Studies only "suggest" birth defects, and pot "may" cause birth defects. There is no stone cold proof other than real life scenarios. I have known dozens of women that smoke during pregnancy; Jamaican, haitian, spanish, american, some you wouldn't even suspect since society is so quick to stereotype. Not ONE of their children came out with any trace of defects, mental or learning disabilities, etc. The only thing you have to worry about is if it is illegal in your state. Then Child Protective Services might step in just for that reason. However, there are so many cases of drug use much more critical such as opiates, barbiturates, etc that do have proof of these such effects that they are not going to do much more than check out the home situation and safety of the child in your home for marijuana users. Considering all the children in the foster care system and the lack of adequate foster parents, they usually consider marijuana users a small fish. It is a little annoying that half of these people believe everything they read, but have no real life proof or scenarios to truly back that up. Studies show, maybe, could be, possibly, but NO definite. Cigarettes, yes, there has been reports of low birth weight, etc. And alcohol has shown proof of fetal alcohol syndrome. But since these things are legal, CPS doesn't get involved in these cases.

And Your proof this is not a heredity issue? People are born epileptic everyday. I know atleast ten. Not one of their parents smokes or did during the pregnancy. Without proof or even a clue, You are just spreading propaganda. Pure 100% grade A BS.

Love this post. This to Me is a very well informed, Unbiased opinion. I do happen to agree with You, But I like because it actually had some concrete information & not just someone's unfounded ideals. When You read about people saying that marijuana is a detrimental drug & that it reckless, Irresponsible to use whether pregnant or not. That people who smoke are unable to perform at a high level or focus? These people who say these things 99 times out of 100 have very little or no 1st hand experience with the subject matter. Point being would You take advise from someone who has no experience on the matter. Of course not.

hi I am here only because when my son was born 5 weeks ago the urine screen they gave me at the hospital was a presumptive positive for thc . my sons results were negative across the panel there was no second test preformed on the sample I gave but cps still took both of my kids extreme measures I would say there has never been any justifying tearing families apart in the pretense of keeping them from drugs.. not about protecting anyone the civil suit that I will follow this nightmare with will keep me fat and happy until I am old and wrinkled they have violated every one of my rights but at this time I am dying inside .....did I mention I was not even smoking weed!!!!

I do not believe the comment on seizures is true. My brother and his wife are straight edge-.meaning they do not do drugs or drink alcohol. Cigarettes either. Their child still is diagnosed with epilepsy and has uncontrollable seizures.
