This contraceptive could be a cause of your problem. What was your period like besides that vaginal clot? I have never heard of anything similar though but I think that the hormones could have caused it.
Artificial progesterone could have influenced your cervix to produce more white discharge and even poisoned your nerves, liver, uterus and cervix.
This is possible especially because more hormones are delivered to the blood stream by patch than by regular bc pills.
I am no doc and I am not applying that this was your case, but I know that these hormones can make a real mess and I would have it checked if I were you.
Let mo know what your gyno told you!
The result was negative but she said I still would have fertilised an egg and because I was on antibiotics at the time due to the flu, that it was it didn't carry. So it was obviously very early as it was a low reading.
It was scary, so anytime something unusual happens to your body, see your doctor immediatly!!
:-)
So when the results got back that it was *not* a miscarriage, despite the doctor's confidence at the time that it *was*, it was unsettling again! he apologised, which was really nice, and the name it [the tissue] was given was something like an:
"endometrial progestogen effect", which means some tissue the uterus produced, some extra lining, as a result of progesterone activity, too much activity... but I am not entirely clear now having read these blogs, whether a cyst, or something else might have occurred... as no ultrasound was deemed necessary. It may or may not have been anything to do with the artificial hormones [the pill] or my own, as i was only on it for 2 months and apparently this is a reported side effect for women who've been on the pill for a long time. So the cause was frustratingly, unknown.
It’s bad enough having monthly cramps that make me need time off work, but the pain I went through immediately before passing that tissue, was horrendous, I was going to ring an ambulance it was that bad. But once the worst was over, probably about 45 minutes, I was able to function again and was glad that I hadn’t called an ambulance! And now since then, I feel foolish for having thought it was a miscarriage- much like the lady above reported, that for 7 years she had thought that was the case [because both doctors concerned confirmed it!!!], in my case it was only 7 days, which was bad enough.
I guess the docs don’t know everything, they don’t have all your information- even if they do they don’t have time to read it all through and make all possible connections, and can’t do thorough checks on everyone, so it’s likely they can miss things, as what happened in that lady's case, and in my case, a premature [false positive] diagnosis of miscarriage... I had a pregnancy test 5 days later- but not at the time- which would have been helpful as the pregnancy hormones would have still been present if it had indeed been a miscarriage, which would have saved me the week of beating myself up. but after 5 days since a miscarriage, those hormones leave your body, so it being negative just let the doctor be assured I was not 'still' pregnant before issuing antibiotics to treat persistent symptoms that were in accordance with possibly having an infection. He gave me them as he couldn’t prove I had or did not have an infection, and apparently infections after miscarriage can be very serious if untreated, hence it is better to treat one that is not there than wait for one that is there in early stages to worsen.
So yes. I am still making sense of all the upheavals in attributing my 'symptoms' during the 9 weeks in the lead up to the tissue-passing, at first to 'period' pains, and much bigger boobs cause of the pill [it was a new pill-type for me]- then they were 'pregnancy' pains, and boobs were bigger for obvious reasons, and now, the pains are attributed to the growing of additional tissue in the uterus.... and the boobs, well, it must have been the pill! 'Marvelon' is its name for those who want to know! One more thing, my doc told me having had these results back from histopathology (sp?), that there was nothing to worry about and that it was just one of those things that nature throws at you. He had never come across this before- it is not a common thing to happen apparently, and he had never seen such tissue 'of that calibre' before.
I hope this can help in some way. Despite experiencing doctors’ fallible expertise in this case, I still recommend getting advice from the gp asap, and definitely taking it with you to have it tested, to put your mind at ease. In the meantime, just don’t go imagining or worrying before any test results are back like I did or you might grieve for a non-existent miscarriage for example, and feel all confused!
Anyway- it was hugely reassuring for me to read other women’s' accounts of such things, even if i found this particular blog after the test results, so I hope this can help someone too. All the best!
:)
I have had similar experiences! I went to the doctor the first time it happened and he told me it was not a miscarriage (which is what i believed it to be despite the extreme safe sex i have). He stated for a piece of tissue to be as large as it was it would have defining features of a fetus, or some recognizable characteristics. He also told me that it was probably a side effect of the pill (i was not able to bring the discharge with me). It is reassuring that there are more people who go through this the once in a blue moon it happens!!
i had a similar experience. A couple of years ago i had passed a large piece of flesh colored tissue 3 days after i started taking a progerterone pill called provera. I saved it and took it to my doc who said it was definately fetal tissue. He said i had miscarried. He sent the tissue to the lab but when the results came back they said it was endometrial tissue not fetal tissue.
I have experienced the same thing and I'm so pleased to hear that it is a common problem. Why don't the doctors know more about this? Now I have to just put up with it! I have had tests and nothing can be done.
