun of. I understand that there are a lot of people who feel that their difference made them a better person. But, I'm sure at one point in their lives they sought it as a curse. What become of the people who never make that transition?
