Like you I also have a masters degree in pharmaceutical microbiology. As a medical doctor, psychiatrists can prescribe pharmaceutical treatments as well. Now i have adult ADD and have many patients who have ADD and ADHD who are on both Adderall and Vyvanse and patients who do not respond to SSRI's well i use Adderall for depression because of the drugs ability to work by increasing the amount of dopamine and norepinephrine in between synapses in the brain. The drug is a potent dopamine reuptake inhibitor and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor. The neurotransmitters dopamine, noradrenaline and serotonin are released from nerve endings to act on other nerve cells. The transporters help suck up the neurotransmitters back into the cell that released them after they have served their purpose (and each individual neurotransmitter has its own transporter so it's taken back into the cell. So yes it does have an immense amount to do with serotonin, if there is more serotonin in the cell then there is more serotonin in the body and brain. So u are wrong and may need to take a 'rocket science' class or like you said "Simple as one class" Psyc 202- recreational drugs and their uses. They say it's never to late to learn.

Your information is WRONG... Like you i also have a master's degree in pharmaceutical science and i am a M.D. and have been for 26 years I have Adult ADD. I also have many patients who have ADD and ADHD who are on both Adderall and Vyvanse so i'm very familiar with Adderall. I use it with patients who do not respond well to SSRIs. Adderall is a combination drug composed of four different amphetamine salts. It increases the amount of dopamine and norepinephrine in between synapses in the brain because the drug is a potent dopamine reuptake inhibitor and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor. The neurotransmitters dopamine, noradrenaline and serotonin are released from nerve endings in the brain to act on other nerve cells. The transporters help suck up the neurotransmitters back into the cell that released them after they have served their purpose (and each individual neurotransmitter has its own transporter so serotonin is taken back into the cell via the serotonin transporter, etc... So yes it definitely has an immense amount to do with serotonin and if there's more serotonin in the cell then there's more in the brain and body. They say you learn something new everyday, so you are very wrong! Maybe you should take a "rocket science class" or even the "simple class Psyc 202 recreational drugs and their uses" Another thing please do some research before you go filling others heads with ur Ill knowledged thoughts.

"yep, speed makes me fall asleep" you're an completely ignorant. Speed and adderall are stimulants both designed to keep you AWAKE!!! That is why narcoleptics need adderall to stay awake.

People think Adderall is great and a miracle drug. You see everyone using it around you, especially if you're in college. Let me tell you first hand, there is nothing worse than coming down from adderall.
Often I would take the drug to study hours on end. I thought I needed it to do all this studying. Truth be told you don't need adderall. Many people think they have some kind of attention or focusing problem. The real issue is how hard are you trying NATURALLY to be a more focused attentive individual? To be this is very difficult and some see adder all as the easy way out.
However what happens when you've been taking adderall for years and even decades. You can't get proper sleep, your eating habits are poor, and your social behavior is bizarre.
The point I'm trying to make is adderall is not a solution for those with ADD, it is only a mask. Adderall can even cause suicidal tendencies. I wouldn't wish an adderall withdrawl or "come down" on my own worst enemy. So trust me the "WEIRD FEELING" that you're having is totally normal and is due to fact that this "miracle drug" is doing nothing but destroying peoples personalities.

I think your taking it in much too high of doses. I did the same thing for a while, on accident because my doctor switched the mg of the pill without me knowing, so i was taking about twice the recommended amount. For a while I was basically in heaven, cleaning entire house, completing whole essays in record time, and even increasing me stamina for longboarding i think. But then like you said, the side affects will kick in. Eating was really hard for me. I lost around 20-30 pounds in a little less then a month. I had dark wrings under my eyes, because id be having the comedown/withdrawal right around bedtime, and next morning was similar to a hangover. This became a horrible repetitive cycle, and actually ended up causing me to withdraw socially and struggle through finals. Living without food and sleep ruins your attitude, complexion, and life. Its very similar to cocaine (I think, I've never tried coke and i never will). But, when used with MUCH control and if u keep your schedule and eating habits the same, and NEEEEVEERR accidentally overdose(this will cause u to go through horrible withdrawals) it can really help out people who struggle with focusing problems.

That's weird... given doctors talk all the time about how they've seen adderall turn people's lives around. It doesn't mess people up; it makes them think faster, retain information better, gives them energy; it's been used for weight loss; it increases focus; there's a lot of good side effects to it. I personally have seen patients' grades jump four letters, no exaggeration; and I've seen it fix marriages and relationships. People excel at their jobs and at school. I agree that it can be very harmful to some people, but to say that "it is appropriate for VERY FEW people" seems to be a bit hyperbolic.

That's because not all people with narcolepsy, chronic fatigue, etc. have ADD/ADHD. If they do then they may have to go through different stimulants to find one that doesn't make them tired. People like me who have severe ADHD, (there are different levels of ADD/ADHD), take adderall and other stims and feel calm, focused, non-scatterbrained and just plain level. I also sleep so much better since being on adderall, (one of my worries was even more insomnia that I suffer from, but that turned out to not be the case. My brain has finally shut up). Someone with narcolepsy and no ADD/ADHD would react just like a non-ADD/ADHD person and get that awake feeling, maybe even "tweeked" from stimulants. That's why stimulants calm some people down and jack others up.

Very few people "Fall Asleep" easily from Adderall. That is not a typical reaction to that medication at all! It's a stimulant, why would it?

I can tell you something worse than coming down from adderall. Oxycontin withdrawal. I absolutely would not wish that upon ANYONE! Stay away from drugs people! Seriously

I have Hyersomnia and they have me taking 20mg of Ritalin in the morning and 10mg in the afternoon because I tend to want to sleep all the time. Sometimes I take it and get very jumpy and shakey but at least stay awake to so I can go to my grandson"s games without wanting to fall asleep. I don"t however like these feelings at times. I feel torn between taking then or just fighting this sleep disorder,I'm not sure what to do. And by the way I"m not an addict I Hate having to take medication but I have alot of different medical problems that cause me to have to take several different medications and I NEVER TOUCH ANY TYPE OF ACHOLE. THANKS FOR LISTENING.

You might want to retake a few classes...higher noradrenalin will typically increase anxiety, not increase it.
