Abdominal fat accumulation is a common result of an overtaxed fatty liver. If the liver cannot handle all the fat and sugar coming at it, your body is going to store it elsewhere, in the liver itself and in your body, especially in the abdomen. Without a gallbladder, some fats may pass through your system unabsorbed (as diarrhea). But more fat will get stored in your liver, and you will convert more sugars and starches to fat, as well.
Could be because of the recommended/needed high carb, low fat diet. Carbs can make you fat (metabolic syndrome, insulin resistance). Fat in food tends to make you fat adapted, where you burn body fat faster. (Ketogenic). Thats why atkins and paleo work so well as weight loss diets. I am about to have my gallbladder out soon. Hope I can avoid this whole low-fat, high carb thing myself. Sounds like a recipe for terrible health and a short life span.
The same thing happened to me when I had my gallbladder removed 9 months ago. Before I realized something was wrong I had gained 10 pounds in one month. I have been trying to lose it ever since. I eat less than I have in my entire life but cannot lose a pound. I am at a loss at what to do, I have never felt so helples in my life.
I know a woman who starting losing her hair because she never ate any fat at all. When she was told her hair was thinning b/c of the lack of fat, she started eating small amounts of healthy fat and gained her hair back. Be careful you don't go completely without fat for too long or you could go bald.
Hi Karen, thanks so much for the info,I am new to the site but am so distressed like everyone else on here, and I also am gaining weight and cannot lose an ounce, I would gain a pound then lose it, always very in control as I am a lifetime weight watcher and have tracked my food intake for many years..my gallbladder came out last July and if I could only go back and try to take care of it I would do so in a minute, but must move forward..have tried different enzymes but not the ones that you mentioned, I am looking into it, thank you so much for your help.
Hi, please help, I had purchased the Fat Sugar formula from Innate Sources and can no longer find it, can anyone out there help me? Nothing shows on their website.
So hopefully this will help with weight gain...when food intake stays pretty much thee same and weight keeps piling on it gets very depressing but thanks for th help.
I experienced the same thing. Gained 50 lbs in 14 yrs. Tried Weight Watchers and other diets and it would take up to 6 months just to lose 10lbs. I eat healthy and have always exercised 3 times a week since I was 20 yrs old. Thyroid tested normal and I have no other health issues. I drink a lot of water, no soda , hardly any fast food (maybe once or twice a year with my kids). Salads for lunch most of the week. I have no idea whats going on. Ive tried to increase exercise to 5 times a week around a busy kids schedule, but then I just get so tired. Its very frustrating, watching all the skinny women at work ordering cheesesteaks and soda at lunchtime and here I am with my salad , balsamic vinegar and a teaspoon of olive oil and fruit. The gallbladder problems happened right after my first pregnancy. They told me it was an increase in estrogen that caused the gall stones. If I could turn back the clock, I would just try to resolve the gallstone problem without removing the gallbladder.
Hi smorgas,
I know this topic is old but anyway.
I was so worried about weight gain after having my gall bladder out.I had already lost 10kgs before gallbladder surgery, from eating better and exercising. Before the sugery i was seaching every forum looking for answers if to gain or lost and even if I saw 9 weight loses and one gain, the gain would stick out and i was making my self more and more unhappy so I stopped searching and realise it wasn't going to make a difference because I was having it out regardless. The first 3 weeks I lost 7 kgs from not been able to eat much then my diet returned to normal and started doing a little exercise again and still managing to lost weight.,down 22kg. Everyone is different but the thing people don't remember is if they were not eating much before surgery like fatty food because of the pain then after surgery the can eat fatty food again then yes you probably will gain weight. maybe write down what you are eating for a week and if the weight gain continues talk with your doctor, all the best.

Good luck and would love to know how you did as I think the majority of people gain thru no fault of their own, food is being stored as fat plain and simple I am afraid.
Hi can you tell me how it is coming along now, mine came out July 2012 and it started about two months after that.
ok then that being the case what can emulsify fat from a nongallbladder person.
If you do not have to have it removed please do not. My life has changed I weight so much I had to buy all new clothes. I still keep gaining.they do not tell you this, like when you stop smoking you also gain about 20 lbs, Good luck
thx just the motivation I needed
So how do you feel now that you got your gallbladder out?
