I am about 10 days post op TAH - Let me say - I LOVE IT!! I haven't felt this great in years!! My biggest problem is knowing when I'm "over doing it." I was completely fine after 3 days and back to work. No hormones - yet!! I am as gentle as a kitten. It reminds me of when I was on Lupron right before we started fertility treatment. I had endometriosis, and polycystic fibroids, all of my reproductive life (I am early 40's now). I finally had the surgery after 2 cysts burst in one month - OUCH!! I put off having the surgery for at least 5 years. What I thought were stomach aches are gone, loose bowels - gone and I don't feel worn out anymore. Before the Hysterectomy I always felt like I had a touch of the flu, always fighting something and never felt great. I feel stronger and have more energy than I have in 10 years.

I also googled hysterectomy's and read everything awful about this surgery and put it off for years despite my gyn/ob recommendations. Call me crazy, but I needed this surgery and wish I would have listened to my dr. earlier. Also, attitude is everything and with no hormones a pleasant attitude is easy to come by....lol

Thanks, the positive feedback helps so much!
I can not stand all the negative information on the whole process. Has had me shaking and in tears!

I am really happy to hear you are doing so well.

I have managed to work and be wife/mom with all the pain I have been in for so long, I am excited to not have the pain.

You described it perfectly when you say you always felt
you were fighting something off.

I plan to be back to work 2 weeks after my surgery. (fingers crossed)

Best continued recovery!!

My surgery was 8 weeks ago I had a subtotal hysterectomy..all is gone except my cervix. I'm feeling good...loving the fact that I don't get my dreadful period anymore!!! I have not noticed any weight gain in fact people are telling me I lost weight...I think because of the endometriosis I had along with all the bowel problems it has caused me I've lost a lot of the bloating that came along with it. I am not on any hormone therapy..I'm taking an omega 3 every other day...a women's one a day complete vitamen...and estrovan, which is a natural menopause supplement. On top of that I have been taking Soy milk in my cereal every morning and find that it really cuts down on my hot flashes. The only thing that I have noticed is I get tired and my legs and back get very achy. I think my body just has to get used to the change, I'm not complaining..I'm very grateful for how everything turned out and I thank God everyday for my health.

I am so glad to hear all the positive feedback on this subject. I'm going in to discuss it with my physician next week. I've been so unproductive and non creative from the miserable bleeding and dropping clots everywhere. My mother had a hysterectomy and she didn't gain weight, she too lost weight. So I'm hoping for a good outcome for me. Oftentimes we hear only negative things because these outcomes are the ones most talked about. When it's a positive outcome, we forget to announce it. Thanks for sharing encouraging words.

I had my uterus and ovaries removed on august 4 and have lost 15 pounds since the surgery. I felt better than i have in years right after the surgery. i lost 10 pounds right away and am still losing a couple of pounds a week. i eat pretty much the same as i did before. my appetite was back to normal 3 days post-op. i'm 40 and had endometriosis, and suffered for over ten years. during those 10 years, i put on unexplained weight. i ate right and exercised, but put on 30 pounds. i worked really hard to lose 10 right before the surgery and have lost 15, 5 more to go and i'm back to my old weight, and these pounds are just falling off. i wonder how much of the weight gain was related to the endo. anyone know/ have similar experience/ heard of this?

Hello everyone I just thought I would post this I just had a partial hysto on 10/25/2010
And I to had heard the horor stories ex. Weight gain, depression, hair loss pain so I was horrified.
This is my second week since I had it done and the only problem I have is gas pain and bowel pain. I have lost 14 ponds.
And I have so much energy now I would be lying if I said there was no pain but it was definately a plus because b4 I had nooooo energy
And always in pain I would miss 3 to 4 days of work a month so my finances also struggled but I'm so glad its done.. THANK YOU JESUS!!!

I had a total laparoscopic hysterectomy on November 1 primarily to remove a huge heavily calcified fibroid. So far, so good. The pain wasn't too bad in the hospital and was minimal once I was home. The biggest difference is that I am no longer "5 months pregnant" because of the fibroid. Previously, I was constantly in the bathroom because the fibroid was pressing on my bladder. Now things are much more normal. My appetite hasn't been as regular as before the surgery. For some reason, I am eating less and I am not craving food. Hope that continues! I haven't weighed myself but feel much lighter due to the absence of the huge fibroid. I put this off for a year because I had read horror stories on the Internet; so glad that I did it.

Hi all I am due to have the op in Jan 2011 and I am very nervous but its been great to read your views on this subject... I have been going through this for four years now constant bleeding clots and having to change clothes countless amounts of time during the day because of flooding. I have fibroids and my womb is the size of a three month pregnancy and I am usually slim but what a shock this has been... I feel so exhausted all of the time and very emotional indeed... I am putting a lot on this op improving my life and am in fear of the opposite being true...... I can not wait to start my life again and show my boys they still have a mum and not this crazy emotional mess I have become lol ... Anyway I will put info on here following my Op. Hopefully all positive!!! Wish me luck lol x Bye for now

I had a partial hysterectomy (still have my ovaries) due to a grapefruit-sized fibroid tumor. The surgery was on December 6, 2010. Finally relieved of worrying about bleeding through my pads and clothes and no more bloating! I've lost about 8 pounds so far. I am allergic to aspirin and ibuprofen so I was prescribed oxycontin for pain. It didn't do a lot for the pain so I stopped taking it. I'm just taking acetominophen and I'm tolerating the abdominal discomfort pretty well--it really only hurts when I sneeze, cough or laugh. Some issues with constipation but a mild laxative helps. The biggest issue for me is boredom; mentally, I am ready to go back to work but physically I still have several more weeks to go. If anybody wants to send a personal email to ask questions, please feel free to contact me.

I had a bilateral Opphorectomy on Nov 30 of 2010.. I was pretty sure my life was over. The thought of losing my ovaries and tubes, a scar from navel to pubic bone..All the dreadful stuff I'd read. The loss of my sex drive..yadda, yadda, yadda.

I feel better than I have in the last 10 years! I've lost 20lbs in 6 weeks..My skin looks great, my body feels great, my energy level has increased by leaps and bounds. It was the best thing I ever did!

I chose to go hormone free.. A few hot flashes..Cried a few times over sad commercials..Yelled a bit more than I should have..But it's really leveled off over 6 weeks. I made my husband promise to be honest (my mother, too) If my attitude changed to much into the grouch zone they had to tell me. I'd go with the hormone therapy.. But oddly enough, it's changed for the better. Probably just because I feel so much better!

We were just cleared for sex... I still have my drive. I was worried at first but it was like riding a bicycle..You just remember how to do it ;-) It's even better now that I don't have to worry about pain, the sex causing the bleeding to start again, or having to simply stop in the middle because of either..The only negitive is a decrease in lubrication..But hey, they sell lube in a tube..No worries! hehehe :-)

Life is good.. I'd do it again in a heartbeat..

i am 28 yrs. old and scheduled for surgery next week, was scared of pain and weight gain. but after reading all ur posts am not so scared any more. see i just watched my mother have one 3 weeks ago and she was in alot of pain the first few days (she was only in hospitol over night though before sent home). i am a single mother of a 5 and 3 year old and my worst fear is being with them after the surgery. i hope i am able to move around atleast sum without hurting myself. also i wanted to hear that i will lose weight and not gain, i have gained 40 pounds in the last year and was hoping it is related to my problems. am having a vaginal assisted removal of uterus and cervix...i pray that it doesnt hurt to bad, that i lose weight, and that my moods getter better quickly. thanks for all the positive comments!
