Hi, I'm so glad I've found your post because, in similar built to you. I came off Sertraline cold turkey (I was on 200mg) and 5 weeks down the line I put on 10bs. My eating habits have not changed and I've been doing more exercise than normal but the weight won't budge. I even got worried I was pregnant as I went from a size 4/6 to an 8... A seven an 8 is starting to feel like a struggle to fit into.
so it looks like I e got a long way to go then to lose this weight

Hey love, trust me I know how tough n cruel these kids are nowadays. I just started taking Zoloft, my other meds didn't help my anxiety. As I read on here a lot of people experience gaining weight while taking Zoloft. I would talk to your doctor about taking you off it or lowering your dosage.i hope all works out for you hun. Stay strong
Thank you!! Your post gave me hope.
Hi depressedteen,
your post is from a year ago so I am not sure if you will even read this but I will try anyhow.
I have had a similar experience with Zoloft and it has been frustrating and upsetting to deal with the weight gain and the inability to lose it despite doing all the right things, i.e. exercise and eating well. I also went through high school and know how tough that experience can be.
That all said, your main priority ought to be taking care of yourself, meaning your mental health and nurturing healthy, solid friendships. The weight gain is not easy but address it from the perspective of doing what is right for you (and not as a response to the reaction from your school mates). Try to find a therapist or a peer group to support you especially if you decide to reduce your dosage or go off Zoloft altogether. You can also use the opportunity to join a sports team or fitness group which will help you to connect to people and boost your self-esteem Also, focus on the things you like to do. Develop yourself whether it's reading, painting, etc. Find your passion and nurture it. That will help you to be normal - which means just finding out who you are.

I switched from Fluoxetine (Prozac) to Sertraline (Zoloft) and the weight gain has been terrible. I have always been fairly small and my weight has never really fluctuated above or below 7lbs, even over periods of over indulgence i.e. Christmas and New Years. I've been taking Zoloft for two months and have gained 14lbs, which is horribly noticeable on me. Although unadvised, I will be stopping this medication now that I have realised it is behind the extra pounds. My depression stemmed from an eating disorder I had many years ago which I have since kicked, however, the extra weight is not helping my cause. I just hope I can lose it as quickly as I gained it!
Hello ~ I was on Zoloft for three years and gained 25 pounds. I stopped taking the medication six months ago cold turkey, that was no fun. But, now six months later the weight is coming off slowly. Still have about 20 pounds to go.
Good for you!
Wow this is me too. I been on 50 mg for a year and have put on 20 lbs!!
I've been on 200mg for about 2 years and went from 127 pounds then to 173. I'm tappering off to effexor and have already lost 5 pounds in a little over a week.
I have been on zoloft since September and was 125 and now 145 and haven't really changed my eating habits which werwnt bad at all plus working out... Just stopped zolofy 3 days ago so hopefully I'll see a change.
Omg I got micro_colitis from itvtoo!!! Its. HORRIBLE
Has your doctor mentioned Wellbutrin? It's supposed to help with weight gain. It's not your fault - it takes a while to find the right dosage and medicine. Don't let anyone else bring you down. You sound very articulate and intelligent. One day High School will just be a memory and you can get the job and life you want! Stay strong!!
I started Zolof after my husband passed away. I was 47 at that time and around 135lb and was really comfortable with my weight. I been on for 18 months and now pushing 185. My eating habits are good, I joined a gym and work out at least 3 time a week. Have not lost anything and now more depressed about that. Talking to my doctor to wean off. Hopefully I will start shedding these lbs soon
Yes it does!!!! I've been taking zoloft 50mg for almost a year and gained 30lbs. I haven't changed my diet or exercising routine at all. I've weighed 125-135lbs for the last 20 years. Now I'm 159-165lbs. I've stopped taking zoloft 3days ago. Hoping that that will help me get back to my normal weight.
Did you gain weight on the prozac? Also how are you doing with your weight loss?
