After 5 years of the Mirena IUD I can honestly say that I had to deal with a number of issues, the odor never went away, no matter what I tried, initially when I asked the Dr. about it here said he thought my ph balances were off. He told me there were ph balancing douche I could use, I could eay more yogurt, I could drink buttermilk, I could eat more cottage cheese, but nothing had worked. I have gained weight throughout the entire 5 years of use and I can only pray I lose some of it now that I had it taken out. But the most difficult part of using it was getting it taken out. My Dr. currently the strings too short and they weren't able to find it. As a result I had to have a second appointment to have an ultrasound done to locate it. Once they located it, I had to go back a third time to have a procedure done to fish it out. All I can say is that it hurts and I will NEVER do that again! If it wasn't for my health insurance insisting on a step therapy plan to address severely painful periods in lieu of having a hysterectomy, I would never have used one and I will never use another one!
sorry about the typos, I hate auto correct
Hi guys! I know there's a lot going on about the iud's but I think I figured out the smell thing. I wanted to share what I tried. I looked up what things are good to eat to make you smell and taste good down there. I increased my vitamin C intake and the smell gradually faded. I also stopped wearing liners everyday, they keep the musky smell in. Just wear cotton undies. Eat things that are good and light and it'll keep everything smelling fresh. You have to change your diet when on the iud in order to help your body adapt because you put a foreign object inside of yourself, so you have to take care of yourself and change some habits. I hope this helps!
Try using all natural geek yogurt! It has live bacteria in it that will help level out the good and bad bacteria in your vagina (which is what causes the bad smell and discharge) something has thrown off your natural ph balance and you can replace it with natural yogurt
I'm so happy I found this forum! I thought I was losing my mind. I have had Liletta in since 2/14, then on 3/10 the smell started and today is 3/24. I knew it had to be the IUD because it's a different smell and I don't have any discharge or any other symptom. If you shoot up a little ACV up there it helps restore the ph balance but it's not permanent. I have a OBGYN appointment next week to discuss this smelly issue and see what options I have. Will update if I get a remedy! Good luck ladies!
What you eat to help exactly? I am so nervous to even have sex with my partner

I have had the Merina for a year. I also started out about three months into having it a could smell. Seemed as it was more towards my monthly even though I stopped having a period after 7 months. When I first got the smell of course want to the .Dr. And it was BV. Antibiotic and good to go. Of course it came back. So I researched more and came across a feed about ph imbalance. They recommended dough with peroxide when it happens and dilute with water. In use it when it comes. Once a day till the smell goes away. Usally the smell is gone soon after. Then I found this product on Amazon and it's the best thing ever and can't go with out it. It is the only thing that has really help. Its called PH -D boracic acid capsules you insert in your vagina. This is the only thing I've found to work. Hope this helps.
I have had the essure for 5 yrs and I'm on this site for the same reason. My opinion don't do it. More an more women are having complications with it. Some minor some severe. Look into a different option.
I have been taking luvena.. a pill that gets inserted in your vagina and also probiotics.. It seems to help.. also an occasional baking soda bath
I'm taking mines out, the order is like vomit all day long even using Ivory eating yogurt changing my diet and drinking water, not active no infection. After reading all this May 1st is out. I'll deal with irregular cycle any day then this odor
I have the Paragard OUR for over a year and now I experience this foul smelling odor at least once a month. I have never had a raw vaginal order and it's so strong I can smell it when I walk so I feel other people can smell it too! It has to be this foreign object in our bodies ladies...but wjats worse and order or another kid? Hmmm, I'm at a loss because I don't want either issue
I've had the copper IUD for two years, just the last 6 months I have a horrible odor, like rotting meat. I think it is the copper... but it only lasts for the last 2 days of my period, so I'll just deal I guess?
Copper IUD caused the same fishy smell for me!
Just got my Paraguard in three weeks ago... Went through a TERRIBLE period only to have to deal with disgusting NEVERENDING, foul-smelling discharge! Un-friggin-acceptable! I don't care WHAT remedies youguys have this thing is coming out with a vengeance. If I could snatch it out myself I would. I've never had a problem with my vaginal area smelling like this and I WONT start that ish now. Douching Everyday? PREPOSTEROUS! I called the Gyno Clinic and the receptionist had THE NERVE to tell me I needed a referral to have it removed! I didn't need a referral to get it! It's cool I'll come right on in and yall can 'referral' away cause in the end... this WILL come OUT. Idk... theres something REALLY wrong with this form of bc. Our bodies are clearly rejecting this thing ladies. Your body is speaking to you... Don't ignore it! I'm reading stories of bv and uti's and cysts. Its not worth it. Sure, yea, its birth control-cause by the time you decide to take it out it wouldve wreaked HAVOC on your uterus leaving you barren anyway! F*** THIS! THANK Youguys SO MUCH for telling your stories. Now I won't have to go through the YEARS of agony so many of you have faced. God Bless you all.
Thank you for letting me know the IUD may be the cause. Prevgyne is an over the counter treatment for BV. Works right away.
