Hi to everyone with Salty mouths!
I can't believe I found this site. I've been all over the Internet trying to figure out what has happened to me. My mouth is soooo salty. I drink tons of water and never before has it tasted like heavy salt water. Everything I eat is salty. I've lost my taste buds and my appetite for eating (which for me is a good thing since I have alot of weight to lose). It is very frustrating to have this taste in my mouth. I drink only a couple cups of coffee a day, lots of water all day and I don't smoke. The doctors don't know what is causing it. People have talked about a metallic taste - mine is not that way - salty, very salty, is the only way to describe my mouth. If anyone has an update on this or if there is a doctor or nurse reading this, please help all of us who have posted.
Thank you,

Thank you,
i hope this finds the right threat. about a month ago, all of a sudden when eating cookies, i had the worst salty taste in my mouth. everything tasted like salt...mints, cereal, tea, water, everything. i too am going crazy and canceled an appointment with an ent because of all the posts i'm reading. no one seems to be getting help. i am at my wits end. i think maybe it is gerd...or acid reflux, though i don't have obvious symptoms of that. occasionally it will go away for a day (or at least lessen) and then comes back like crazy. if anyone knows anything or just wants to talk about it..please write. people who don't have this think it is funny. i'm not laughing.
I have lived with this for about a month now. It occured once before and I was using some eye drops that had been prescribed to me. I got the doctoer to change the script and the problem disappeared. This time I am not using any eye drops but I am on some new medications for GI problems. I've had the script changed but no help yet. I agree with the last poster- it may sound amusing to someone not suffering from this malady but if you are you find no humor in it whatsoever.
I think it's dehydration. When I drink a lot of water, it goes away! :-D
what have you heard? and i hope i can find this site again. i am going crazy with the salt taste. it is really bad today. i too thought it might be thrush, but i know it really isn't. let me know!
has anyone gotten any help for this? i am the one who posted about the cookies tasting like salt. this has gone on for 5 weeks now.sometimes i think it is an allergy. i am not dehydrated, not a smoker, only a moderate tea drinker, a small glass of red wine and no meds. i don't want to put myself thru a lot of invasive testing, especially after seeing that no one seems to be able to get any help adn that most doctors don't know what is happening and have never heard of it. the best advice i got was from the post on this site about nerve damage. that sounds possible...this just came up boom...and i've been stuck with it since. hope this pastes...i can never remember my password etc.
I too am expireancing the salt tast were are you from I am in southern UT it has ben only a week or so for me I dont get it. Has it stoped for you ?
Hi:
I too, have a salty taste in my mouth. I have had a dry mouth problem for 6 months now and also a blocked salivary gland which cleared up. The salty taste is still there. My physical and blood work showed nothing. However, I concluded that the salty taste is a direct result of dry mouth and here's why: When I suck on lemon drops it helps produce more saliva and then the salty taste goes away. As long as I suck on the candies every couple of hours, it seems to help. I think Lemonhead little candies are the best. Only 10 calories each and they are a nice small size. I keep the candy in the sides of my mouth and I feel MUCH better. Hope this helps others.

Me too I am tasting salt all the time now for 4 days!!! I am a nursing student and have research like crazy and come up with nothing. I have tried everything to mask the taste: Gum, candy, mints, nothing works. I even drink about 3 Litres of water a day, and no coffee, tea or pop.
Is there anyone out there who is having the salty mouth syndrome? Let's see what we have in common. I take vitamins and supplements from GNC, I also take prescription testosterone, and am on a high protein diet. Low sodium. Started eating blueberries and strawberries. Anybody?
I have been having this for about a week, now. I started taking birth control pills about 3 weeks ago, and also had to increase my thyroid medication (after being on the same dose for 3 years) about a week ago. I wondered if either of those had anything to do with it. I did find out that the birth control pills caused me to need more thyroid medication, though. At least that is one mystery solved.
I wonder if it a coincidence, that you started taking birth control pills, which I am sure affects your estrogen, which in turn caused salty mouth. I am taking prescription testosterone, and now I have slaty mouth. Could it be something related to this. I am tired of feeling like I just yawned underwater at the ocean. Next time I make love to my wife I am going to ask her if my mouth tastes salty.
I also have the salty mouth thing and it is driving me crazy. My gums are even beginning to burn and hurt....the tip of my tongue is tender and sore....my lips are so dry and burn all of the time. I have used every lip balm on the market, vaseline, neosporin and anything I can think of on my lips. (Nothing helps). My primary care physician has done blood work I have even gone to a cancer clinic andhad extensive blood work....nothing was been found. I was taking Niaspan (for high cholesterol) but stopped because it was causing burning, severe flushing, and even rashes on my body that itched like crazy. I haven't taken Niaspan for about 6 weeks but the problem salty taste in my mouth continues to worsen. The only thing that seems to give even a little relief is eating sugar free pop cycles. Has any one got any suggestions? Please help. :-(
I noticed the salty taste in my mouth about a week ago; it was constant and was like there was spoonful of salt sitting on the back of my tongue. The tip of my tongue, my lips, gums, etc. we NOT affected.
I started taking fish oil capsules (pills) about 2 weeks ago. I stopped 2 days ago. The salty taste seems to be receding ...
I'm extremely well hydrated; I drink about 4liters/1 gallon of water a day; minimal tea/coffee, don't smoke and take no meds.
I won't take any more fish oil pills. If the salty taste starts coming back, I'll repost, otherwise I won't ... it was the fish oil pills...
