I’ve noticed grape fruit juice does a number in me.
You could be allergic to dairy
I know this is really old but , I've had this all my life too ... but I have found several things that help a lot !
I was talking to a doctor friend and he said an over reactive Vegas nerve can redirect the blood flow from the heart to the stomach and cause symptoms of a weakening heart .
I take a few supplements that maybe streingrhing to the heart . Try them and see what you think .
#1: Acetyl-L-Carnitine . Diesel exhaust used to also cause the phlegm . I'd take a couple 2 or 3 times a day when traveling.
#2: apple cider vinegar : I liked to mix it with Croix . Vinegar is more than just sour , it is a Short Chain Fatty Acid that easily absorbs through the small intestine and quickly supplies energy in a easily metabolized form. Sometimes this does more thsn A-L-C, or might work with the ALC directly feeding the heart energy.
#3: Ascorbal Palmatate . Vitamin C bound to fat. . Very helpful.
#4: N-Acetyl Cystine: not as helpful as others , but helps some.
Big greasy dinners are problematic.
Infrequent meals also can cause flairups in me .
So , little snacks in the day help my to not eat like a pig when it's dinner time :-)
I've awoke in the middle of the night with non stop fluid coughing . Take an ALC and in 15 to 20 min cleared up.
Hope this helps someone .

Thanks for your input. My wife, a nurse, has been telling me for 40 years that this might be a Vegas nerve issue. I have always ignored her. I would be interested in more specifics on your symptoms if that is ok with you. I would gladly share mine. Essentially, the symptoms of a weak heart for 40 years!
I am at my wit's end. I can eat or drink water or hot tea or coffee and within a minute I will start to feel mucus deep down my throat which I can't get out, only try to clear it so that it can be swallowed. And it's constant, never-ending and leaves me breathless. I don't get congested, just like an average person. I do get a bit of a dryness in the back of my throat that is annoying sometimes, and I get a tickle in my throat a few times a week and gets me into a coughing fit till it subsides. Because the mucus is not cleared, I am very uncomfortable around people, and then eventually it will hinder me from talking, as though I have laryngitis and the more I hold it in, the more heavier my chest feels. Very embarrassing at work.
This can happen even when not eating and attack me. I did everything possible these past few years, natural products, zantac, nasal sprays with cortisone, with just water, licorice.. Throat specialists don't seem so interested in my case, nor that this is ruining my life and they can't give me an answer as to why this is happening, only that I have postnasal drip and some acid, and tell me to not drink coffee and that this is a common problem. I did tests for my breathing and lungs, all are good, my stomach test is good, they found no allergies. The postnasal drip - okay I agree with because I told them I had it. But the acid I do not agree with because I have no symptoms of heartburn, it is rare. How did they deduce that?
I am beginning to think that it has something to do with saliva glands, maybe not enough is produced in the throat so the mucus just sits there and can't get swallowed. When I mentioned this to the doctors they said unlikely. I think these specialists just have no clue what is happening to people suffering like me. There is not enough studies done.
So I am left alone to fight this, and I am pretty sure I got it after a dreadful flu virus which left me coughing for months, which turned into this mess.
